Copying text from one Wikipedia article to another
[edit]Hi Lgstoves, welcome to Wikipedia. Just a very small point. If you're copying text from one wikipedia article to another (e.g. [1]) it is helpful to indicate in the edit summary which article you've taken the text from (e.g. [2]). If you're so minded, please read this for more details. All the best, FiachraByrne (talk) 13:20, 5 December 2013 (UTC)
FiachraByrne Thanks. It is not complete yet. I am doing this for a class grade and I am still editing things down.
- As I said on my talk page, if you would like assistance in locating sources or whatever I may be in a position to help. If you're copying text from one wikipedia article to put into another it's important to indicate to other editors, via the edit summary, the source of the text. This can't be done after you complete your assignment but has to be done during the editing process. Please ensure you read the link and example I provided above on this point. It might be no harm to post on the talkpage of the article ([Talk:History of psychiatric institutions]) that you're engaged in student editing, just to alert other editors.
- Although it's not an issue for me really, I'd think you probably shouldn't be plagiarising text for an assignment you're going to be graded on. As this is plagiarisation of existing WP content, rather than other published sources not in the public domain, there's no issue of copyright violation. Do you mind me asking if the course you're doing is listed here and if so, which one is it? If not, can you tell me if there are likely to be many other students editing in this or related topics from your course? Good luck with the assignment.
