Doing some close reading and may have spotted an ambiguity for the terms perigee and apogee in the following sentence:

"The changing distance separating the Moon and Earth also affects tide heights. When the Moon is at perigee the range increases, and when it is at apogee the range shrinks."

Since perigee is when the earth-moon distance is minimum, the tidal force is maximum and tidal height variation is greatest. As it is above, "range" could refer to either tide height range, or moon-earth distance range. Initially, I understood the latter, which would be incorrect.

Let's change to "The changing distance separating the Moon and Earth also affects tide heights. When the Moon is at perigee the tidal range increases, and when it is at apogee the tidal range shrinks." Quocunque (talk) 01:29, 30 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
