Administrators' newsletter – May 2024
News and updates for administrators from the past month (April 2024).
- Phase I of the 2024 requests for adminship review has concluded. Several proposals have passed outright and will proceed to implementation, including creating a discussion-only period (3b) and administrator elections (13) on a trial basis. Other successful proposals, such as creating a reminder of civility norms (2), will undergo further refinement in Phase II. Proposals passed on a trial basis will be discussed in Phase II, after their trials conclude. Further details on specific proposals can be found in the full report.
- Partial action blocks are now in effect on the English Wikipedia. This means that administrators have the ability to restrict users from certain actions, including uploading files, moving pages and files, creating new pages, and sending thanks. T280531
- The arbitration case Conflict of interest management has been closed.
- This may be a good time to reach out to potential nominees to ask if they would consider an RfA.
- A New Pages Patrol backlog drive is happening in May 2024 to reduce the number of unreviewed articles in the new pages feed. Currently, there is a backlog of over 15,000 articles awaiting review. Sign up here to participate!
- Voting for the Universal Code of Conduct Coordinating Committee (U4C) election is open until 9 May 2024. Read the voting page on Meta-Wiki and cast your vote here!

Hi there! Phase I of the Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/2024 review has concluded, with several impactful changes gaining community consensus and proceeding to various stages of implementation. Some proposals will be implemented in full outright; others will be discussed at phase II before being implemented; and still others will proceed on a trial basis before being brought to phase II. The following proposals have gained consensus:
- Proposals 2 and 9b (phase II discussion): Add a reminder of civility norms at RfA and Require links for claims of specific policy violations
- Proposal 3b (in trial): Make the first two days discussion-only
- Proposal 13 (in trial): Admin elections
- Proposal 14 (implemented): Suffrage requirements
- Proposals 16 and 16c (phase II discussion): Allow the community to initiate recall RfAs and Community recall process based on dewiki
- Proposal 17 (phase II discussion): Have named Admins/crats to monitor infractions
- Proposal 24 (phase II discussion): Provide better mentoring for becoming an admin and the RfA process
- Proposal 25 (implemented): Require nominees to be extended confirmed
See the project page for a full list of proposals and their outcomes. A huge thank-you to everyone who has participated so far :) looking forward to seeing lots of hard work become a reality in phase II. theleekycauldron (talk), via MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 08:09, 5 May 2024 (UTC)

TFA

Today's TFA, Felix M. Warburg House, was written by Vami_IV and Epicgenius, introduced: "This article is about another of the great houses that once lined Fifth Avenue in New York. Specifically, this is the mansion of Felix M. Warburg, a Jewish financier who ignored fears of anti-Semitic reprisal to his decided to build himself a big Gothic manor in the middle of New York City. Although the Warburgs no longer remain, their legacy does: the museum is now the home of the Jewish Museum (Manhattan) and the building largely survives as they left it. It's a beautiful building and I hope you will all enjoy it."! - in memory --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:06, 10 May 2024 (UTC)

Jacob Fatu again
Hello, Lee. Sorry to bother you (again). The same user appeared again. As you told me, I'm gonna slow down. The problem is, as you saw, several sources reported Jacob Fatu signed with WWE. The user states that, since WWE dind¡t announced it, it's false. Now, he says since Fatu didn't debut in 30 days, it's false (I pointed how other wrestlers like John Morrison and AOP signed months before their return). Also, points that since PWInsider was questioned 10 years ago, it's unreliable. Can you give your toughts, please? At this point, it's impossible to talk with him or make him reason. HHH Pedrigree (talk) 11:26, 11 May 2024 (UTC)
- .Also, sorry to bother you. As you know, I respect your opinion. I would love to use ANI, but I know pro wrestling has an horrible reputation and, most likely, other admins would attack pro wrestler and the articles. --HHH Pedrigree (talk) 11:27, 11 May 2024 (UTC)
- Sorry, am just in the middle of something right now, but I'll take a look in a bit. Could you drop me the link to the convo? Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 11:27, 11 May 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks, don't worry. [1] Here is the user tlak page. [2] [3] As I told you, my concern is the idea of using independent sources, but people removing the information because they want WWE to confirm the information, so there is no point of using independent, third party sources if we need a company to say yes. Also, he has threated to write a report to erase my account several times. --HHH Pedrigree (talk) 11:32, 11 May 2024 (UTC)
- Yeah, I've left a message. As far as I see it - either a source is reliable (and high quality) and we trust it's information, or we don't (yes, there are some cases where we don't trust individual pieces of information, but that so far hasn't been judged in any instance). If we trust PWInsider, which according to our guidelines, we do, then we'd need an equal strength of sourcing to say that it isn't true.
- So, for me, we need to establish again if the source is notable. If it is, the info should be retained, if not, well that's also fine as we won't have the same issue again. Without questioning it, we are in dire straights. Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 12:42, 11 May 2024 (UTC)
- Okey, thanks. It's weird. As I said, I have been in this situation previously. PWinsider reported in the past that John Morrison, Eva Marie and Cody Rhodes signed with WWE. People remove them because "WWE hasn't confirm the information" and, weeks later, they made their return, so I think this would end future discussions around contracts. --HHH Pedrigree (talk) 13:07, 11 May 2024 (UTC)

Hi, Ed! I've been working on the 2007 World Snooker Championship as well, so it would be great if you could have a look at it whenever you have a chance and if you fancy it. Thanks in advance. Alavense (talk) 16:04, 15 May 2024 (UTC)

- cool, cool. I think I'm at about 80% now! I took a look. It basically needs the same copy/edit reordering as I did with 2006, but you've done a fabulous job of putting the prose together, which is the main piece of work with these sorts of articles. When I get a few minutes, I'll go through the article again :). Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 11:00, 18 May 2024 (UTC)

When you have a minute, could you please let me know what the reason was that Paul Guerrero was deleted? Bgsu98 (Talk) 02:50, 19 May 2024 (UTC)
- Oh, so when you go to create a page, it'll tell you. In this case it was deleted as being an attack page. I looked at the content, and it was two sentences of vandalism/attack page. Nothing salvagable. Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 08:54, 19 May 2024 (UTC)

Was there a need to say this? You can't just make up your own rules of engagement. What are you trying to achieve? ILoveSport2006 (talk) 16:15, 23 May 2024 (UTC)
- Hi. I was telling you not to make up your own rules on how consensus works. I thought that was pretty plain. Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 16:16, 23 May 2024 (UTC)
- Stop making snarky comments. What the point of saying I thought that was pretty plain? Say your bit and move on. It's childish. Can't we all speak like adults? ILoveSport2006 (talk) 16:21, 23 May 2024 (UTC)
