We also need to add an image of an otter to the right side of the banner, I'm not sure how though.--MahaPanta (talk) 21:17, 23 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Done. :) Bob the Wikipedian (talkcontribs) 22:48, 23 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Census

[edit]

How did you do the Dragon census? --MahaPanta (talk) 14:51, 25 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Glad you asked. :) It's a common question that seems to come up each time I do it, but that's okay, since the process evolves each time.
Here is the method, step by step, that I used for the June 2009 census:
  1. Navigate to "What links here" for Wikipedia:WikiDragon
  2. Filter the results for the User namespace only
  3. Display 500 results at once
  4. Copy the results into Excel
  5. Using the Replace All command, reformat each result so it includes only User:Username, where Username is the username
  6. Navigate to "What links here" for the image used in the topicon, using the same filter and display
  7. For each name on the Excel spreadsheet that also appears in the "What links here" for the topicon's image, add a yellow highlight to column A of that row
  8. Ditto using the image from the large userbox, column B, and olive green
  9. Ditto using the image from the small userbox, column C, and a bolder shade of green
  10. For all usernames in the Excel spreadsheet without a highlight in its row, navigate to that user's userpage
  11. Locate on the userpage the link to Wikipedia:WikiDragon
  12. If the user says they are a WikiDragon (even if they claim to be other WikiFauna as well), consider themselves a WikiDragon, or say they fit the WikiDragon description, highlight the cell in column D with blue. If the user says they are not a WikiDragon, wish they were a WikiDragon, aspire to become a WikiDragon, enjoy helping out with the WikiDragon page, creating the WikiDragon page, helping WikiDragons, encouraging WikiDragons, hunting WikiDragons, hating WikiDragons, loving WikiDragons, or lists the WikiFauna, or some other description that doesn't fit the first two categories, add a gray highlight to the username's row in the spreadsheet, but do not remove the name.
  13. Count the gray highlights and subtract them from the total
  14. Format the results so they are presentable, and add statistics where appropriate
  15. Save the spreadsheet for future reference in improving the research method
Yup. If the new orange userbox (under review at Wikipedia talk:WikiDragon) is adopted, perhaps we can convince everyone to migrate to the new one, which will simplify the census to a single image. Bob the Wikipedian (talkcontribs) 16:56, 25 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Why do I have two blank boxes?--MahaPanta (talk) 17:29, 25 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I assume you're referring to the spreadsheet I sent you for the June census. The first box (dark green) represents the small userbox. You don't have one, so it's not shaded. The second (light green) represents the large userbox, which you display very proudly on your userpage. The third (yellow), the topicon, which is at the top of your userpage. The fourth (blue) is reserved for users who do not have the userboxes or topicon. You have them, so your fourth box gets to be blank. The final box (varying color) is for statistical purposes only. It's striped yellow and light green, showing that you use the large userbox and the topicon. You'll find statistics at the bottom of the spreadsheet that are color-coded-- that should help you interpret the colors used throughout the sheet. For some reason I thought each row was a different month. I need to get more rest. I spent too much time on the MJ page yesterday. Some Admins panicked and fully protected the page, so everyone posted their edits on the talk page. That both increased vandalism and made it easier for vandals, plus some users that normally don't vandalise started to out of frustration of not being able to edit the article. Although I reverted a lot of vandalism, even more had to be manually edited out because of the edit conflicts.--MahaPanta (talk) 21:29, 26 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Lol...I was wondering how you misread it! Yes, sleep is good. I'm on my way there now. Bob the Wikipedian (talkcontribs) 07:06, 28 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

July 09

[edit]

What do you want to do now?--MahaPanta (talk) 02:51, 29 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, I'm working on a couple of off-Wiki projects at the moment involving lots of dinosaur and fossil research. Therefore, consider me on a semi-extended WikiBreak. What are you up to right now? Bob the Wikipedian (talkcontribs) 22:54, 29 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Taking classes at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College, picked up a new game system, a new book, and some other things. I've also started a new article at User:MahaPanta/William_Darrell_Mays_III where I'm working on it till I can get it moved to "article space". Now let's do whatever it is need to do to improve this cave.--MahaPanta (talk) 20:44, 5 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I don't have any ideas at the moment. However, I'm thinking about hotlinking my projects section from my user page. I think I'll do that. It would mean I wouldn't have to update this page and that one each time. :) Bob the Wikipedian (talkcontribs) 17:06, 6 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds good to me. I'm still having trouble with that image. Check my talk page for more info.--MahaPanta (talk) 17:49, 6 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
You won't like my response to your matter...but I'm doing my best to help you.
I'm thinking the page could use some HTML. I'm not sure yet what would look good, though. I'll think about it. Bob the Wikipedian (talkcontribs) 19:10, 6 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

AAAAAAAAHHH!!!!! WHERE IS EVERYONE?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

[edit]

AAAAAAAAHHH!!!!! WHERE IS EVERYONE?!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There's practically NO WIKIDRAGONS/OTTERS AT ALL!!! This is serious! The WikiDragons/Otters are probably even more endangered than the WikiKraken!!! What are we going to do about this?!!!--Jakkinx (talk) 19:13, 21 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Come to think about it, there are far to many new WikiKrakens.-- Thus Spake Lee Tru. 16:09, 29 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
We're here, we're just busy flying around taking care of things.--Macha Panta (talk) 16:48, 29 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Are there any ISO wikidragons?

[edit]

I would like to know.

Warmest Regards, :)--thecurran let it off your chest 05:12, 26 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Care to clarify? Bob the Wikipedian (talkcontribs) 02:55, 29 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

No Otters!

[edit]

There are absolutely no registered WikiOtters! Talk about extinction! We should do something...--Jakkinx Talk to me! 07:07, 17 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Heh...check out the survey from this past season... they've been reevaluated as "Critically Endangered (Possibly Extinct)". Bob the WikipediaN (talkcontribs) 18:23, 21 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

New WikiDragon topicon

[edit]

Just FYI: I created a new WikiDragon topicon at Template:WikiDragon. It uses the parameter "|icon_nr=" for easier alignment and gets rid of the deprecated Template:click. Feel free to tweak it. I couldn't replace the existing code because it uses {{topicon}}, which cannot be used in this wikispace. If I'm wrong and it can be used (on our personal pages only), feel free to update the code and delete my template. – VisionHolder « talk » 02:18, 5 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The fix seems to be a very nice one; thanks! Bob the WikipediaN (talkcontribs) 20:17, 28 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello

[edit]

Hello, I am a new WikiDragon. I am not a new Wikipedia user, but recently I got into the habit of becoming a WikiDragon. When I was a younger user, I had absolutely no idea what I was doing, but now I believe that I can handle frequent, long edits. I've already added an article on the Aboriginal mythological character Bluetongue Lizard. It still needs to be reviewed, however, to be fully approved. My forte is mythology, so if any articles on that subject that you know of need help, send them to me! Pumagirl7 Leave a message 22:56, 27 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Do you know anything about the Lyngbakr, an island-sized fish of Norse lore? Currently the title redirects to the Greek parallel. Bob the WikipediaN (talkcontribs) 20:19, 28 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Unforunately, I can't remember anything, and everywhere I've looked it redirects to kraken with maybe a sentence or so about how it takes the name lyngbakr in Norse mythology. Pumagirl7 Leave a message 12:27, 29 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, it's rather unfortunate that the entire Internet reposts Wikipedia elsewhere, as it makes it more difficult to find information other than that rather useless sentence. I found something the other day about it, but I'll need to search for it again when I get a moment. Bob the WikipediaN (talkcontribs) 04:17, 30 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Stubs?

[edit]

I've been overwhelmed by pretty much everything recently, but I feel like I haven't done anything here. I don't have the time to write those two articles on my to-do list, so if anybody has any mythology or animal-themed stubs they've noticed, let me know so I can actually feel like I'm doing something. Census

[edit]

I'm thinking 6 months is too frequent...anyone opposed to doing it annually instead? Bob the WikipediaN (talkcontribs) 01:57, 11 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Not I. Those six months seem to fly by. And if we're talking about the census, I think it has to be fixed, because it's getting mixed up. If you try to add your name at the bottom, it goes in some completely different place. Brambleberry, RiverClan Medicine Cat VisitFollow 15:55, 11 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Argh, never mind, it's been fixed. Brambleberry, RiverClan Medicine Cat VisitFollow 15:56, 11 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Another Census?

[edit]

Feel like you're the last of a dying race? How about another census? Tyrone Madera (talk) 03:01, 21 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Sure, you can count me in. --Macha Panta (talk) 03:15, 21 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Awesome! (I have no idea how to do the census.) Tyrone Madera (talk) 06:36, 21 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I am on board. Can I just do it now? TigerScientist Chat > contribs 23:42, 2 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
TigerScientist, by all means. Tyrone Madera (talk) 04:37, 3 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

WikiDodos or WikiGryphons

[edit]

I think they are good complementary species that are friendly. I think we should add them to the census. TigerScientist Chat > contribs 01:00, 3 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
