Internet security awareness article
[edit]Hi. I noticed that some of your additions to the Internet security awareness were copied verbatim from the CISA website. When you're contributing to Wikipedia, you should make sure that everything is written in your own words. In this case, it probably isn't a copyright violation, because everything created by the US federal government is copyright free, but that isn't true for most sources. And when you do this, you should at least indicate in your edit summary that you are taking content verbatim from a US federal government website.
From a class assignment perspective, this may still be considered plagiarism, even if it doesn't infringe copyright. Ian (Wiki Ed) (talk) 15:42, 13 September 2024 (UTC)

- What you described was my reasoning, I did mention in my editing comments (not the edit itself) that CISA is an American Governmental agency and that the text, with the direct citation provided, came from their website verbatim. Apologies, I was under the impression that done in such way, it was acceptable. I removed the whole text that composed my edit, will reformulate and reedit at a later time. - Hey Ian,
- I added 2 entries ("Scareware" and "Federal Government Cybersecurity Awareness Month") to the article I am working on. I linked the "Scareware" word to the official Wikiepodia page, the font seems to be lighter despite the fact that it works correctly. All text were of my own wording. - While not legally a copyright violation, the way you did it does not comply with Wikipedia's policies on copyright. See Wikipedia:Plagiarism#Public-domain sources; it is important that you acknowledge not only the source of the text, but the fact that you copied it. This is most conveniently done with an attribution template (in this case, Template:Source-attribution). —Compassionate727 (T·C) 21:20, 13 September 2024 (UTC)
