Thank you for your tireless contribution to Tamil culture related articles. Keep up the good work and I hope your energy lasts a long time. Parthi talk/contribs 09:31, 31 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Lotlil, this is a very informative article. Well done! Are you aware of the work of Dorian Fuller at UCL? He's done a decent bit of archaelogical work on agriculture in South India in the prehistoric period. There may be some useful information in this paper. His other stuff is also online here, but most of it deals more generally with South India or India rather than the territory of ancient Tamilakam. -- Arvind 21:33, 31 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Kannada literature

[edit]

Lotlil, please give me a week to start a FA on Kannada literature. This has been long due. We have all the material, fully cited to go for a possible FA. Lets not create a edit war now as it will be just wasted energy. Once the work starts, things will fall into place.thanks.Dineshkannambadi 19:36, 24 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

And can you please explain what exactly were you trying to achieve in those bizarre edits? I can help you if you need something to be done. Gnanapiti 19:38, 24 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, The article is ready for a GA nomination, although I don't really see the point in a GA. It would be more fruitful to go straight to a FAC nomination. You many want to invite some of the excellent copyeditors such as User:Taxman, User:Tony1, User:Mattisse, etc to have a look at the prose. They are much more capable and neutral. I will also try my hand at copyediting. Parthi talk/contribs 10:02, 27 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Saw your message today. Going for FAC makes good sense. I'll chip in where possible. -- Sundar \talk \contribs 12:20, 28 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Copy edit request

[edit]

I am certainly willing to help you out. I have not had a chance to do more than scan the article at this point. Perhaps you could give me an idea of how you want to proceed. I will read the comments in the peer review. Do you want me to go ahead and try to fix the problems listed? What is your ultimate goal? I usually work on FAC's so my standards may be unnecessarily high, depending on what you want. I don't know what the standards for GA are. Let me know. Regards, --Mattisse 17:05, 27 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

O.K. I would not address the content issues anyway. I will note to you where proper referencing is needed though as that is a big deal in FAC. Regards, --Mattisse 19:18, 27 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The whole first section Sources will never fly in FAC. You cannot combine literature and history. You can use archaeological findings, the writings of historians past and present, and occasionally something like the diaries of a foreign traveler or something like that. Literature, poetry will not be accepted as sources for a historical article except perhaps to illustrate a point. See Hoysala architecture and others like that to see how history of India articles are sourced. I wrote a little article, Ashoka's Major Rock Edict, and used a modern history book as a source. Regards, --Mattisse 20:08, 27 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Also, you need ISBN's for all books in References. Regards, --Mattisse 20:19, 27 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

(answer to question on my talk page)

I don't know. I am confused here. Primary sources are not considered sources, I don't believe, per WP:V and WP:RS. Also, having such a long section on sources at the beginning detracts from the subject of your article. Since the sources article is so long, it almost suggests that there should be a sub article. There is a link in the article (I can't find it now!) that goes to something-something-poetry (or maybe it was literature). Anyway, is this an article on literature or on history?

Don't get distressed at my comments, because if you do go for FAC, it is a grueling and humbling process! (They will be very critical.) I am not sure what you mean by "Tamil country". Is there not a more specific name? Do you mean country as in "city vs. country", or do you mean country as in "nation". I have not heard that term before. Is that a commonly used term? The link to Tamil people is not very helpful because it makes Tamil seem multinational, not necessarily related to a specific area of India. Maybe you can straighten me out here. Regards, --Mattisse 20:37, 27 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Not protective

[edit]

No, you don't seem protective. I just am not interested in debating the issue of references and sources. I am still working on your article. I just don't want to bother with the Sources part right now, as it will have to be changed, as I think you agree. Are you aware that for FAC, you have to use the ndash for hyphens in footnotes? Regards, --Mattisse 21:18, 28 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"Bangalore "vs "Bengaluru", again

[edit]

The article on Bangalore has yet again been moved to "Bengaluru". That move was done hastily and in disregard of the long-running controversy about it and past lack of consensus for it. (It has also been made irreversible by ordinary editors.)
If your opinion is still that the article belongs at "Bangalore", please say so on the article's talkpage. -- Lonewolf BC (talk) 16:44, 3 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Asian 10,000 Challenge invite

[edit]

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like South East Asia, Japan/China or India etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Asian content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 200 articles in just three days. If you would like to see this happening for Asia, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Asia, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 05:18, 20 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. We're into the last five days of the Women in Red World Contest. There's a new bonus prize of $200 worth of books of your choice to win for creating the most new women biographies between 0:00 on the 26th and 23:59 on 30th November. If you've been contributing to the contest, thank you for your support, we've produced over 2000 articles. If you haven't contributed yet, we would appreciate you taking the time to add entries to our articles achievements list by the end of the month. Thank you, and if participating, good luck with the finale!
