A tag has been placed on Laurence Frichot, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in Wikipedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert notability may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, and if you can indicate why the subject of this article is notable, you may contest the tagging. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page (below the existing db tag) and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm its subject's notability under the guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. ...adam... (talkcontributions) 11:05, 8 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there Larry,

I nominated the article on Laurence Frichot because a the person it was about didn't seem notable enough to deserve a wikipedia page. I checked him out on google and I couldn't find the website you were talking about, or the record that he holds. I would be interested in seeing the site you mention in your message, so if you have the address I'd be more than happy to look at it.

However, not only does a person have to be notable to deserve an article, information must be cited from a reliable source - as I could neither find the person the article was about nor find a reputable source for any of the information, the article was a suitable candidate for speedy deletion (note that I didn't delete the article, I just nominated it - an admin had to review the page and agree with my comment that it was a "non-notable biography", which they did).

For the same reason, I have removed your comment on the Sports Stacking article as well, as until you can cite a source that say that Laurence Frichot is the Australian record holder, you can't include that information in the encyclopedia (what, for example, is stopping me putting that I am the North Of England record holder for sports stacking? only the policy on citing sources.

I hope that you don't feel disheartened by this, we appreciate every constructive entry to wikipedia, and it means a lot that you asked me the question as to why the article was a suitable candidate for speedy deletion - I hope I have answered your questions. It is not so much that you broke any rules, it's just for an article to belong in wikipedia, it has to be inline with policy.

Any further questions, feel free to ask me again. ...adam... (talkcontributions) 11:26, 10 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

PS Don't forget to sign all your messages with "~~~~" - this adds your name and the time and date. It makes it easier for people to find out who said what and when.

As a further note, your edit [1] was inappropriate for the same reasons - you have to be able to WP:CITE anything that goes into wikipedia. Just thought I'd point that out. ...adam... (talkcontributions) 11:29, 10 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
