Welcome!
[edit]Hello, LongTimeLurkerFirstTimeUser, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.
I noticed that one of the first articles you edited was Draft:Garrett Armfield, which appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.
To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, and then ask me or another editor to proofread it. See our help page on userspace drafts for more details. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.
One rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which imply that the account belongs to a company or corporation. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization may be OK.)
In addition, if you receive, or expect to receive, compensation for any contribution you make, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation to comply with our terms of use and our policy on paid editing.

- Hello,
- To be honest with you and with Wikipedia, I am in touch with Garrett Armfield, and he knows I am editing the draft he wrote himself on Wikipedia. I, however, do not work for him nor am I getting paid for this: I am doing this as a hobby and because I am a fan of MMA and Garrett Armfield’s fighting.
- As a matter of fact, I intend to write many more articles for MMA fighters who are or used to be in the UFC but do not have a Wikipedia article.
- So, whereas I consider myself a fan of Garrett Armfield, I do not believe that there is a conflict of interest in writing this article, but then again I respect Wikipedia and its terms of use, so I will stick to whatever goes according to them.
- Thanks for your reply. LongTimeLurkerFirstTimeUser (talk) 07:39, 12 August 2024 (UTC)
- If you and Garrett have been communicating about the Wikipedia page, that would indeed be a conflict of interest as an external relationship, and should be disclosed (either on your userpage or at the talkpage). Having a CoI is not necessarily bad, as nearly every person has some form of bias towards certain topics (&, may or may not want to edit the articles for those topics). In this situation, extra care should be taken to avoid coming across as biased. From the looks of things, it seems you've done a solid job with this: The article does seem very neutrally worded from what I've read so far. And, at the end of the day, a notable fighter is ALWAYS a notable fighter, regardless of who wrote the article. The question now is whether or not Garrett is notable for a Wikipedia article.
- In an effort to not have articles about every fighter who's ever fought, we have notability guidelines for mixed-martial artists. Per WP:NMMA, MMA fighters are assumed to be notable if they have ever been ranked in the top 10 in the world for their division. There are other paths to notability, such as the general notability guideline that any person could theoretically reach. What sources in the article do you think are the "best three" in the draft right now, and establish Garrett's notability? Utopes (talk / cont) 13:28, 12 August 2024 (UTC)
- I understand. Then there is a CoI; however, as you pointed out, I remained neutral throughout the article and just wrote what has been going on with his career. Now, so far Garrett Armfield has not been ranked in the UFC bantamweight rankings, and has never been a top 10 bantamweight in the world, but he was a champion in the Fighting Alliance Championship, a professional MMA promotion, as well as fights on popular promotions such as Cage Fury FC, Legacy Fighting Alliance or Shamrock FC, and he is considered top 58 in the world in a weight class with lots of fighters (MMA is pretty big in Japan, a country producing a great many bantamweights, for instance).
- Nonetheless, I have noticed that fighters such as Rong Zhu, Wang Cong, Kai Asakura, Junior Tafa, Uroš Medić, Gregory Rodrigues (who was champ in a different promotion, but never ranked top 10 in the world, like Armfield) have never been ranked top 10 in the world, and therefore would not fit Wikipedia’s notability criteria for MMA fighters, but they all have articles.
- As for the sources that best establish his notability: number 4, which is the tapology page for his championship victory in the FAC, number 1, which is his profile page on the UFC including the Q&A I used to reference his personal information, and then the ones pertaining to his last two fights, the victory to Katona in Canada and the loss to Heistand, because they show he is a fighter who has remained active in the UFC since being signed, numbers 22 and 23.
- Thank you for your time and for educating me on Wikipedia. LongTimeLurkerFirstTimeUser (talk) 15:10, 12 August 2024 (UTC)
AfC notification: Draft:Garrett Armfield has a new comment
[edit]- Hello Utopes, I am aware of it, I would want that row that is misaligned on top because it is Garrett Armfield’s last fight, but I don’t know how to properly place it. Could you please lend a hand if you know how to put it on top? LongTimeLurkerFirstTimeUser (talk) 13:10, 12 August 2024 (UTC)
- I'll take a look and see if I can fix; thank you for the context! Utopes (talk / cont) 13:28, 12 August 2024 (UTC)
