I think my notice at the article was clear, but since you had questions about it, I give you a further explanation, As I said , the organization is clearly notable, so this article is worth rewriting, for it is needed at Wikipedia. I was not rejecting it, but sending it back for rewriting.
the section on "Roots of Budda's teaching" was copied. It can be included only as a quote, with the source specified. We do not copy from other web sites, except as short quotations. See WP:Copyright it would further have to be rewritten to be presented as presenting the view of the organization, not a principle of Buddism. If you are going to say that " from its start, been unique among major religions in recognizing the spiritual equality of women and men", you need a quote from a third party reliable source, not the assertion of the organization. You could say for example that "the association holds that Buddhism has been... " similarly, with the statem, ent "There are an estimated 300 million Buddhist women worldwide, including more than 130,000 nuns. Many of these women live in poverty, without adequate opportunities for education or facilities for spiritual practice. Members cooperate to help women develop their potential as scholars, practitioners, teachers, counselors, artists, community organizers, and compassionate social activists." This has to be something like, "The Association considers itself to be motivated by ...
A person wanting to know about the organization may well want to know who its presidents have been, but only a person closely associated with the Association will care who the subordinate officers are, Wikipedia is written for the general reader. Further detail goes on its web page
A list of conferences held has sometimes been challenged as overly detailed content, but I think it often appropriate, and am prepared to defend it. it should be expressed concisely, as either a numbered list, or a table. As a list, it would read
  1. 1987. Location ?
  2. 1991. Thammasat University, Bangkok, Thailand “Buddhist Women in the Modern World”
  3. 1993. Colombo, Sri Lanka “Buddhist Women in Modern Society” Keynote by President of Sri Lanka
and so on. Normally, i would suggest not including the keynote speakers, but they have been exceptionally notable,.
For the publications, full title in bibliographic format is needed, along with isbn or oclc number. . WorldCat is a good source, and should be linked: As an example of format: for example:
  • Tsomo, Karma Lekshe, ed. Sakyadhita: Daughters of Buddha: [Report of the 1st International Conference on Buddhist Nuns, 1987, Bodhgaya]. Ithaca, N. Y: Snow Lion Publ, 1988 OCLC 610753237 [1]

Hello Lauriebak, and welcome to Wikipedia. While we appreciate your contributing to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from your sources to avoid copyright or plagiarism issues here.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and a cited source. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Wikipedia:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. (There is a college level introduction to paraphrase, with examples, hosted by the Online Writing Lab of Purdue.) Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • Our primary policy on using copyrighted content is Wikipedia:Copyrights. You may also want to review Wikipedia:Copy-paste.
  • In very rare cases (that is, for sources that are public domain or compatibly licensed), it may be possible to include greater portions of a source text. However, please seek help at the help desk before adding such content to the article. 99.9% of sources may not be added in this way, so it is necessary to seek confirmation first. If you do confirm that a source is public domain or compatibly licensed, you will still need to provide full attribution; see Wikipedia:Plagiarism for the steps you need to follow.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied without attribution. If you want to copy from another Wikipedia project or article, you can, but please follow the steps in Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. SarahStierch (talk) 08:25, 23 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
