Hi there Cabayi - that was most certainly not my intention. Gdparkinson (talk · contribs) - fan our cider and someone I have never met was helping me to get our page uploaded as I am new to Wikipedia editing. I am trying to unblock the "Speedy Deletion" as we believe our article should exist within Wikipedia. We have won many awards and are the best cider in Africa... many other similar international brands with a smaller following are listed. Could you please assist? Sockpuppet investigation[edit]

Hi. An editor has opened an investigation into sockpuppetry by you. Sockpuppetry is the use of more than one Wikipedia account in a manner that contravenes community policy. The investigation is being held at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Laura Clacey, where the editor who opened the investigation has presented their evidence. Please make sure you make yourself familiar with the guide to responding to investigations, and then feel free to offer your own evidence or to submit comments that you wish to be considered by the Wikipedia administrator who decides the result of the investigation. If you have been using multiple accounts (in a manner contrary to Wikipedia policy), please go to the investigation page and verify that now. Leniency is usually shown to those who promise not to do so again, or who did so unwittingly, but the abuse of multiple accounts is taken very seriously by the Wikipedia community.

You may have initially come here in good faith, sincerely thinking that Wikipedia was a free web host that could be used for the purpose of publicising a company's products, so denying that you had any bad-faith intention would be plausible, but to deny that publicising and promoting the company's products was your purpose is absurd. Any one who has read the page you created can see that it was full of praise for the company's cider. You may well have come in response to a request on Facebook for people to create a Wikipedia article in order to publicise this product. If so, you were, unfortunately, misled about the nature of Wikipedia. You are very welcome to start contributing to the encyclopaedia in other ways, neutrally and without promoting anything, but if your only purpose is to post a promotional page about this cider, whether in order to gain a hamper of cider, in order to publicise something you personally like, because you are paid to do it, or for any other reason, then Wikipedia is not the right place to do it. JamesBWatson, Cabayi - I honestly did this in good faith and had no idea that I had violated the COI guidelines. I have never pretended to be anything other than the owner of the brand that thought it would be awesome to get a mention on Wikipedia given the hard work we have put in, and that many of our international competitors have exactly the same things written. I did post something on Facebook to assist us in this cause as we like to get the community involved in our brand, again not realising that this was against Wikipedia - I knew I could't write it myself as my wiki page I wrote in August was removed when I did, so I thought someone else could write it for me - that was my interpretation from reading "writing your first article". I had no idea I would be accused of sockpuppetry (which I am still trying to figure out what that means). I am clearly mistaken about what Wikipedia is trying to do as I use it personally to find out about other companies and what they do, who owns what and where they are based. I have of course removed the post from our Facebook page and have no intention of EVER contributing to wikipedia again after this debacle.

Don't take it personally Laura you misunderstood what wikipedia is about to start off with, a lot of people do... but when the page was deleted with an explanation in August you tried to hustle and work round this by creating a competition and that is not how it works. Wikipedia is neutral it's an encyclopedia where you can find information about notable subjects it is not free publicity and you were trying to use it for that. It's not there to help small guys who are trying to make it, it is not philanthropic wikipedia is not a business angel. There is a policy of not biting a newcomer but when someone deliberately tries to hustle to get past the policies the other editors get a bit bitey...Domdeparis (talk) 14:05, 1 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I started my message by acknowledging that you were likely to have come here in good faith, not knowing that using Wikipedia to advertise a business would be regarded as unacceptable. I made a point of inviting you to contribute in other ways. I tried to make it clear that I was not blaming you for your mistake, just explaining to you that what you did was not within Wikipedia's policies.
