Why are my edits to a Wiki page, made yesterday, erased? How can I find out why? Any advice is greatly appreciated. Lucawilliam (talk) 19:18, 27 May 2009 (UTC)
- Your content sounded too much like an advertisement for an encyclopedia article. See WP:NOTADVERTISING. But I suppose you can briefly include the link in the external links section. Zagalejo^^^ 21:39, 27 May 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for your help! FYI: Coach Pat Riley has the following on his page - Riley is also a highly successful motivational speaker during the off-season. Riley earns in excess of $50,000 for each speaking engagement. Pat Riley's speaker profile We were trying to mimic this kind of info. Can we legitimately add a line like this to Magic's Off Court section? Lucawilliam (talk) 22:51, 29 May 2009 (UTC)
- If you do mention Johnson's public speaking career, you should describe it briefly in a manner-of-fact manner. "Johnson also works as a motivational speaker." -- something simple like that.
- The lines in the Pat Riley article need some tweaking, themselves, although they're a little bit less advertorial than what was in the Magic Johnson article. But as a general note, there's a lot of stuff sitting around in Wikipedia articles that doesn't technically meet the site's guidelines and policies. So, just because you see something in an article doesn't mean it's supposed to be there; it's just that no one caught it yet. :) Zagalejo^^^ 04:04, 30 May 2009 (UTC)
The photo on Magic Johnson's page could be better by showing his warm, award-winning smile. How can I change to perhaps this jpeg image: ejohnson_200_080206?
- Well, we're limited in what we can use for images of living people. They're supposed to be free, non-copyrighted images. And if you own an image that you'd like to upload, you should realize that you'd be giving anyone the right to copy it and use it as they please.
- If you're still interested in uploading an image, let me know, and I can tell you what you need to do. Zagalejo^^^ 04:04, 30 May 2009 (UTC)
Great! Thanks again for the advice and direction. If not too much trouble, please send me instructions on how to upload a new photo. Much appreciated. Lucawilliam (talk) 22:05, 1 June 2009 (UTC)
- You can go to Wikipedia:Upload and follow the instructions there. The process can be somewhat complicated, so let me know if you need help. Zagalejo^^^ 05:42, 2 June 2009 (UTC)
