Luis Miguel's album discography

[edit]

@Franlm14: Hey Frank! Since you expressed interest, I went ahead and copied and pasted from the article to here. I'll work on the prose, probably next week since my time on Wikipedia is only limited to my time to my local library as I don't have Internet in the house at the moment. Erick (talk) 23:32, 16 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

No problem. Anything you need just tell me. Franlm14 (talk) 23:54, 16 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Awesome! And feel free to make changes to this list as well in the meantime like you did on the main article. Erick (talk) 00:33, 17 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Do you think "Tambien Es Rock" is a EP? has 7 songs and last 26:23 Franlm14 (talk) 02:40, 17 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
To be fair, I don't have a source that either states it's an album or an EP. From what I recall, 26 minutes isn't long enough to consider it an album. The RIAA would consider it an EP under their definition since it's less than 30 minutes long. That record almost never appears on the list of Luis Miguel's album list though that could also be because of how unknown it is. So basically, I consider it an EP as per the RIAA'ss definition, but if sources says it's an album that's fine. Basically, just go whatever what reliable sources say. Erick (talk) 02:47, 17 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know what to do with the EMI compilations there are 30 at least, most of them irrelevant and repetitive. We should add everything? Franlm14 (talk) 21:08, 17 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm, that's actually a good question. Maybe we should just list the ones that would fall under WP:NALBUMS, so that would be the one that either ranked on a music chart or received a certification. @AJona1992:, since you worked on the Selena albums discography, what do you suggest? Erick (talk) 16:41, 18 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
It was suggested by a user on the talk page that any albums listed by AllMusic should be included. WP:NALBUMS doesn't really apply to discographies, if an album did not chart nor received any certifications, it is still an album that is part of the singer's discography, it is just mandatory to find a RS to prove its existence in lieu of RS of charting titles. Like Luis Miguel, there's a 21 Black Jack of Selena, but since it's not listed on AllMusic it wasn't suggested to be added. I would go with AllMusic than Discogs, since AllMusic is not user-generated content. – jona 18:06, 18 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
In spotify Spain there is only four EMI compilations: "El Idolo De Mexico (1992)", "Romantico Desde Siempre (1994)", "Latin Classics (2002)" and "La Miel De Mis Primeros Éxitos (2010)". I don't know if that matters. On the other hand, "También Es Rock" they classify it as an album, not as an EP. Franlm14 (talk) 18:06, 18 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
All right, I have no objections to listing También es rock under the album section. Now I won't be able to make major edits until maybe Monday or Tuesday next week, but I can give some pointers in the meantime. For example, for a certifications use the abbreviations of the music organization not the country it came from. I'll go with Jona's suggestion, so just use AllMusic as a source for the compilation albums that didn't chart or received a certification. For instance, use RIAA, not US. AMPROFON instead of Mexico. Erick (talk) 19:54, 18 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
No problem! but allmusic does not have all albums, for example "También Es Rock" or "Noi Ragazzi Di Oggi" the album that peak 7 in the italian charts, and only this version includes the song "Il Cielo". Franlm14 (talk) 20:50, 18 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
also this fully portuguese albums Meu Sonho Perdido, Decide Amor Franlm14 (talk) 21:01, 18 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
So while discogs isn't a reliable source and should not be used, you can source the metadata from the website. What I mean by that is you can source album booklets or front/back covers like I did on List of songs recorded by Luis Miguel for those albums. Erick (talk) 22:21, 18 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I found an official box set with his 4 pop albums (Busca Una Mujer, 20 Años, Aries, Nada Es Igual) source source 2 but none reliable source. Franlm14 (talk) 23:39, 22 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

(ec) I think you should add all albums listed on AllMusic and albums that charted that are not mentioned. AllMusic doesn't provide non-US releases. Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, and Patsy Cline, all have a huge number of releases that I am pretty sure number the hundreds, so I think you should add what you believe satisfies his scope of work. – jona 22:27, 18 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the info! Regards Franlm14 (talk) 02:09, 19 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Franlm14: I didn't get much time to work on the article, which is frustrating. 😕 The box sets that you mentioned, so you can find like an ID catalog that's usually on the side or behind the box. Also, could you do me another favor and add sources to the references all the albums? You can just use Allmusic for the majority of them. And if you do, place on music under publisher not work because Allmusic should not be italicized. Erick (talk) 00:57, 23 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Don't worry! I'll do it right now! I can't see the ID in those pictures for the box set, i'm afraid we can't add that by the moment. Romance (Doble) is a box set? includes 2 CD's Romance & Segundo Romance, and I think was certified 2x platinum in Spain according with Salaverri's book. Franlm14 (talk) 02:13, 23 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Another question jeje. What's the difference between a CD single and an EP? for example No Se Tú Franlm14 (talk) 02:52, 23 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Basically, it's a CD single because none of the songs are new and because the CD was sent to radio stations in the territory it was released in. Erick (talk) 22:17, 24 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Franlm14: Here's a summary of what I did today: I'm almost done with the prose, I just need to add the final studio albums in the summary (I'll take care of that part). I put "No culples a la noche" as its own remix section per Rihanna albums discography (another featured list article), and added reissues of "Mexico en la piel" and "Complices" as its own section. That's all I can do until next week. So in the mean time, look at the featured list music section on the discographies for more ideas on how to make this list become one too. I'll stick around but not do major editing until then. Erick (talk) 23:39, 24 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

You did a great job so far. Let's see what more can I do. By the way, we can add The Romance 20th Anniversary Box as a reissue or box set? @Magiciandude:Franlm14 (talk) 00:12, 25 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! And thank you for adding the special edition of Luis Miguel's 2010 album! Honestly, I thought the 20th anniversary would go under box set at first but if you look at the article for reissue specifically this section, albums can be re-released for special anniversary edition. So I think it's fine to put the 20th anniversary of Romance on the reissue section. Erick (talk) 00:31, 25 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Magiciandude: Luis Miguel es el artista que más ha difundido el bolero alrededor del mundo, con ventas que superan las 20 millones de unidades (solamente de sus producciones dedicadas al bolero) en países tan diversos como: Japón, Corea, Singapur, Indonesia, Australia, Alemania, Holanda, Finlandia, Bélgica, República Checa, entre muchos otros. ref ref2 ref3 ref4 there is more sources with this text, we can add this if you want.

@Franlm14: Since none of those countries are listed on the albums chart, they sentence wouldn't make since here, it would belong on the artist main page. Anyhow, the prose is done, but I have some grievances I want to point out: First, the Argentine charts in the 80s were not published by CAPIF, but rather, an Argentine magazine by the name of Prensario which reported to Cashbox, this should be mentioned in the note section. Use Ricardo Arjona discography to revamp the notes section for the charts for Argentina, Chile, Mexico, and Spain. Also, the countries should be uniformed, meaning that Portugal and Italy should not be listed as they only appear on the compilation albums and no where else and it's just for one album, making their inclusions here unnecessary. I also made notes of the different versions of the studio albums instead of putting them on compilation albums since they're not compilation, but just a different version. Erick (talk) 23:27, 29 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Ok! maybe the 20 million copies with all his bolero albums could be interesting idk. Canta in Italiano, Amandote a la italiana and Collezione Privata should be removed also? it's the same album from Palabra de Honor without the song "Il Cielo". Franlm14 (talk) 23:39, 29 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, I think the boleros part is a good idea. Wasn't one of the Italian albums actually released as a compilation album though? I think we can keep one of them as a compilation album. Erick (talk) 23:50, 29 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Noi Ragazzi Di Oggi, was released only in Italy (this one includes "Il Cielo"). The Mexican 1985 Release is Canta In Italiano (this one includes Tu Di Cuore Nonne Hai). then 2 re-realeases of Canta In Italiano: Collezione Privata (1992-1993) and Amandote a la italiana (2002, this one has the same songs but the order is changed) Franlm14 (talk) 23:57, 29 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
thanks for making those changes. And you know, working on this list has actually motivated me to work on Luis Miguel's albums again particularly the albums he released after Grandes éxitos. I say this, even though I don't like those albums very much. Lol Erick (talk) 01:55, 1 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks to you! you have done so much for the Luis Miguel community and as a fan I'm very pleased for that. Cómplices in my opinion is underrated (it's a classic ballads album, way similar to "Un Hombre Solo" by Julio Iglesias), "Se Amaban" and "Te Desean" are superb! Franlm14 (talk) 02:37, 1 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Funny enough, that's the album I want to work on next. I'm skipping his Christmas album and won't work on Navidades until this fall. Too early for Christmas music, know what I mean? Erick (talk) 03:43, 1 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Props to you! Navidades is great also, I like the big band sound. I play it even on summer sometimes ja ja. Franlm14 (talk) 04:33, 1 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
