Welcome!

Hello, Lazerboy67, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Unfortunately, one or more of the pages you created, such as Jean-Marc Grava, may not conform to some of Wikipedia's guidelines, and may soon be deleted.

There's a page about creating articles you may want to read called Your first article. If you are stuck, and looking for help, please come to the New contributors' help page, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! Or, you can just type helpme on this page, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Here are a few other good links for newcomers:

The article Jean-Marc Grava has been proposed for deletion because under Wikipedia policy, all biographies of living persons created after March 18, 2010, must have at least one source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't take offense. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Wikipedia:Referencing for beginners or ask at Wikipedia:Help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the prod blp tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within ten days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, there is a Manual of Style that should be followed to maintain a consistent, encyclopedic appearance. Using different styles throughout the encyclopedia, as you did in Estha Essombe, makes it harder to read. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. Please be sure to add a space after the period at the end of a sentence. Also your "references" section should be "External links" (not the first letter being capitalized). Speedy deletion of "Ayodele Ikuesan"

[edit]

A page you created, Ayodele Ikuesan, has been tagged for deletion, as it meets one or more of the criteria for speedy deletion; specifically, it is about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how they are important or significant, and thus why they should be included in an encyclopedia. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, and the guidelines for biographies in particular.

You are welcome to contribute content which complies with our content policies and any applicable inclusion guidelines. However, please do not simply re-create the page with the same content. You may also wish to read our introduction to editing and guide to writing your first article.

Thank you.  Velella  Velella Talk   08:42, 13 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Article fixes

[edit]

Wow! You've been very busy. I patrolled your article on Valérie Jean-Charles and noticed there were several things we typically look for in an article. Since you are clearly here to help improve the encyclopedia, I thought I would bring these "behind the scenes" things to your attention. To see what I've done go to the article, click Edit, then look at what has been typed. You can then click Cancel rather than Save Page. I personally keep a wordpad document on the computer with some of the common wikitext I use to copy/paste. Some people have them hidden on their userpage, and I'm sure there are other solutions so you can refer back if needed. Here goes:

  • References should always use the {{'s and citeweb or citebook. There is a drop down box on the editing toolbar that says Cite, you can then fill in the blanks. This allows people to verify information at a later date even if the website becomes defunt. See Wikipedia:Link rot for more info if you like
    • Inline citations are the expected practice. Place the citeweb right after the statement of fact. Then under the References section type Reflist
  • Biographies should always include where the X's are the year. And also if not living. If alive, they should also be marked . In the case where you can't find their year of birth or death use
  • Persondata should always be added below the references and above the DEFAULTSORT
  • Sections should always have the first word capitalized, so References rather than references
  • The talk page should have WikiProjects added. Always WikiProject Biography if it is on a person. Often you also add the country either where they are from, or where they live. And then there is usually a project for why they are famous, ie WikiProject Olympics

P.S. If you weren't aware of WikiProjects you might want to check out Wikipedia:WikiProject France to see what they are about.

Doing all of these things will make your article more polished and leave less work for other editors later. Please take some time to add these pieces to the other articles you have created. I will also try to work through part of them. Please feel free to ask me any questions, whether you want to know how to do something, or why it is done a certain way. And thanks again for all your contributions! --Tbennert (talk) 02:43, 28 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
