A tag has been placed on Carrizo Oil & Gas, Inc requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organization or company, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, you can place a request here. Dewritech (talk) 13:48, 6 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Recent edits...

[edit]

Hi Christina! I noticed a small issue with one of your recent contributions (just a few typographical errors) at Discover Financial. Upon digging a little deeper, though, I noticed a number of your recent contributions reference a website hosted by Stanford, which appears to compile data from other press releases and news reports without actually citing the original source of the information. In addition to potential copyright issues, it also makes it difficult or impossible for other editors and readers to ascertain the reliability and neutrality of this information. I also noticed [[User:MeganKing] has been making substantially similar edits. Are your edits part of a project or assignment of some kind? user:j (talk) 01:47, 18 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hi, j, MaganKing and I are in the same project. We try to supplement information of notable public companies in wiki. we will try to change the reference from Stanford to other press releases in our previous and later work. Thank you for reminding me that. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lvzhpchristina (talkcontribs) 02:34, 18 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Well, it's actually best to have third-party reliable sources. Press releases might be alright if you're sourcing uncontroversial information, say, the number of employees at a company or its headquarters location, etc. But if you're sourcing a lawsuit, you'd probably want to have sourcing where the situation has been covered by a newspaper, journal, or other reliable source. Just a press release issued by the plaintiff would not really be sufficient without corroborating reliable sources. (For example, if it's important from an encyclopedic standpoint, you could potentially use a press release as sourcing for a quote or other statement by an involved party, but you'd need reliable sourcing to establish that the case occurred and was significant enough to the history of the company to warrant its inclusion in an encyclopedic article about said company.) Hope this helps. user:j (talk) 03:50, 18 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

"On March 24, 2005 , Level 3 Communications chief executive James Crowe received a $2 million bonus last year, drawing a bit of fire from one analyst Wednesday" [1] is a weird thing to write. Are you mechanically putting in a lot of stuff without actually reading it? I assume "last year" is 2004, and maybe Wednesday is some day in March 2005. - Ttwaring (talk) 12:56, 10 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your answer on my talk page. Are you going to fix the Level 3 Communications page you updated? You can answer here if you like (or preferably just fix it!) - Ttwaring (talk) 12:50, 12 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Here's the full text pointed to by another of your additions to the Aéropostale (clothing) article [2]: "Aeropostale, a youth-oriented apparel retailer, will open a store at the Newgate Mall in Ogden on May 20. The company opened 101 stores in 2004 and has plans to open more than 90 stores in 2005. The company did not disclose whether any more store openings are planned in Utah this year." So somewhere in the middle of opening more than 191 stores, why do you call out one mall in Ogden? This just seems like a pointless addition to the article. Please rewrite it or remove it. - Ttwaring (talk) 01:31, 23 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Company edits

[edit]

Hi, I've been looking over some of your recent edits. It's good to see someone trying to improve articles in this arena, as Wikipedia's coverage of major corporations in general is rather embarrassingly thin. However, I'm finding that many of your additions are rather random and at a level of detail that's too fine-grained. An encyclopedia article is meant to be a summary of the important facts about the topic. Many of your additions are about small events like an adjustment of dividends, a restatement of earnings, or awarding of a small contract. The important events that should be covered in a company's history are things like acquisitions, bankruptcies, expansions into new geographies or segments. Please try and keep this in mind, and happy editing! Toohool (talk) 17:02, 30 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Edit summaries

[edit]

Hi there. When editing an article on Wikipedia there is a small field labeled "Edit summary" under the main edit-box. It looks like this:

Edit summary (Briefly describe your changes)

The text written here will appear on the Recent changes page, in the page revision history, on the diff page, and in the watchlists of users who are watching that article. See m:Help:Edit summary for full information on this feature.

Filling in the edit summary field greatly helps your fellow contributors in understanding what you changed, so please always fill in the edit summary field. If you are adding a section, please do not just keep the previous section's header in the Edit summary field – please fill in your new section's name instead. Thank you. 220 of Borg 18:10, 25 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Lvzhpchristina and welcome to Wikipedia! It appears you are participating in a class project. If you haven't done so already, we encourage you to go through our training for students.

Go through our online training for students.

If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{Helpme}} before the question. Please also read this helpful advice for students.

Before you create an article, make sure you understand what kind of articles are accepted here. Remember: Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, and while many topics are encyclopedic, some things are not.

Your instructor or professor may wish to set up a course page, if your class doesn't already have one. It is highly recommended that you place this text: {{Educational assignment}} on the talk page of any articles you are working on as part of your Wikipedia-related course assignment. This will let other editors know this article is a subject of an educational assignment and aid your communication with them.

We hope you like it here and encourage you to stay even after your assignment is finished! 220 of Borg 18:11, 25 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Nomination of Laredo Petroleum for deletion

[edit]

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Laredo Petroleum is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Laredo Petroleum until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 01:36, 28 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The article Patterson-UTI has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No indication of significance or importance. Being a public traded company does not assert notability. Routine stock market reports, corporate listings, press releases, and primary sources. Fails WP:GNG, WP:ORG, and WP:ORGDEPTH. WP:NOTYELLOW.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
