February 2008

[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia, and thank you for your contributions, including your edits to The Black Album (Prince album). However, please be aware of Wikipedia's policy that biographical information about living persons must not be libelous. Any controversial statements about a living person added to an article, or any other Wikipedia page, must include proper sources. See Talk:The Black Album (Prince album)#WP:BLP violations, where policy-violating material about Prince's alleged drug use (and claims that may or may not have been made to that effect by bandmates and bodyguards) is open for discussion. Thanks! —mjb (talk) 03:11, 6 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Decade (unreleased album)

[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Decade (unreleased album), suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you agree with the deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please add {{db-author}} to the top of Decade (unreleased album). HEY

[edit]

Hey, as you are a member of the Michael Jackson wikiproject I have some very important news for you. I will be nominating the Michael Jackson article for FA shortly and the Thriller album article is currently on the nomination list for GA. We need your help with both articles....

The Michael Jackson artice is currently on a peer review (which you can see on the articles talk page). It also really needs its references formatted correctly.

The Thriller album is going to be reviewed in the next couple of DAYS its sources need formatting.

These are the most important articles on michael jackson here at wiki, 2008 has been an excellent year for michael jackson, lets make it a good year for him here at wikipedia too. If these articles get a GA or FA statues it could make news outside of the wiki world. What a great way to celebrate the 25th year of MJ being the KING OF POP.

Please help with the sources of both these articles and in any other way you can. If you know any other people at wiki that might want to get involved let them know.Realist2 (talk) 22:32, 4 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Craig book

[edit]

Please don't use that book anymore on wikipedia, it is against policy on reliable sources. It is an online book with online publisher, when I got the Michael Jackson article featured I had to remove all his sources. You used it a while back on another article but I didn't remove it. Besides, that part was already sourced so it doesn't matter. — Realist2 21:35, 13 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No problem, take your time with it. I agree it will look better with your method. Also, could you do something with the personnel section of the above remix album. It's really long, and scrolling down the page is a nightmare. If you could do something to resolve this it would be appreciated. — Realist2 16:45, 22 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm pretty sure those types of titles are allowed... I remember seeing them on a Queen article years ago. Then again, this was years ago, so I don't know what's happened since then. Have a good day! :) CarpetCrawlermessage me 00:16, 13 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The Beatles Collection is the first box set of recording by The Beatles and sold in record stores. Why did you delete it from the template? Steelbeard1 (talk) 18:45, 22 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Alternate covers

[edit]

Just a heads-up... Adding alternate covers to articles won't stand up to free-use rules unless the alternate cover illustrates something that is described in the article. That's not a rule I like, so don't shoot the messenger... — John Cardinal (talk) 22:33, 5 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I also see your point of view, but Jennifer and Orianthi are the most recognizable. Whenever Michael performed on tours, his guitarist was ALWAY his sidekick and right hand. The guitarist was always the second star on Michael's shows. We are only cheating ourselves and potential wikipedians who are interested on these two, for if it wasn't for Michael, we never would have known they existed. (LonerXL (talk) 00:28, 4 November 2009 (UTC))[reply]

Agreed. The point i somehow fitting it into the template wihout having a reason for it to get deleted. MaJic Talk 2 Me. I'll Listen. 15:37, 5 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Logo for Lady Gaga

[edit]

I have reverted your addition of a logo to the infobox of the Lady Gaga article. By using actual text instead of an image, the article remains more accessible to users with screen readers, text-only browsers, the mobile web, etc. Additionally, as the logo is your own work and is not an official logo, no additional understanding of the subject is gained by using it. —C.Fred (talk) 03:28, 2 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

File permission problem with File:JB1223.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:JB1223.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. —Bkell (talk) 05:51, 21 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for File:Backtofronttempt.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Backtofronttempt.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a search with the contents of Mrs. Lennon (album), and it appears to be very similar to another Wikipedia page: Mrs. Lennon. It is possible that you have accidentally duplicated contents, or made an error while creating the page— you might want to look at the pages and see if that is the case. If you are intentionally trying to rename an article, please see Help:Moving a page for instructions on how to do this without copying and pasting. If you are trying to move or copy content from one article to a different one, please see Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia and be sure you have acknowledged the duplication of material in an edit summary to preserve attribution history.

It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. CorenSearchBot (talk) 02:17, 26 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hold My Hand

[edit]

As you notice, the article you recently created Hold My Hand (Duet with Akon) has now been redirected to the Michael album page for certain reasons. But no harm. I suggest you take the content to your userspace area and continue developing the content further as there is already a lot of talk about it, and once it charts, you can reinstate the article with added note about notability. Probably it is a matter of a couple of weeks before it charts. werldwayd (talk) 00:08, 17 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image (File:Elton John - Elton John's Greatest Hits Vol. 3 album cover.jpg)

[edit]

You've uploaded File:Elton John - Elton John's Greatest Hits Vol. 3 album cover.jpg, and indicated that it's used under Wikipedia's rules for non-free images. However, it's not presently used in any articles. Wikipedia policy requires that non-free images be either used or deleted, so if this image isn't used in an article in the next week, it will be deleted.

License tagging for File:Jackson5Story.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Jackson5Story.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 17:06, 15 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The Beatles - Past Masters

[edit]

Hi MaJic, I see you made edits to the Past Masters article some time ago, which included removing the track listing for the LP version of the album [1] (User:Steelbeard1 subsequently replaced the article's CD track list with the LP track list). Currently a debate is under-way at Talk:Past Masters#Current configuration of Past Masters compilation. to try to reach a concensus on which track list should be used in the article - CD or LP. Your comments would be appreciated. Thanks. memphisto 11:58, 18 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

This is an automated message from VWBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Charles Thomson (journalist), and it appears to include material copied directly from http://www.charles-thomson.net.

It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. The article will be reviewed to determine if there are any copyright issues.

If substantial content is duplicated and it is not public domain or available under a compatible license, it will be deleted. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material. You may use such publications as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. See our copyright policy for further details. (If you own the copyright to the previously published content and wish to donate it, see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials for the procedure.) VWBot (talk) 23:53, 2 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Charles Thomson (journalist), requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Business for more information.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion," which appears inside of the speedy deletion ({{db-...}}) tag (if no such tag exists, the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate). Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. I dream of horses If you reply here, please leave me a {{Talkback}} message on my talk page. @ 00:02, 3 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

File permission problem with File:CharlesGeorge.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:CharlesGeorge.jpg.

If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Eeekster (talk) 03:31, 11 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Your move of Brandy Norwood has been reverted

[edit]

Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you recently tried to give Brandy Norwood a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into another page with a different name. This is known as a "cut and paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is needed for attribution and various other purposes. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page. This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Cut and paste move repair holding pen. Thank you. —C.Fred (talk) 14:42, 4 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Userbox alignment

[edit]

Templates all the way down The code for my userboxes looks like this:

{{Boxboxtopalt|TEXT}}
{{User abc}}
...
{{User xyz}}
{{Userboxbottom}}

This makes your userboxes float to the left and locks them into a div with some style associated with it. If that seems confusing, just let me know. —Justin (koavf)TCM 18:05, 19 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:NSYNC German Japan.png

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:NSYNC German Japan.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. — ξxplicit 01:45, 30 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for the calculation of the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. See User:RonBot for info on how to not get these messages. DS in effect

[edit]
This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

Please carefully read this information:

A community discussion has authorised the use of general sanctions for pages related to Michael Jackson.
The specific details of these sanctions are described here:-

Broadly, general sanctions is a system of conduct regulation designed to minimise disruption in controversial topic areas. This means uninvolved administrators can impose sanctions for edits relating to these topics that do not adhere to the purpose of Wikipedia, our standards of behaviour, or relevant policies. Administrators may impose sanctions such as editing restrictions, bans, or blocks. An editor can only be sanctioned after he or she has been made aware that general sanctions are in effect. This notification is meant to inform you that sanctions are authorised in these topic areas, which you have been editing. It is only effective if it is logged here. Before continuing to edit pages in these topic areas, please familiarise yourself with the general sanctions system. Don't hesitate to contact me or another editor if you have any questions.

Accusation of Canvassing

[edit]

BD2412, is there any actual substance or proof to the concern MaJic's vote was canvassed to the RfC on Michael Jackson's talk page? Should that canvassing concern note remain? I've checked MaJic's user and contribution pages, and what I see is that he's a prolific editor that has created 27 articles, some of which are related to Michael Jackson, but that alone is in no way proof of canvassing. (Editors that have an interest in a particular topic may watch the articles and talk pages in question, regularly visit such pages, and therefore be alerted of the RfC. Some may vote "yes" or "no", etc.) His contribution page shows numerous edits pertaining to a vast number of artists, so I'm not sure why that note is still up. MaJic, who accused you of canvassing and where? castorbailey (talk) 19:24, 17 March 2021 (UTC) [reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited List of songs recorded by Aaliyah, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page One in a Million. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)
