This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without good reason (see the blocking policy).

Request reason:

I'm not sure why I've been blocked as there the reason given is not true. This is for a school project and I need to edit the information in my sandbox in order to carry on with it. Thank You.

Decline reason:

Procedural decline only; this account is not directly blocked. If you are unable to edit, please exactly follow the instructions which appear when you attempt to do so. Note that we don't care about your school project, only whether you are constructively contributing to Wikipedia (which you aren't, though that's okay because it looks like you might in the future). If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

@Yamla: Thanks for replying to this user's request. Was it wise to use that particular template, though? Due to some misunderstanding, this new user thought they were blocked. Though the substance of your message explains that they're not, the first line of the template reads, in bold, "This blocked user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request." Thus you may be inadvertently reinforcing the misunderstanding. Imagine being a user of an unfamiliar system, getting the impression somehow that you're blocked from editing, then getting that message from an administrator. Not a criticism of your message, just of how it was given. Cheers, MartinPoulter (talk) 15:45, 27 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@MartinPoulter: The alternative is to use the "accepted" version, which incorrectly indicates the block has been lifted. Neither are great options. Honest question, which do you think is better in a situation like this? Note that it's very likely they'd still be unable to edit, after I reviewed their request. --Yamla (talk) 16:30, 27 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Yamla: Apologies for a dumb question from a non-admin, but are you forced to give the message in the form of a template? I use Twinkle so I have a repertoire of templated messages, but when it's a more complicated situation I post a personal message. I don't know how it works with the unblock review process. MartinPoulter (talk) 17:37, 27 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Well, there's nothing stopping one from doing so, except custom. Every valid unblock request I've seen, the admin responds using on-hold, accepted, or declined. However, you do indicate there's perhaps a need for another option. 'Need more info' or something. --Yamla (talk) 17:53, 27 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
