[edit]Hello CrescentSchoolToronto. The nature of your edits, such as the one you made to Crescent School (Toronto), gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest (COI) editing that involves being compensated by a person, group, company or organization to use Wikipedia to promote their interests. Undisclosed paid advocacy is prohibited by our policies on neutral point of view and what Wikipedia is not, and is an especially serious type of COI; the Wikimedia Foundation regards it as a "black hat" practice akin to black-hat search-engine optimization.
Paid advocates are very strongly discouraged from direct article editing, and should instead propose changes on the talk page of the article in question if an article exists. If the article does not exist, paid advocates are extremely strongly discouraged from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation process, rather than directly.
Regardless, if you are receiving or expect to receive compensation for your edits, broadly construed, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:CrescentSchoolToronto. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=CrescentSchoolToronto|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}
. If I am mistaken – you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits – please state that in response to this message. Otherwise, please provide the required disclosure. In either case, do not edit further until you answer this message. Equine-man (talk) 20:59, 17 October 2021 (UTC)
Hello, I'm Equine-man. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, Crescent School (Toronto), but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so. You can have a look at referencing for beginners. If you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Equine-man (talk) 21:07, 17 October 2021 (UTC)
Conflict of interest
[edit]Thank you for leaving a message on my talk page. You appear to have a conflict of interest, please read and comply with the first message at the top of this page. Equine-man (talk) 21:14, 17 October 2021 (UTC)
I am not getting paid for making changes to the page. I work in the Marketing and Communications department at the School and I am simply trying to update outdated content. How can I proceed?
- you work for the school, therefore you are being paid. You comply with the instructions of the message. You should also add reliable sources for any changes made. Equine-man (talk) 21:19, 17 October 2021 (UTC)
OK, so where do I indicate that I work at this organization?
- There are instructions in the message above. Magnolia677 (talk) 21:23, 17 October 2021 (UTC)

[edit]You should also read our conflict of interest guideline and be aware that promotional editing is not acceptable regardless of the username you choose. Additionally, if your contributions to Wikipedia form all or part of work for which you are, or expect to be, paid, you must disclose who is paying you to edit.
Please also note that you are permitted to use a username that contains the name of a company or organization if it identifies you individually, such as "Sara Smith at XYZ Company", "Mark at WidgetsUSA", or "FoobarFan87".
If your username does not represent a group, organization or website, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}
at the bottom of your talk page.
You may simply create a new account, but you may prefer to change your username to one that complies with our username policy, so that your past contributions are associated with your new username. If you would prefer to change your username, you may appeal this username block by adding the text
{{unblock-un|new username|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}
at the bottom of your talk page. Please note that you may only request a name that is not already in use, so please check here for a listing of already taken names.
Thank you.- In addition, you should limit yourself to proposing changes on the article talk page using the edit request process. Be sure to provide references to reliable sources. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 21:48, 17 October 2021 (UTC)

[edit]As part of your name change and COI, you were advised “you should limit yourself to proposing changes on the article talk page using the edit request process. Be sure to provide references to reliable sources.” This means you should not be editing the article yourself. Equine-man (talk) 21:29, 9 November 2021 (UTC)
