Discordianism

[edit]

I noticed that you tried to make an addition to the Discordianism talk page, but you accidentally made the edit to the talk page of a nonexistent subpage. You have a good point there; if you add it to the right page, you might get a better response. Or at least some response. Or maybe no response. Who knows? -- Bigwyrm 05:42, 12 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

As you may already be aware, Category:Psuedoreligionist Wikipedians and its subcategories, Category:Discordian Wikipedians, Category:Flying Spaghetti Monsterist Wikipedians, Category:SubGenius Wikipedians, and others, have been deleted. That deletion is now up for review. If you have anything you'd like to say on the subject, now is the time. If you know of any other editors who might have something to say on the subject, pass the word. License tagging for Image:VA logo.JPG

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:VA logo.JPG. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 02:08, 27 July 2007 (UTC) I hope I made the correct changes, by adding the correct Tag.--Libertyguy 04:23, 27 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Spite

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Spite (punk band), requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. YeLLeY511 04:54, 31 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Spite (punk band)

[edit]

A {{prod}} template has been added to the article Spite (punk band), suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice explains why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you endorse deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please tag it with {{db-author}}. YeLLeY511 05:06, 31 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Spite (punk band) and Scott Boman

[edit]

I noticed you deleted my tags once again- according to Wiki policy you really shouldn't do that. When creating an article you should begin it either in your sandbox or on your own computer, that way when you create the page it doesnt automatically get deleted. Both of those pages still seem non-notable, but just because I do not know who they are doesn't mean they aren't. They still may qualify for deletion under WP:NN. I have a wikify tag on them based on the fact that you have MANY external links throughout both articles, which does not comply to wiki standards. Please read WP:CITE to view the proper way to cite and reference your article. Where your external links seem to be appears that you were trying to cite, so it should be relatively easy to change those external links into footnotes, therefore wikifying the article. -YeLLeY511 13:53, 31 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Spite (punk band)

[edit]

I agree with the above comment from "YeLLeY511" about the need to improve citations. However I have removed the deletion template because the article's subject matter met with Wikipedia standards for subject, as the above user noted. It complies with Notability guideline (Criteria for musicians and ensembles #6): "Contains at least one member who was once a part of or later joined a band that is otherwise notable..." Nevertheless, there is much work to be done as far as the structure of the article itself. I found, and removed, a couple of redundant links. Citations could be formatted in a manner that is more pleasing to the eye. In some places you have included so many references that it seems superfluous.--Kzooman 16:00, 31 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Repost of Carl Oehling

[edit]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Carl Oehling, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Carl Oehling was previously deleted as a result of an articles for deletion (or another XfD)

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Carl Oehling, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. Hi, Libertyguy, welcome to the Article Rescue Squadron! We are a growing community of Wikipedia editors dedicated to identifying and rescuing articles that have been tagged for deletion. Every day hundreds of articles are deleted, many rightfully so. But many concern notable subjects and are poorly written, ergo fixable and should not be deleted. We try to help these articles quickly improve and address the concerns of why they are proposed for deletion. This covers a lot of ground and your help is appreciated!

File permission problem with File:Crazed Boman.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Crazed Boman.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. MBisanz talk 01:22, 16 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

There is no copyright to be infringed here. The point is moot since it has since been deleted, and it would be more trouble than it is worth to restore. I have uploaded an original work as public domain, to serve the same purpose. While I have shared it elsewhere, there is no copyright associated with it.--Libertyguy (talk) 16:33, 3 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image File:Lp logo cut.jpg

[edit]
⚠

Thanks for uploading File:Lp logo cut.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Courcelles 05:12, 22 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

United States House of Representatives elections in Michigan, 2016

[edit]

Your edits to the United States House of Representatives elections in Michigan, 2016 article have been reverted because self-promotion is not allowed. Edits to this article must be backed by official government or journalistic citations. Steelbeard1 (talk) 17:07, 6 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

This edit removed content that was backed by governmental sources. The FEC is a governmental source. I assume you are implying that those referenced by the Libertarian Party of Michigan, were examples of "self-promotion." It would seem that a political party would be a reliable source of which candidates it nominated, though they would be biased on matters of a candidates qualifications. So that alone isn't "self promotion." Where would a journalist go to find out who a party nominated? Their source would need to be the candidate, the government, or the party. The FEC or Secretary of State bases its listings on information provided by candidates or parties, so if the party is not a reliable source, then the government and journalists aren't either since they are only publishing fruit from the poison tree.
I am not interested in an unnecessary debate over this. I will be restoring the information with governmental or journalistic sources. Some of the content you removed was backed by such sources, I hope you won't revert them again, and I will assume the removal of those governmentally backed edits was an oversight done in good faith. --Libertyguy (talk) 16:56, 10 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I looked up the Wikipedian meaning of "self-promotion" and found your use of the phrase to be inappropriate. Using a source that is deemed to be unreliable, or using the website of an organization as a source of information about that organization is not necessarily "self-pomotion." Under Ten_Simple_Rules_for_Editing, the phrase is used to describe an editor writing about him or her self. I am not an agent of the Libertarian Party of Michigan and was not using the website as a source in order to promote that party; I was just using it as a source. Seeking to improve the accuracy of an article about an election, by including the candidates that a party nominated doesn't make me an agent of that party. I am interested in that party and like writing about it and its candidates. Wikipedians write about topics that interest them. Libertarians interest me.--Libertyguy (talk) 19:03, 10 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Managing a conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, Libertyguy. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about in the page Scott Boman, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Also please note that editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. If I find you backing up your buddies again like this, where you are clearly proteges with conflicts of interest. I will block you. You have been given warnings about promotion and that is the crux of your editing here. You have conflicts of interest going on here. Also, see meatpuppetry and canvassing so that you will steer clear of them.

Information icon Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give Tanis (fossil site) a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into another page with a different name. This is known as a "cut-and-paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page (the tab may be hidden in a dropdown menu for you). This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Requests for history merge. Thank you. Hello! Voting in the 2023 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 11 December 2023. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2023 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:26, 28 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
