I don't hate you Leebo, I don’t even know you. I surely don't understand you or the likes of persons like Ruhrfisch. You both operate so much alike I was sure you must be one and the same, my mistake. I have expressed my feelings about both your actions and presence here in cyberspace, no need to reiterate. I have come to the conclusion that clearly, I do not belong here, so I have decided to move on and will express myself where my efforts are welcome. I do, in a small way, feel driven out, but to remain here just to butt heads with Wikipedia bureaucrats does not appeal to me. The payback does not warrant the effort,I have bigger fish to fry.I know, time will change and mature you, perhaps then, you will think back to this time, and, perhaps, understand that crazy Ailde. So Pass along my good wishes to Ruhrfisch ><>°°, and good bye and good luck. Ailde (talk) 11:35, 10 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Jobs of Admins

[edit]

Hi..I had posted a message before trying to contact an Admin to find out more information for my english paper. I have some questions and if you would be willing to answer them they would help me alot for my paper.

1. What are your jobs as an Admin? 2. Do you get any pay for the time you put into Wikipedia? 3. How often/ how many hours do you spend on Wikipedia editing? 4. How many admins are their in the English Wikipedia? 5. What makes you want to contribute to Wikipedia?

Thank you for your help 129.89.207.244 18:14, 24 October 2007 (UTC)English Student[reply]

  1. I want to start by saying that all contributors are volunteers at Wikipedia. Everyone, from the person who makes a single spelling correction to administrators, bureaucrats, and arbitration committee members. There are various tasks that administrators are trusted to perform, but they’re all volunteers, so they are not bound to do them regularly or even at all. The status of administrator is given to users who can be trusted not to misuse the tools that are necessary to keep the encyclopedia running, but there’s no requirement to use them. The tasks that administrators can perform include deleting pages, blocking users, protecting pages, and undoing any of those actions as necessary. These are all tasks that provide an opportunity for abuse, which is why only trusted users are given the ability to perform them. Users are confirmed for administrator status at requests for adminship. Most tasks that administrators perform relate to behind-the-scenes janitorial work that most readers and visitors to Wikipedia will never notice. Administrators evaluate consensus in discussions, such as at articles for deletion, but they are not mediators responsible for handling user disputes. When evaluating discussions, they are expected to assess the community’s arguments, not make their own judgment on the issue at hand. Some very specific types of deletion are permitted without consensus, and these are defined by the criteria for speedy deletion. In the end, administrators are simply regular Wikipedians who help the project run smoothly.
  2. As stated before, Wikipedians are volunteers, so no one receives compensation for work contributed to Wikipedia. This includes those with permission to perform administrative tasks.
  3. Personally, I am active just about every day of the week, though slightly less active on the weekends. I spend several hours a day at Wikipedia, and this includes time spent reading articles. I’ve made 8570 edits since late December 2006, which comes out to about 28.3 edits per day.
  4. As of October 24, 2007, there are 1360 users with administrator rights with 10 being evaluated for administrator status at Requests for adminship.
  5. I started contributing because I liked reading Wikipedia articles and I got interested in how they were written. While delving into the contribution process I read a lot of policy pages and learned a lot about the internal mechanisms at Wikipedia. My first edit was to a deletion discussion, which is a little rare I suppose; most users start as content contributors. I have started some articles, as you can see on my user page, but my main focus has typically been preventing vandalism to existing articles and having administrator tools makes that task easier. I learn a lot by reading Wikipedia, so spending time keeping it vandalism free fits hand-in-hand with that. Leebo T/C 18:56, 24 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I am actually fairly happy with the bulk of the write up - I think its okay??? Apart from additional info I am gathering that I will add which will be minor edits.

You mentioned that you could help me format it. In between my computer going wonky I have been trying to work out how I should add those references and others you found. Should they be links next to the note saying 'citation here' of at the bottom with general links?

Also could not find the tool to put the picture box to the upper right that I have seen on other pages. Is it me or is there alot of info to take on board at first??!!Cosy jo 03:39, 27 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Buick supercharged 3.6 V-6 motor

[edit]

I have been told that one can operate the Supercharged version of the 3.8 Buick V-6 without the supercharger, but I'm trying to clarify whether that means simply removing the accessories (fan) belt and installing the smaller normally aspirated motor's shorter belt to bypass the supercharger, or if the entire supercharger must be removed which would mean replacing the intake manifold as well with a traditional (plastic) intake. I really would prefer the simpler solution, for both the durability of the iron intake vs. a plactic one (associated with overheating leaks etc.), and with the better fuel economy of bypassing the supercharger, if you know then please respond. Also, I just want to be sure that if I bypass the supercharger, that I will not be harming the motor. I understand that the motor will make less power, about 20 or so less horsepower, but my main concern is increasing the economy and durability & longevity of the motor.JoJoDynamo 19:00, 29 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Gathering of Gamers is directly related, Gamernode is as well... suggest you categorize entries instead of deletions, censorship is not right!

I have seen on them references and topics related, including citations back to GameFAQs. These are similar in relation with Gamernode or the secondary entry.

There are many cases where similar are justified and helpful to Wiki users. Personally, having those kinds of entries help out a great deal for people doing research, like perhaps finding all of the aspects of Gamer's in a social context or perhaps in a news context that the main article direction has little to inform the Wiki user directly. By providing an outlet of related or similar, the topic gets expanded for these users.

Please do not censor me any more. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Agencius (talkcontribs) 16:04, 5 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Editing correctly?

[edit]

Hi There, I recently made some edits to some aspects of the Dolphinarium article and I just noticed that many, but not all, of them have been removed. This included a link from the words "Marine Mammal Protection Act" to a government document with the actual text of that law. Do you know if my edits are being removed by someone at Wikipedia because I am not following the appropriate rules, or is it just another Wikipedia user who has chosen to edit my edits?

Thank you,

Terranr 17:31, 5 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I've stumbled upon your question, so I'll try to answer it in Leebo's place. First, it is important to understand that there are very few people with official, paid positions at the Wikimedia foundation (what you have called "someone at Wikipedia"). They generally do not bother themselves with the actual content of the articles - all editing you will see is done by Wikipedia users, also known as editors or Wikipedians. So for your explicit question, the answer is the latter.
To understand who reverted your edits and why, you can click the "history" tab at the top of the Dolphinarium article, which will lead you to the article's history page. There, you can see that User:BabyNuke has reverted your latest edit, and his reasons were:
  • Links to pages outside of Wikipedia ("external links") are discouraged in the main body of the article, and
  • This paritcular topic was already linked earlier in the article, and linking every concept in every single occurance is discouraged.
If you still feel your edit should remain, you can discuss it at Talk:Dolphinarium, or if this fails (lack of interest by others, etc), at the other party's talk page (in this case User Talk:BabyNuke).
I hope this helps. -- Meni Rosenfeld (talk) 22:25, 5 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

thank you for helping. I'm trying to reach the person that denied my article but it said i need to be logged in or something(in which i was). I see you are a yankee fan. Me too. European music groups

[edit]

Sorry, it took me some time to notice your messages since I'm not a very experienced user of this site. But I think it would be good to be able to see musical groups from all European countries with one glance, without needing to check trough the numerous invididual national listings one by one. Thus, I think it would be good if bands could be added to both the national and European categories. Although I hope there would be a better way to do it than adding every band invididually, which is quite slow to do.

You are correct that the reference link is no longer working, but that doesn't make the reference itself invalid. But you are also changing the wording of the content without an explanation. Leebo T/C 15:45, 15 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This is clearly administrator abuse.

1. Admin is mad at a checkuser request. Blocks the person. Then uses the excuse that the person is already blocked so no checkuser should be run. A very convincing and specious argument. 2. Admin then page protects the user's talk page so the user can never ask for unblock by uninvolved admin. 3. Complaint appears on ANI so the admin deletes the ANI post and blocks the person who made the edit AND page protects their user page so they can't seek unblock. 4. Admin then calls the complainer a sock of the person that the RFCU was filed against! By calling him a sock, that's a guarantee that nobody will look further.

I saw the ANI then saw it disappear causing me to investigate.

I have a suspicion that the admin is the sock and doesn't want the RFCU run.

I'm a deadman for telling you this. That's what wikipedia is becoming. Do the right thing and be killed (like the others I saw). Jeske needs to be de-sysoped. Democratic Primaries polling map

[edit]

Hi Leebo. Anymore, I just let other people do what they want with the geographically accurate map. I have updated it sometimes when it was outdated or people were being too ridiculous. The de facto rule for that map is whoever is ahead in the most recent poll, by however much, instantly gets the whole state colored for him or her. Obviously this leads to constant arguments about which polls to trust and how to define most recent. This, and the fact that no Democratic races are winner-take-all, lead me to create the delegate proportional map. There were also requests for a proportional map on the discussion page.

What I do is take all the polls from a given time period (within the past 7-10 days or so) and combine them. I weight the poll by the number of people sampled. For example, if one poll of 50 people showed 40% liked apples better than oranges and another poll of 100 people showed 80% liked apples better than oranges, I would say 20+80/150=67%, not 40%+80%/2=60% like apples batter than oranges. You are probably right that this is original research. What am I to do?

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Strikewitches.PNG)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Strikewitches.PNG. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.

Suspension of admin privileges due to inactivity

[edit]

Following a community discussion in June 2011, consensus was reached to provisionally suspend the administrative privileges of users who have been inactive for one year, meaning administrators who have made neither any edits nor any logged actions in over one year. As a result of this discussion, your administrative privileges have been removed pending your return. If you wish to have these privileges reinstated, please post to the Wikipedia:Bureaucrats' noticeboard and the userright will be restored per the re-sysopping process (i.e., as long as the attending bureaucrats are reasonably satisfied that your account has not been compromised and that your inactivity did not have the effect of evading scrutiny of any actions which might have led to sanctions). This removal of access is procedural only, and not intended to reflect negatively upon you in any way. We wish you the best in future endeavors, and thank you for your past administrative efforts. RL0919 (talk) 21:47, 9 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The article Tom Griffith has been proposed for deletion because, under Wikipedia policy, all newly created biographies of living persons must have at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within ten days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. Notice of change

[edit]

Hello. You are receiving this message because of a recent change to the administrator policy that alters what you were told at the time of your desysopping. The effect of the change is that you will not longer be able to request restoration of the tools because of your prior inactivity. You have until December 30, 2012 to request restoration or else the policy will prevent you from doing so in the future; you would need to seek a new WP:RFA. Until December 30, you can file a request at WP:BN for review by the crats. Thank you. MBisanz talk 04:22, 3 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I created COPYMOTION - DARINO XEROX ANIMATION

I understand I can change it after 4 days. What I want is to have COPYMOTION as main title and DARINO XEROX ANIMATION underneath, as a subtitle. ( will this be found on a search? I could link it to Mr Darino's bio ) Since it is my first contribution your answer will clarify my doubts. The errors are gone.

Hope is all ok. Bob BobMillerSr (talk) 19:58, 30 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Adrianne Wadewitz Memorial edit-a-thons

[edit]
Adrianne Wadewitz edit-a-thons in Southern New England

As you may have already heard, the Wikipedia community lost an invaluable member of the community last month. Adrianne Wadewitz was a feminist scholar of 18th-Century British literature, and a prolific editor of the site. As part of a worldwide series of tributes, New England Wikimedians, in conjunction with local institutions of higher learning, have created three edit-a-thons that will be occurring in May and June. The events are as follows:

We hope that you will be able to join us, whether you are an experienced editor or are using Wikipedia for the first time.

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
