Italian language and wikipedia
[edit]Hi. If the class is studying Italian, and you need some simple beginners' steps, you could also start to insert some Italian description on the files in wikimedia commons in commons:Category:Troy,_New_York and subfolders. This is a much easier step, because it can be reviewed on a multilingual platform where English is the scaffolding language. example. in my experience with classes, images are always an easy starting point.--Alexmar983 (talk) 13:58, 23 May 2016 (UTC)
- multiple usernames and pass them out to students... you mean you pre-register them? That's not something that is done often but you can read Wikipedia:Account creator. I'm not an expert here on enwiki so ask in the talk there if you don't get something about the details. the rules are quite general but the account creator flag is still local. It means you register an all platforms basically (itwikipedia, enwikipedia, commons...), but the multiple registration is through only one of them. On itwikipedia there's no way this type of delicate flag is given to such an "inexpert" user (no offence, of course!).
- In my experience I've never asked for ti because as a good exercise I asked "students" to register before the class or the dit-a-thons. This also avoid risk of meat-puppeting doubts, because everyone does it if possible in its own place, with its own wifi connection and its own device.
- In any case, there is no "rules" on wiki, just multiple pathways. I live and work in different countries and different wikis most of time so who knows If I am giving you the best advice here? Ask around wher-/whenever you can and don't give up! See also meta:Category:Wikipedia Education Program, meta:Wiki Education Foundation.
- Than, I am expert of wikimetrics, so if you need I can contact for you some anglophone wikipedian that lives close to your area, if you need some help. It's hard to teach (with) wiki if you don't have at least 1000 edits.--Alexmar983 (talk) 19:35, 24 August 2016 (UTC)
- @Alexmar983: So much good stuff here. Thank you! You are correct, I need to up my editor game, no doubt about that. Laertides (talk) 20:20, 24 August 2016 (UTC)
