Managing a conflict of interest[edit]

Information icon Hello, Loumarinoff. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. Editing for the purpose of advertising or promotion is not permitted. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your COI when discussing affected articles (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Also please note that editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. LynxTufts (talk) 15:18, 8 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

First of all, please read this post above and the links in it, particularly WP:COI. We strongly disapprove of people writing about themselves in any circumstances. The edit you made is a pretty good illustration of why we disapprove of this, as the tone and most of the content are completely unsuitable for this encyclopedia and would be better suited to your personal website. Your edit summary (This is Louis Marinoff, editing my own content in my own words. Please leave them as is!) indicates that you are, in fact, treating this article as your own personal website. This is absolutely not how Wikipedia works. Anything you write can and will be changed mercilessly or even be removed by other people. Certainly the current article is not very good but that is because efforts to expand it have been undone because the material added was extremely unsuitable. If there is a specific change you want to be made to the article (e.g. to correct a factual inaccuracy) then there are ways you can do that, but Wikipedia editors aren't going to help you write about yourself.
