File source problem with File:Penny Healey.jpg

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Penny Healey.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.

If the necessary information is not added within the next seven days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Unhelpful warning messages

[edit]

I completely agree with you about editors reverting your edits and giving you warning messages, but not making any attempt to explain why they disagree with your editing. That is, unfortunately, very common, and at least partly due to editors just taking the easy way of posting a standard prewritten templated warning message, rather than bothering to put in the effort it takes to write an individual message explaining what their concerns are. I have no idea what the objection is to adding the word "professional" to articles about professional sports people; there may or may not be a good reason. JBW (talk) 14:41, 16 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

if i had to guess i would say that professional constitutes often receiving payment and sponsorship for performance.
that's why we have to be completly sure that the athlete receives payment and is sponsored before adding the professional tag, and therefore having a reliable source for that info. Mackanbiljard (talk) 15:24, 16 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The image's metadata includes a link to the licensing terms at Getty Images. None of the types of license listed there gives such broad reuse as you have claimed; the closest is the "Royalty free" license, but even that has numerous restrictions which make it incompatible both with the statement made by you and with Wikipedia's licensing terms. A small and far from complete selection of such restrictions is the following: "You may not use content in any way that allows others to download, extract or redistribute content as a standalone file (meaning just the content file itself, separate from the project or end use)." -- "The rights granted to you are non-transferable and non-sublicensable, meaning that you cannot transfer or sublicense them to anyone else." -- "This agreement is personal to you and is not assignable by you without Getty Images’ prior written consent." -- "You may not use content in a pornographic ... manner", contrasting both with Wikipedia's licensing and with your statement, both of which permit use for any purpose. any help with the copyright problem would be much appreciated as im quite new to editing :) Mackanbiljard (talk) 15:19, 16 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I will try to remember to get back to you on this when I have time, which right now I don't. If you haven't heard from me again within 24 hours then please feel welcome to remind me. JBW (talk) 15:29, 16 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Will do, cheers! Mackanbiljard (talk) 15:34, 16 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited 2023 World Athletics Rankings, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Jessie Knight. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 06:02, 6 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding this edit, Wikipedia does not capitalize random words like "professional".  — SMcCandlish ¢ 😼  03:31, 31 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

badminton player ranking date

[edit]

fyi, date for the newest bwf ranking is 23 April 2024, not 16 April 2024. thanks Stvbastian (talk) 16:04, 26 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The rankings have not changed from the 16th to 23rd,
the players gained some ranks on the 16th, but the rankings on the 23rd are the same as they were on the 16th
I added the earliest date of the new rankings which is the 16th of April
Since the rankings are unchanged from the 16th to the 23rd i see no reason to add the 23rd as the latest date
Hope that clears up any misunderstanding, and please shoot me a message if i understood you wrong
Kind regards. Mackanbiljard (talk) 16:16, 26 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
no, don't use your personal preference in Wikipedia. Every statement tht u add or changed should be based on sources. In here clearly said that the newest ranking is 23 April. Stvbastian (talk) 02:09, 27 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I fail understand why you accuse me of personal preferences,
when i clearly posted links to the badminton World Federation site
The rankings were unchanged between the 16th and 23rd, how can that be personal preference when i showed you the official links!?
If you want the rankings to be set to the current date regardless, you could have said so in a way that did not come of as arrogant and rude...
Especially since my first response to you was nothing but kind and friendly
Oh and maybe update the date on the official wikipedia page for the rankings
It still says the 16th not the 23rd
If you just had updated the date on the official wikipedia page for the rankings, this dispute could have been avoided
And i would not have gotten the wrong impression of the date
Mackanbiljard (talk) 19:16, 27 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
When did u show me the official link? Because, during this discussion, you never provided a referral link for me. Fyi, BWF site always update the ranking every Tuesday. Example, per your edits here --> Gregoria Mariska Tunjung in 26 April 2024, of course the date should be 23 April 2024, not 16 April 2024. I don't mean to be arrogant or rude, im just trying to help you so that your edits gettin better. And after i saw your edit history (ex: [1]), i think you already understand what I mean. Thank You Stvbastian (talk) 01:33, 30 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No worries Stvbastian i'm pretty sure i posted a reference link in my response to you
But no matter
I know you are just trying to be help me so that my edits get better,
and i apologize for any harsh words towards you.
No harm done, wish you all the best Mackanbiljard (talk) 10:40, 30 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
