This is my first article about life settlements companies or the industry. I have a plethora of material to document and cite, however I cannot find where to do so. Can someone assist me or point me in the right direction? LifeSettlementGuru (talk) 23:58, 26 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I left a message on your talk page; I am happy to help with citations. This article needs secondary sources to show the subject company is notable. VQuakr (talk) 23:30, 27 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I tagged a sentence in the Viatical Settlements section as disputed; it states that that Life settlements are "lucrative" for seniors. The source quoted immediately afterwards does not really support that claim; the Wharton research paper cited is more about the effects of an open-marked system on the life insurance industry than its effect on seniors.

Even if the Wharton paper did directly support the statement, the cited paper is a working draft of a research paper, not a published paper in a peer reviewed format. It was also written in 2002, which is relevant since it notes the secondary housing market as a comparable system to the Life settlement market (a perspective that might have changed the report's conclusions after the housing market collapse.

Since this is a relatively minor issue relative to the notability concerns, let's focus on finding secondary sources about this company before working out any POV questions. Regards! VQuakr (talk) 23:30, 27 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Alright, do you suggest just googling them some more and finding sites like that? I am still confused on how to find out if a topic is notable. I wanted to begin allowing people to know about legitimate life settlement companies out there because of a personal instance with my grandmother. started with A, and this is what I recieved besides Autumn Life Settlements. I believe all seniors should know about this industry and the important actors.
Is that a conflict of interest would you say? LifeSettlementGuru (talk) 07:34, 28 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Per the general notability guideline, something is notable if it has received significant coverage in reliable secondary sources. This is also a practical requirement, because encyclopedic content must be verifiable. You mentioned above that you have a plethora of material; does any of it discuss this company in particular? An no, I would not generally consider having researched a company, or even just being their customer, a conflict of interest. Of course, you are the best judge of whether your feelings on a subject will have undue influence on your editorial decisions. VQuakr (talk) 07:41, 28 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Actually my material is on the industry in general. Not specific to this business company. I guess when I started and wanted to list major companies and credible companies in life settlement market, I didnt realize I would need sources specific to each company. Ill look around some more, but there arent really secondary articles that ive found for most of these companies? LifeSettlementGuru (talk) 17:05, 29 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe it would make sense to WP:USERFY this page so you can use it for your other articles, and write about a related topic (such as the settlements in general) that meets the notability guidelines? VQuakr (talk) 20:11, 29 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
