"UNBREAKABLE SIGNS of the LADY in the SIXTH VILLAGE!" not by Rod Serling

[edit]

The children sat in a circle. The stories the old man told of the Past, before the War, were always riveting, and they waited, with hushed anticipation. It was twilight, and as the old man entered the candle lit room, he cast a menacing shadow. He slowly sat down on his old wooden rocking chair, his bones seeming to creek as much as the hand-made seat beneath him.

He felt his stories of the Past served two purposes... To entertain, yes. But it was his duty, the duty of all the Elders, he would often say, to tell the young of the past to warn them, to keep them from making the same mistakes that caused so much death.

And tonight's story was especially important - for he would be telling of the events before the War.

He started with tales of the Machines. Unbelievable thinking machines that would sit on one's desk. The ability to talk on a telephone without any type of chord. Amazing devices, but the most wonderous, and the one with which he spoke most reverantly, was something he called The Wikipedia. A huge work of reference somehow written by millions of people, who all more or less (usually less) got along. And this is where his voice gets hushed. He would tell of the 'bots. No, not the machines and the AIs from the War, but of the Wikipedia 'bots. They were programs, set loose unto the world, automatically building... conecting... some, unsupervised. Then there was a bot created, that which should not be named, the 'bot that in the dark corners of the interwebs, would consolidate forces, bringing together the elements that would lead to the rise of the machines, the twenty years of war, and the fifty years of darkness. And then, one of the children asked the imortal question:

"Granpa... What was the name of the 'bot?"

The old man got quiet... he stood up, raised his cane in the air and yelled in a deep, booming voice heretofore unheard in the halls of the great house he shared with his family...

"It was...

"LORD VOLDEBOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

"...That's a stupid name."

"Quiet!"

"Mom, granpa yelled at me!"

From the other room: "Dad, are you telling your stories again?"

"Y-yes, but its 2082, there's been six years of peace, they need to know the truth, they--"

"Dad...
