Worldlywise

Hey, I noticed you reverted some of this guy's edits. Have you looked at their contribs overall? I'm 90% certain they're a sockpuppet (either good-hand/bad-hand, or being used to get around some kind of editing restriction -- this and this clinched it for me, but the overall projectspace editing seems somewhat suspicious, especially their first ever projectspace edit), and are just racking up a large number of gnomish edits by copy-pasting old Olympic results into our thousands of athlete stubs, but I'm not sure how to proceed with the matter; any assistance you could provide (even if it's just "I'm not seeing it -- are you sure?") would be appreciated. Hijiri 88 (やや) 08:18, 9 January 2020 (UTC)

Hi Hijiri88. I've had my concerns about this editor's general editing for a while. I'll take a look at some of their other edits and see if anything clicks. Thanks. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 08:30, 9 January 2020 (UTC)

Hylda Sims

I'd like to understand your recent edit on Hylda Sims with the short description template "overriding the Wikidata description." The subject appears to be a published poet as well as folk musician. How does that template work? -- Cheers, Deborahjay (talk) 20:08, 15 January 2020 (UTC)

@Deborahjay: Prior to my edit, the article did not have a short description on Wikipedia. I added one, after patroling the article via the recent deaths page. I simply added the shortest description that made sense (to me). You can change it, if you wish, to say "English folk musician and poet", or whatever you feel is correct in this case. Thanks. You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on 2024 ICC Men's T20 World Cup requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organized event (tour, function, meeting, party, etc.) that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Gerard Debaets

Why is a birth certificate of 1898, which is free accessible, even online in the State Archives, against WP:V? It is reliable, neutral and is not based on the beliefs or experiences of the writer. And the information is verifiable. Akadunzio (talk) 21:51, 7 February 2020 (UTC)

@Akadunzio: Your edit just used the ref "birth certificate 60, Heule, 18 April 1898" which doesn't really verify anything. Infact, now you've added inline refs, the date is now showing at 17 April. Thanks. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 08:57, 8 February 2020 (UTC)
The date of the birth certificate is 18 April 1898. The date of the birth in this certificate is 17 April 1898 (you have some time to report the birth of your child). As there is only one birth certificate 60 on 18 April 1898 in Heule the information in the article can be verified. And so it is not against WP:V. Akadunzio (talk) 09:37, 8 February 2020 (UTC)

Notice

The article Abhishek Das (cricketer) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Fails the criteria for WP:GNG and WP:NCRICKET

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Speedy deletion declined: Frank Akankwasa

Hello Lugnuts. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Frank Akankwasa, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: Hi Lugnuts. Please correct if I'm misreading WP:NCRICKET #4: "Have appeared as a player for an Associate team in a Twenty20 International match after 1 July 2018...". Is the appearence for Uganda v Qatar not a qualifying "Twenty20 International match"? If it ain't, please let me know. Pete AU aka . Thank you. Shirt58 (talk) 09:44, 20 February 2020 (UTC)

@Shirt58: - Thanks for the note. Point 4 refers to Associate players after 1 July 2018 in World Cup tournaments and the associated (pardon the pun) regional finals that feed into the World Cup. The Uganda/Qatar matches are just bilateral matches that aren't part of the World Cup. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 09:47, 20 February 2020 (UTC)

Issue

Hi. Can you participate here? I know what the nominator is trying to say but why does the article England Lions cricket team in Australia in 2019–20 exists? Is this because they are England and Australia? Human (talk) 07:10, 24 February 2020 (UTC)

Thanks. Not sure why these pages exist, as A-team tours do get deleted. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 12:41, 24 February 2020 (UTC)
Infact looking more closely at the Lions tour - it holds even less notabilty (IMO) as virtually non of it is FC or LA. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 15:52, 24 February 2020 (UTC)
@Lugnuts: I see. I don't really care about it anymore. If it gets deleted so be it. I think the UAE players who made their T20I debuts should get articles as they are a ODI nation. I mean that is how Rashid Khan was created. Human (talk) 05:48, 25 February 2020 (UTC)
Quick note on this. I am not sure why Rashid Khan (the Nepalese one!) got a page as he doesn't meet any of the criteria, including point 1 ("played at the top level") any more so than many other players... unless he goes on to play in an ODI, or a T20I in the specified events, or in a FC cricket, List A (outside of ODI) or domestic/franchise T20 in an event with recognised status. Human makes a reasonable point about ODI nation players, but not sure if that is an ammendment that can be made (or if it would make sense to everyone). Bs1jac (talk) 22:35, 4 March 2020 (UTC)
Hi. For this guy, he also competed at the South Asian Games, winning a medal too. Therefore, he meets WP:SPORTBASIC ("...if they have, for example, participated in a major international amateur or professional competition at the highest level...") So a major international sports events such as this would cover it. Thanks. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 07:24, 5 March 2020 (UTC)
Cheers, makes sense. What constitutes major: South American championship? Or just from multisports events such as Pacific Games from 2019? Just making sure I understand the boundaries clearly. Bs1jac (talk) 15:37, 5 March 2020 (UTC)
Multi-sport events, such as the Olympics, Pan-America Games, Asian Games, etc. And in these cases, I've gone for people winning medals too. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 15:39, 5 March 2020 (UTC)
Cool. Does that technically mean the Samoan bronze medalists at the Pacific Games meet WP:SPORTBASIC? PNG and Vanuatu won the other medals and of course most of their players already have articles due to WP:CRICKET (played in an ODI, WCL/CWCL2/CWCCL or relevent level T20I). Bs1jac (talk) 16:01, 5 March 2020 (UTC)
I'd be less inclined with the those at the Pacific Games, as quite a few of the paticipants are territories, rather than countries (Norfolk Islands, Tokelau, etc). However, if you find some other coverage of each player, say an interview or two, that would make a stronger case for an article. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 18:01, 5 March 2020 (UTC)

@Lugnuts and Bs1jac: It's sad to see so many sports events getting postponed due to the pandemic. Well, in Canada, we are under a lockdown as all institutions are closed. How is it going on in the UK? Things don't look good after the England team was called back from Sri Lanka. Human (talk) 21:20, 13 March 2020 (UTC)

@A Simple Human: Basically everything is getting cancelled or postponed here. All professional football, rugby union, London Marathon. The domestic cricket season is under threat. They haven't closed the schools (yet). I hear even the MLS, NBA and golf masters have suspended in the US! F1 races around the world and pro tennis too... Olympics maybe? But safety first of course.Bs1jac (talk) 21:27, 13 March 2020 (UTC)

@Bs1jac: I get about the Olympics. Japan is very close to China. And also USA has declared national emergency. The pandemic has spread to my native Bangladesh as well. I hope this disaster ends soon so that we can enjoy some good games. But I liked the new "handshakes" after the games. Human (talk) 21:46, 13 March 2020 (UTC)
@A Simple Human and Bs1jac: Morning - hope you're both well. As Bs1jac said, all major sport events in the UK are now being pulled. We're not in lockdown (yet), but other measures are taking place. We've been asked to work from home for some of next week, where possible. I do a couple of days at home in any case, so that suits me. Hopefully everyone will get through this the best they can. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 08:28, 14 March 2020 (UTC)

Any chance you can help with this one? I might habe a few others too if you're interested. If not, I totally understand. Thanks for your good works. FloridaArmy (talk) 23:33, 24 February 2020 (UTC)

@FloridaArmy: I've taken a quick look, and I don't understand why that was declined. I'd say refs #2 and #4 show quite a bit of coverage. Here's a few more to help [1], [2], [3]. I've seen your work crop up via my watchlist, and your edits look sound to me. Have you thought of simply creating the aritcles in the mainspace rather than making a draft first? Thanks. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 09:33, 25 February 2020 (UTC)

Sri Lanka v West Indies

I noted that you have deleted a world record by citing that it is trivial. I do not get it. Because, how it become trivial. If you think world records are trivial, you should know that every world record is a trivial. Just remind you about 2019 Cricket World Cup group stage. Check England vs South Africa pool match. What about this - "Imran Tahir (SA), at the age of 40 years and 64 days, became the oldest cricketer for South Africa to play in a World Cup match". It is very funny that you are not deleting them. But a world record is trivial. So what about the highest ODI team total 481. It is trivial? What is that??? Gihan Jayaweera (talk) 21:09, 27 February 2020 (UTC)

Just because something is reported in the media doesn't make it notable, or worthy of repeating here. Being the oldest player or making the biggest total is notable. Not doing something (IE not hitting sixes) is really trivial to the extreme. What next? The most number of water bottles brought on during an innings by the twelfth man? Some cricketers made their debuts in the matches in this series. They might be notable but that depends on you. Also can you check Maaz Khan (cricketer) article I made for any mistakes? Thanks. Human (talk) 20:21, 28 February 2020 (UTC)

Hi Human. Thanks for this. I noticed this the other day TBH, but I'm holding back for now, following on from the changes of the recent England Lions matches. One minute they were saying LA/FC debuts, then a week or so later, they were not! Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 20:23, 28 February 2020 (UTC)

@Lugnuts: Some players made their debuts in this series. I think it's notable because it involves the national team of Namibia. And also I didn't here about MCC's tour of Pakistan from you anymore. Human (talk) 22:56, 6 March 2020 (UTC)

@Bs1jac: Tagging you here too if you are interested in the Namibia part. Let's just hope Corona Corona doesn't ruin future tournaments. Human (talk) 02:22, 7 March 2020 (UTC)

@A Simple Human: Cheers. I nearly created a page for the Namobia series in Feb, but I have never been quite sure about A team tours. Matches definitely have List A/T20 status so I agree with you, but I never got round to it and didnt have the time. I can try to do so over the next day or two if you think its worth it. Ps... also saw the MCC tour and was even less sure. Probably also ok as there is status and there was some media coverage. Bs1jac (talk) 07:39, 7 March 2020 (UTC)

@A Simple Human and Bs1jac: Sorry for not getting back earlier. There was one guy on the MCC tour who had played for Pakistan U19 at the recent U19 World Cup, so I did his profile. The other debuts (I think there were two more) I wasn't too fused about, and scraping the bottom-end of passing WP:NCRIC (IMO). I did wonder if CI would update the Ire/Nam tour, esp. as the Ireland Wolves matches should be LA/T20! I will take a look shortly. Thanks again. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 07:47, 7 March 2020 (UTC)

I am happy to create the series article for the Wolves tour if you like, but go ahead with it yourself if you need it before doing the debut players. Bs1jac (talk) 07:50, 7 March 2020 (UTC)

@Bs1jac: I'll be MORE than happy if you create. I'm just having an uneasy feeling of not having that article. There's also a rumour, mostly from Nepali sources, that Namibia will host a T20I triangular series with the same countries that will play 2020 Namibia Tri-Nation Series (April). Human (talk) 08:13, 7 March 2020 (UTC)
There was meant to be a smilar thing at the 2019 United States Tri-Nation Series too, but the T20I matches never happened. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 08:42, 7 March 2020 (UTC)
Yeah definitely no need to do anything until those rumours are backed up! Bs1jac (talk) 10:09, 7 March 2020 (UTC)

My friend is not that it takes a source to prove that German is spoken as a first language in South Tyrol. It's a fact. I love you. --Kasper2006 (talk) 13:25, 11 March 2020 (UTC)

You still need to cite if an individual actually speaks German. Neither of the sources you added at Nicola Mayr's article actually state that Mayr speaks this language. Thanks. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 13:35, 11 March 2020 (UTC)
@Lugnuts, don't bother yourself, but they've filed at WP:AN. Well, until it's snowing in Australia, anyway. ——SN54129 13:54, 11 March 2020 (UTC)

Insanely fast

How do you write your articles so fast? I've always wondered.. Neverbuffed (talk) 18:17, 23 March 2020 (UTC)

Just years of practice! I'll write up a full report when I get back to my home planet. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 18:18, 23 March 2020 (UTC)
