Welcome!

Hello, Lifespan9, and welcome to Wikipedia! This is one of the most popular websites in the world, and it's only through the contributions of editors like you. And Wikipedia is not just a collection of articles, it's an active community. The real fun here is contributing to Wikipedia, but don't feel hurt if some of your first few edits get removed, as there are some central guidelines you may not be familiar with.

Some good advice: be bold in your editing, and use the talk pages to discuss with other editors. Be kind to others, because there's a lot you can learn from them, and there's lots they can help you with.

There's lots of resources to help you become a great editor, from our basic introduction to our in-depth manual. But if you have any questions or problems, no matter what they are, leave me a message on my talk page. Or, you can just type {{helpme}} on this page, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. And if you haven't done so, tell us a bit about yourself. If you need some help, visit the Teahouse Q&A board. Oh, and please sign your name on talk pages and votes by typing ~~~~; our software automatically converts it to your username and the date.

Glad you're here! George Ho (talk) 18:19, 24 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks George Ho . I'm having a rough time of it but I'm a tough cookie!
Lifespan9 (talk) 18:40, 24 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Question? George Ho I don't want to be a cry baby. But, I'm really not sure why Hullaballoo Wolfowitz is coming down so hard on me. I'm trying to abide by wiki rules & practices but he's making it very difficult. Is this some sort of wiki boot camp for newbies?
Thanks for any help in advance!

Help

[edit]

I need to know if the edits I made to the article Jessicka here [1] are resources from independent authors and third-party publications?

Are Art Slant,[2] Juxtapoz,[3] Supahcute,[4] Coagula Art Journal, [5] & Hi- Fructose [6] all reputable 3rd party Art sources? If so can my edits be left on the article Jessicka

Thank you Lifespan9 (talk) 20:08, 24 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Those all look good to me. By the way, you only need to use one {{Help me}} template; using any others doesn't alert us to your request any faster. Robert Skyhawk (T C) 23:21, 24 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Good to know! Thank you Robert Skyhawk

Help

[edit]

I need some help. I need a neutral 3rd part to resolve an editing issue here with Hullaballoo Wolfowitz here --> Jessicka

"Art Slant,[7] Juxtapoz,[8][ Supacute,[9] Coagula Art Journal, [10] & Hi- Fructose [11] are all reputable 3rd party Art sources. Saying these articles are written by friends is purely speculation on your part. Jessicka's wiki page clearly states that she's an artist. Listing past art shows with 3rd party references is just like listing the albums she's released as a musician in her discography. Both are wiki relevant & significant"

Thanks! (Lifespan9 (talk))

I have contacted WP:BLPN. Since you are a newbie, I must give you a fair welcome with some considerations. By the way, do not anything yet other than post your messages here or in my talk page until you read something, like WP:NEWBIE. --George Ho (talk) 18:09, 24 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! Reading WP:NEWBIE now. I'm a quick learner.

Your recent edits

[edit]

Hello. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. You could also click on the signature button or located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when they said it. Thank you. --SineBot (talk) 17:34, 24 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I thought I had done that?

Thanks! Lifespan9 (talk) 18:28, 24 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Here's the WP:CANVASS. Seriously, people would consider your edits canvassing. Be careful, just in case. --George Ho (talk) 19:29, 24 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I will. I was only looking for help. I got bad wiki-advice. My bad. Honestly, I am a bit freaked out by all of this wiki Hullaballoo drama. If he continues to edit everything I edit? What do I do?Would that mean he's wiki stalking me? Do I just ignore him?
Lifespan9 (talk) 23:51, 24 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Before discussing the Hullaballoo situation, I must ask you some things: have you used any other Wiki-accounts, including IPs? Even if not, remember that using more than one account would be a risk of sockpuppetry, and there are no excuses for that. Some people would accuse you of manipulating, but I hope this is not an intent. However, for now let's stay out of Jessicka for a while. By the way, I believe that you can use only one account and no other in the future, especially if you are proven to be a sockpuppet. But I hope you are not; seems to me that you need help. --George Ho (talk) 00:02, 25 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

As for the Hulla part, just ignore him, even if he would. Also, how do you know the word, "wiki stalking"? Anyway, try to ignore him. Let me know if you need my help, especially at your limited abilities to edit. By the way, how are your communication skills? --George Ho (talk) 00:13, 25 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not a sockpuppet. I have never had another Wiki- account. I have lived in a house where people have had Wiki- accounts. Full disclosurel, I was editing Jessicka under this IP address 2012‎ 24.199.56.74 starting May 17th. I thought that was apparently obvious, but I guess not. I did not understand wikipedia. I had a friend teach me a few things (showing me how to ref link) and then created my user name. Clearly, I had no idea. This is my account. It's the only one I use. For my future editing I'd like to focus on chefs and cooking but I'm truly scared to make another edit before clearing all of this up.
Lifespan9 (talk) 00:30, 25 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
"wiki stalking" I'm not kidding, I thought I was being funny and just made it up. But perhaps I'd heard it through a friend and just forgot, you know how that goes. I have A LOT to learn. I think I'm a very good communicator in person but it's becoming more clear to me that in type and online I don't come off so great. Also, Thanks for all of your help George. Most people wouldn't bother.

Vandalism warning

[edit]

Please do not remove content or templates from pages on Wikipedia, as you did to My Ruin, without giving a valid reason for the removal in the edit summary. Your content removal does not appear constructive and has been reverted. Please make use of the sandbox if you'd like to experiment with test edits. Thank you. Hullaballoo Wolfowitz (talk) 18:03, 24 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I simply removed puffery.

I apologize. It seemed like puffery to me. You should have a look at the page considering you seem to be more knowledgable about what should & shouldn't be here. I'm waiting for a neutral 3rd party to resolve our editing issue with the Jessicka art show section. Thanks, (Lifespan9 (talk))

No, you're not. You're one of the little coven from buzznet who periodically shows up here to turn the Wikipedia pages for your favorite niche (at best) performers into a bloated fan page. If you're not just a sockpuppet of Swancookie, you're doing your best to imitate them, right down to the transparent sham of finding editors who've been on opposite sides of editing disputes from me and appealing to them as "neutral third parties". Hasn't worked before, won't work this time. Stop wasting everybody's time. Hullaballoo Wolfowitz (talk) 18:14, 24 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
In good faith I assure you, I'm not part of said "coven". I don't even know what buzznet is? I apologize that you have trust issues and I think I'm somebody I'm not. I was finding editors who were familiar with the article Jessicka. If you look I also searched out editors who had nothing to do with the article Jessicka. Those would be the "neutral third parties" I was trying to get help resolve our editing dispute.
I'm not really sure what your issue is? It is very clear you have a conflict of interest with the Jessicka article. Don't you think we should both ask for a 3rd party to have a look at it just to be fair? May I kindly remind you to be kind to others. [12] Are you exempt from this rule?
I want to be a constructive editor. I'm not sure why you are giving me such a hard time?
Best,
Lifespan9 (talk) 18:33, 24 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Out of curiosity, Swancookie (talk · contribs) hasn't edited for one year, and I am trying to find proof of sockpuppetry, but there have been no reports from WP:SPI. --George Ho (talk) 18:48, 24 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Quack Quack Quack. IPs showing the same patterns as Swancookie have edited the same articles, and the phony COI claim, repeated above, is the icing on the cake. Don't you recognize just how odd it is for a supposed newbie to turn up, work on the same articles in the same way, try to draw other users into the dispute in the same way, make the same accusations, etc -- especially when one of those IPs matching Swancookie's style morphs into "Lifespan9". Stop aiding and abetting a long-term problem user, George. Hullaballoo Wolfowitz (talk) 18:54, 24 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hulla, if you believe that this is the work of sockpuppetry, and this user is a sockpuppet, why not WP:SPI then? If not, will I fill this out for you? --George Ho (talk) 19:12, 24 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I am not sure if this is against the rules? But I wouldn't mind giving my IP address to help solve this issue. I am new. I'm not sure how to go about proving that fact.
Lifespan9 (talk) 18:53, 24 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Reading this diff, I don't get how this content is "puffery". It has references. What is "puffery"? --George Ho (talk) 18:56, 24 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I have edited 2 articles so far. Two! Can anybody explain to me why it is fine that Hullaballoo Wolfowitz talks to me in this manner? Please do whatever you have to do to stop Hullaballoo Wolfowitz from harassing me. I stated this on his talk page but he deleted it. My intention is not to cause trouble. I intend to abide by all wiki guidelines and policies. I am a nice person. I think everybody should be kind to others. [13]. All ask is that we settle all of this fairly by any means necessary.
definition of PUFFERY : exaggerated commendation especially for promotional purposes : hype - I accidentally removed the wrong section on the My Ruin article. My mistake, as I am still learning. I was told by others in my writing class that wikipedia was run by a bunch of bullies. I choose not to believe this. Like I said before, I'm tough. I can take more constructive criticism than most people. Thank you for welcoming me George Ho. All I ask is to be given a chance. If Hullaballoo Wolfowitz tried to mentor me rather then accuse me, I might possibly become a good editor here.
Lifespan9 (talk) 19:56, 24 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Getting to know you

[edit]

Just ignore Hullaballoo if you can no longer find ways to deal with that person any longer. I wonder if you have read WP:NOT? You said "writing class". In what school are you attending? You can give me "high school", not an exact name. What are your interests? Why doing edits Jessicka and My Ruin? I hope you are not solely affiliated with these subjects, since Hulla thinks more communication is a waste of time. --George Ho (talk) 20:20, 24 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. I have not read WP:NOT. I shall today after work. There seems to be a lot that I need to be reading before I make future edits. It is a tad bit overwhelming. I am in a writing class. I am no longer in school. I thought perhaps editing on wikipedia might help me hone my skills. Until last year, I was working at the World of Wonder (production company). I'll try to stay away from any LGBT articles even though I know a lot about that company and Logo (TV channel). I love female fronted bands (why I edited Jessicka & My Ruin), Joan Jett, lowbrow art, American female poets especially Elizabeth Margaret Chandler, cooking, all that things that are related to Julia Child or Cat Cora, Harajuku fashion and fennec foxes. Currently, I'm obsessed with both food and travel. I work for a small restaurant but my dream is to write professionally traveling the globe interviewing chefs in different exotic locations for the Travel_Channel or the Food Network.
What brings you to wikipedia? If you don't mind me asking, George Ho? Please excuse the brevity of this exchange, I'm off to work.
Best,
Lifespan9 (talk) 20:47, 24 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Grrrr, still making editing mistakes even in my own work! I apologize for all of the edits.
Lifespan9 (talk)
On the other hand, if Hullaballoo is still accusing you for sockpuppetry, try Wikipedia:Wikiquette assistance then. --George Ho (talk) 22:27, 24 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, I didn't see this. Most appreciated.

Regarding adoption

[edit]

Hi Lifespan9. I've removed the "request for adoption" from your userpage because you've not edited recently. Given the number of users starting on the encyclopedia each day and the number who look for adoption, there can often be a backlog when just displaying the request. You are much more likely to find an adopter if you are pro-active about it, perhaps asking an editor or two from the list of adopters if they would consider adopting you? Good luck in finding someone to help out. WormTT(talk) 09:49, 19 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
