Reverting without discussion?

Again, there was no year 0, so the first decade was 1–10. At some point in the 1990s people lost their sense of time and just started rounding down. There's a reason those cats were there for so long. WP:STATUSQUO and WP:BRD are the principles you should rely on. Walter Görlitz (talk) 16:56, 6 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

No, 2010s ran from 2011 to 2020 as explained by the regression to year zero above. You are now edit warring. Your next revert will place you at beyond WP:3RR. Walter Görlitz (talk) 17:01, 6 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, LucasKannou,
That is not the message that these notices is meant to send! Go ahead and place appropriate pages in these categories. We tag empty categories when we come across them to mark the day and time when we find them empty. If they are still empty in 7 days, they are deleted. If they are not empty during this 7 days, the tag is removed. "Speedy deletion" in this criteria, is not actually that speedy! The tagging is just to mark the beginning of this 7 day period so the system can keep track of them. But often times, an editor creates a category and then later places pages in that category before the 7 days is up. They usually don't make this many categories all at once but that is your call. We don't want to get rid of useful categories so, by all means, if you think they are valid and helpful to readers, use them to categorize articles in the next week.
And also, if categories are deleted simply for being empty categories, they can always be recreated later, when they are needed. It's not like categories that have gone through a CFD deletion discussion and are deleted and can't be recreated again. We just don't want thousands of empty categories that are not being used and this is the system that has been created to deal with that. I hope this explains things in a way that templates don't. Liz Read! Talk! 18:15, 7 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I will place appropriate categories for stubs. LucasKannou (talk) 18:19, 7 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Notes about {{pp-semi-protected}} and similar

[edit]

Hey, i appreciate you adding the {{pp-semi-protected}} templates to some protected templates, but you have to be careful. Make sure that you put the protection inside <noinclude> tags, as if you dont, the protection then gets transcluded to any page that uses this template, leading to a Category:Wikipedia_pages_with_incorrect_protection_templates issue. Thanks. Aidan9382 (talk) 06:03, 9 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Teyora - Development first look!

[edit]

Hi! I'm Ed6767, the original creator of RedWarn, now one of the most popular tools on the English Wikipedia that's been used by over 1,000 Wikimedians to make over 300,000 edits since mid-2020 that's been praised for its user friendliness and ease of use, but criticised for its limited functionality. I'm leaving this message as I think it may be of interest here - I left the RedWarn project in November to develop Teyora, my successor to RedWarn (alongside Chlod's UltraViolet). It's a new in development web app that uses some of the latest web technologies to create a highly extendable all in one editing tool with a focus on administration, counter vandalism and general patrolling - not to mention, it'll work on every Wikimedia project without any prior configuration and can be used by any user with at least auto-confirmed rights*. Now, I'm ready to give the Wikimedia community a first look at what I've been doing over the past six months and what to expect going forward.

You can check out the 20 minute first look at the in development version on YouTube here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nzlpnzXdLP4.

There's lots more to expect too! Why not read the full details page at meta:Teyora and leave any feedback, comments or wishes at meta:Talk:Teyora (please leave any correspondence there to keep discussion centralised). If you're interested, you can leave your signature

*with basic features, advanced features require configuration. To prevent abuse, auto-confirmed users will be in a restricted mode until approved by an admin or via rollback rights.

Cropping of non-free content

[edit]

You or a bot in your control recently resized and cropped this image. While resizing images is obviously perfectly fine (and necessary), I would ask that you please refrain from cropping images of artwork in the future. There is a reason the image included so much empty space; the work is very small and that needs to be communicated through the picture. I specifically took that photograph (and several others) with Wikipedia usage in mind, and they are a specific aspect ratio for a reason. Thanks! 19h00s (talk) 03:10, 19 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Some advice…

[edit]

Hello, I saw you had reverted vandalism by this user. You had subsequently added an only warning and final warning here and here. My advice is that you can report persistent vandals to AIV, a noticeboard for administrators to take action on vandals across Wikipedia. Typically, you should report them if they continue to vandalize after a final warning. If you see this text on their talk page "You may be blocked from editing without further warning", and they continue to vandalize, best report to AIV. As I see you are using RedWarn, you can report it as easy as going to the user's talk page, clicking on the three dots, and select "report user to AIV". Then, you will be given a drop-down menu over the following rationale. Now, since I already reported the user, you don't have to, but keep this in mind when you see a similar case. Hopefully this helps! — 3PPYB6TALKCONTRIBS00:28, 23 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

OK, I will report this user when they vandalized before their fourth warning was given. LucasKannou (talk) 00:31, 23 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I'm assuming you meant after. Typically in some cases, yes, you can report before the final warning (such as vandalism-only accounts), but in most cases, you should only report after the final warning. Thanks! — 3PPYB6TALKCONTRIBS00:32, 23 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Editor of the Week
Your ongoing efforts to improve the encyclopedia have not gone unnoticed: You have been selected as Editor of the Week in recognition of your great contributions! (courtesy of the Wikipedia Editor Retention Project)

User:Sahaib submitted the following nomination for Editor of the Week:

I nominate LucasKannou to be Editor of the Week for his consistent work reducing the image sizes of non-free works. Myself and others have already recognised this work by giving him barnstars and (as User:Popculturelover2021 put it) it means we don't have to wait for DatBot to do it. He has been active since February 2020 and has over 6000 edits with 95% in mainspace (about 70% of the mainspace edits are in the file namespace). He reverts unconstructive edits and has created over 100 user talk pages where he informs the users that their edits were unconstructive or vandalism. The user has also created some pages and is a member of WikiProject COVID-19.

You can copy the following text to your user page to display a user box proclaiming your selection as Editor of the Week:

Needless micro-reductions in image sizes

[edit]

LucasKannou, many thanks for your efforts to improve the encyclopedia. However, it seems that many of your size-reduction edits to images are not necessary. A large number of images uploaded under the fair-usage rules are calculated using the "Image Resize Calculator" (https://wcam-bot.toolforge.org/) with the default target of 100,000 pixels. This does a pretty good job, but it sometimes allows the resized image to be VERY SLIGHTLY over the target: for instance, a user resizing a 567x573 image is told to resize it to 315x118 (=100,170 pixels). There is really no point cropping such an image to, say, 315x317 to come within the exact pixel-range; no admin is going to worry about that, and nor should you. All the best, Chiswick Chap (talk) 10:59, 2 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for uploading File:Allan Darden COL.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. I just removed the border the image, but Don.H.40 didn't provide a source first. LucasKannou (talk) 02:36, 13 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable non-free use File:TwistedWheelBadge.png

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:TwistedWheelBadge.png. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of non-free use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of non-free use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{Di-replaceable non-free use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable non-free use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification, per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

The image has been replaced on the article Northern soul by a free alternative representing The Twisted Wheel, and free examples of northern soul patches, in general, can be reasonably created. See talk for details. Thanks --Voello talk 02:55, 16 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I will never upload any copyrighted images that's replaceable by uncopyrighted images. LucasKannou (talk) 17:55, 16 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Vehicle registration plates of Virginia, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Naval Reserve. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, --DPL bot (talk) 19:56, 25 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

NYS license plates

[edit]

Lucas, what reference are you using for the timeline of the release of New York State license plates? You edited that page a couple days ago to indicate that LSx series plates were being issued, which was literally the day after I first saw an LRx series plate on New York City streets. -- SelfCorrection (talk) 05:57, 11 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The reference I am using is the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles for reserved highs. LucasKannou (talk) 19:34, 11 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry but that just links to the NYS DMV Wikipedia page. Is there some other, official on-line source for the reserved plate numbers? — SelfCorrection (talk) 08:19, 13 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
There is nothing other than the NYS DMV source for the reserved license plates. LucasKannou (talk) 20:22, 13 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
