Working in Wikipedia

[edit]

Hi Lokesh. Wikipedia is not a blog. It is an encyclopedia, run by policies and guidelines that the community itself has put in place over the past 16 years.

It is clear that you are all excited about Iota, and that is fine, but when you edit here you have to understand here.

There are links in the welcome message above that explain this place somewhat, but they are somewhat scattered. I wrote this -- User:Jytdog/How - to try to explain Wikipedia in one place, in a way that is meant to help people understand what we do, and how we do it, and why we do it that way. Wikipedia is a bizarre place (really). Please slow down and try to understand it. If you have any questions please ask. Folks are happy to help, but you have to try to learn. Thanks. Request reason:

Hi Everyone, I understand why you may have banned me, I would like to clarify a few things. 1. I am not any kind of bot. 2. I agree the content I tried posting was very similar to the one that was previously banned. 3. What I was trying to post was the design on the IOTA cryto currency alone, given the nascent nature of the industry, am not sure what kind of sources I can provide to confirm the information that I am providing is true. At this point the white paper and a few websites may be the only sources I can quote, unless you can help me in suggesting what would be an example for something as new as this. 4. The content did strictly talk about design and in my view i was not trying to bash another project or claim IOTA is the best/superior to the rest, which is why i started of posting the design section alone. 5. I have no intent in violating the policy of wikipedia or hurt anyone's feelings, all I was trying to is to get the right information about a project that I like and support. 6. Sock puppet nature- What I posted again is definitely is similar to previous posts, however there is no other version of truth to the design of the IOTA project, the data/information about it will be the same for the rest of its future. In this scenario, no matter who tries to capture the right information, the data will be the same. I believe we will be stuck in this loop. I would appreciate your inputs as to how we can get out of it, any examples would be great too. I would really appreciate/like to hear your recommendations on how to get this info there.

Decline reason:

Wikipedia is NOT the place to promote or advertise your business. Using multiple accounts, as was done here to circumvent Wikipedia policy is even more of a reason to decline this block. RickinBaltimore (talk) 12:47, 23 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

  • I have a simple question- The content that I was trying to upload was purely about the design of IOTA, if talking about the design alone constitutes promotion of IOTA, am not sure what more information about the project can be provided that is acceptable and conform to the rules. Please advise and I do respect the decision of the mods here. If I knew a criteria about this, given the nature of the subject(Cryptocurrency/relatively new project) it would be of great help to everyone.
I've moved your question out from inside the declined unblock request, as nobody will see it there. You're unlikely to get much response anyway, as your access to this talk page is essentially for you to appeal your block. To do that you would need to address the abuse of multiple accounts in which you were engaging, and it's unlikely anyone will want to help you with anything else if you do not do that. • I do not have any relationship with any other accounts, I was just trying to help with getting the information out there after seeing the revision history and learning that Wikipedia did not have much content on IOTA. Lokesh1699 (talk) 13:29, 23 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
You are welcome to make a new unblock request, and another admin might believe you - but I don't. Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 13:57, 23 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

I am not a sock puppet am not trying to post illegitimate content either, I would kindly request the stance be reviewed, and I sincerely do want to capture information about IOTA alone, not promote it whatsoever Lokesh1699 (talk) 14:43, 23 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

As has been pointed out by others both above and below, there is more than enough evidence to block you on other bases besides sock puppetry. It is clear that you have not been, and will not be, an asset to this project.--Bbb23 (talk) 02:05, 24 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • A note. This person could just as well have been indeffed for being here only to promote Iota.
The content this person was trying to add was exactly "illegitimate" and their goal to come here to "get the information about the design captured" is 100% the wrong idea.
Their unblock request displays no effort to understand WP or any inkling that they don't understand WP - not what we do here or how we do it. All of these people who have swarmed WP say they "just" want to "document" Iota in WP. This is utter bullshit. They want an en-WP article to make Iota more visible and to make Iota seem more legitimate, and almost none of them have done anything to show that they care about Wikipedia.
Please do not unblock until this person a) gives some substantial signal that they understand what we do here and b) that their approach has been pure advocacy and abuse of their editing privileges and c) they will change their behavior. Jytdog (talk) 23:23, 23 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
If it's not sock puppetry it's meat puppetry. And if it's neither of those it's copying text from one website to another. There is no other explanation for the same exact text being requested from two different people. There is no way to AGF here with such a blatant thing. --Tarage (talk) 23:37, 23 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I would like to know what's so wrong in copying content, given there is no copyright concerns. if it's not the right information,I would sincerely like the admins to refute the information I tried positing about the design instead of calling it illegitimate, now the whole page is deleted too?? You are not engaging with how legitimate content is generated in Wikipedia. You were given our standard welcome message above, and I provided a note with yet more information to you just below that. You give no sign, at all, of having stopped and read it, or any sign of engaging with the policies and guidelines that govern WP.
Wikipedia is open but it is not without a "rule of law".
You and your compatriots just keep trying to shovel whatever garbage you want into WP. You don't care about WP, you care about Iota.
It is the same thing that people who work for some pharma company do, or some political party, or some entertainer. It rapacious and ugly. It pollutes our beautiful project.
So shut up, and read the welcome message and the message below it and try to learn what we do here, and how we do it. As they say in the software world Read the fucking manual. Jytdog (talk) 00:01, 24 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
