Nice to have crossed paths.
Wow. I love your user-page (and nom de clavier i.e. user-name). Wish we had more of an excuse to communicate.

ANI
I'm having real trouble understanding this thread. The IP is making the most outrageous claims, yet the admins who have posted to the thread act like there's no cause for concern. I've opened a sock puppet investigation, initially just for the issue with User:Atomises and the IP, but now the IP is saying he is User:Khukri. I certainly don't want to do more harm than good. I could use some guidance on whether I should bow out, withdraw the SPI report, not worry about it, whatever. If you don't respond, I'll assume you can't for whatever reason.--Bbb23 (talk) 23:07, 15 October 2011 (UTC)
- Well, I've been away from the computer. I'm not up on what's been said at ANI. I'll go look. LadyofShalott 00:22, 16 October 2011 (UTC)
- Leave the SPI open. Someone is guilty of WP:POINTy editing at the least. If the clerks/checkusers don't think it needs to be pursued on that end, they'll close it. LadyofShalott 00:29, 16 October 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks. I'm going to stop commenting, though, at ANI and let you and other admins deal with the IP's claims.--Bbb23 (talk) 00:32, 16 October 2011 (UTC)
- The SPI was closed because "the main account has publicly confirmed editing with both this IP and the Atomises account." I assume "main account" refers to Khukri, and it's unclear to me why no action was taken as a result of the sock puppetry. The last comment in the Rolland thread was by Bushranger, who said that "part of WP:ILLEGIT was violated here." I had earlier in the thread referred to a different part of that same section, WP:ADMINSOCK.
- Thanks. I'm going to stop commenting, though, at ANI and let you and other admins deal with the IP's claims.--Bbb23 (talk) 00:32, 16 October 2011 (UTC)

I'm not sure how admins feel about what Khukri did, but in the absence of any indication that action will be taken against him, I would like to start a thread at ANI challenging what he did as a violation of policy and as conduct unbefitting an admin (he even calls himself a "rogue aadmin"). Although I truly resent the deception and game playing by Khukri, at the same time, I'm not real sure of my ground here. For example, I don't know how his supposed retirement affects his admin responsibilities and obligations. I'm also not altogether sure what sanctions I should be requesting, i.e., loss of tools or lesser sanctions that might be applicable to any editor. I also don't want to tilt at windmills if I'm going to be laughed out of court by beginning such a thread. ANI is a tough place. Any comments before I stick my foot (to mix metaphors) in it? You don't have to take a position on the issues - I'm looking more for procedural/policy guidance than finding someone to agree with me.--Bbb23 (talk) 15:29, 16 October 2011 (UTC)
- Hi. Well, I saw that at the SPI. It actually doesn't seem entirely accurate to me though because it was the IP speaking on Khukri's talk page that accepted the responsibility in Khukri's voice. I almost said something to Risker about that myself, but decided to drop it. I think you'd have a case that Khukri was avoiding scrutiny - particularly in the ANI thread up until declaring hin/herself to be Khukri. Otherwise, if the Atomises account edited entirely different articles from the Khukri account (and I have not looked to verify if that is indeed the case or not) that is allowed as an alternative account. (I'm not terribly fond of the practice, but it's not barred.) You might want to approach Risker directly...? LadyofShalott 19:37, 16 October 2011 (UTC)
- If you haven't already, you might want to read Khukri's comments here. Note again that it is the IP who is speaking on Khukri's Talk page, not Khukri himself.--Bbb23 (talk) 20:56, 16 October 2011 (UTC)
- Yep, those are the ones to which I was referring, and I think what Risker was talking about as well. LadyofShalott 21:04, 16 October 2011 (UTC)
- I believe I've just about given up on this issue. User:Risker never responded to my polite query on her Talk page. At ANI, although some admins provided helpful (to me) comments, it just doesn't seem like anyone's really interested in sanctioning User:Khukri for his behavior. Given how pushy I've been on the issue, I think it's time for me to let go. Thanks for all your help.--Bbb23 (talk) 00:33, 21 October 2011 (UTC)
- You're welcome. I'm sorry you didn't get an adequate response one way or the the other. LadyofShalott 01:46, 21 October 2011 (UTC)
- Just a heads up that Risker left a long message on my Talk page along with an apology (much appreciated). You're, of course, welcome to read it if you wish.--Bbb23 (talk) 23:34, 28 October 2011 (UTC)

Hey, or hullo, or whatever one says to a lady. I noticed you categorised some of my recent Greek vase painting articles. I am currently just adding articles, so I'd be immensely grateful if you could have a look, first of all if anything is wrong, and also for whatever categorisations might help. I'll try do them myself, but only after the articles are out there. Great thanks for your help.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Athinaios (talk • contribs)

Hi LadyofShalott
I'd like to invite you to comment here if you have time. Penyulap talk 01:20, 27 October 2011 (UTC)
Hello again LadyofShalott, I would like to request your assistance, I would like to respond to comments that have been made in ANI, I would like to find someone who can review my responses before I post them. You do not agree with pretty much anything I do, so I would expect you are able to criticize effectively. This, plus my observation that your comments appear to be based firmly in reason, rather than emotion, makes it easier to interact with you. I do not know where I should post comments, as I feel 'stalked' by user:only on my talkpages. Would email be more suitable do you think ? Penyulap talk 13:02, 28 October 2011 (UTC)
- Hi Penyulap, I'll be glad to review your comments for you. If you prefer to use email for this process, you mail email me by clicking the "email this user" link on my page. LadyofShalott 14:21, 28 October 2011 (UTC)
- Hello again LadyofShalott, I found I had long ago changed my email in prefs, so I hadn't checked the right email address. I thought it was my old address, and was checking the wrong inbox. Upon checking the right inbox, I see no email, except from other language wikipedia. I would assume you don't feel comfortable speaking to me by email, I am sorry to have bothered you, as I was seeking privacy. Thank you never the less. Sincerely. Penyulap talk 18:20, 28 October 2011 (UTC)
- I think you've misunderstood me. I was saying for you to email me, and then I'll reply. I have no qualms about communicating with you by email. LadyofShalott 18:48, 28 October 2011 (UTC)
- Oh, thank you, I see you understand, it's more a procedural thing using email, because it is absolutely obvious that I cannot use my talkpage to discuss anything. I did send a message, I have a email in my inbox which says "This e-mail was sent by user "Penyulap" on the English Wikipedia to user "LadyofShalott". " However if you haven't received the original, but I have received the copy, then possibly something is not working. Penyulap talk 19:04, 28 October 2011 (UTC)

Levi Shemtov
Dear LadyofShalott, I reverted the edit you did on Levi Shemtov, where you deleted some of the photos. I tried to explain when I did the undo, but there is (as you know) precious little space to explain an edit (unless there is a trick I don't know), and so I even used "u" for "you" and other abbreviations that I know you do not like! So I apologize for that, and want to explain my revert of your edit here. I agree with you that some of the photos on that article should be deleted (and just saw that one editor is recommending speedy deletion for the entire page, but that's another story) -- but by deciding on the "best" ones to keep, you evidently decided based on how they looked, not how secure they were in terms of remaining on the page. For example, the one photo I uploaded to that page was an official White House photo, and you deleted it - but the ones you left are questionable in terms of copyright: one has been proposed for speedy deletion and the other is marked with a "missing permission" banner. So, although I think you're on the right track, my recommendation is that we not delete photos at this point, until we see which ones survive. If you disagree, and go back and delete them again, I will trust your judgment and not interfere. Best wishes, NearTheZoo (talk) 16:08, 27 October 2011 (UTC)Dear LadyofShalott, Looks like the point I was trying to make is moot, because of more recent changes to the article. I thought we had a policy of article titles being in english? /Wikipedia:Naming_conventions#English-language_titles This particular name happens to be mostly readable even with the "thorn" character in the name, but if this was Chinese or Arabic, we would not allow that as the title. Translation of "thorn" as th is completely non contravercial, and if you google the name as I transliterated it, there is a large number of hits on that exact name. Gaijin42 (talk) 15:17, 1 November 2011 (UTC)
His surname is Arnarson, check reference number 1— Preceding unsigned comment added by Freyr123 (talk • contribs)
- (ec)There is some controversy there. As I understand it, we have not come to a real consensus that names written in with characters such as the thorn should always be transliterated. Even if that were the case, I see no reason why you would drop one of the esses from the last name. You say there are (reliable?) sources that spell the name that way. If so, and if they are for that same person, not some other person coincidentally named, cite them. LadyofShalott 15:25, 1 November 2011 (UTC)
- The dropping of the "s" is someone elses change. If I dropped an S during my move, then it was a typo, I was only trying to transliterate the thorn. Gaijin42 (talk) 15:27, 1 November 2011 (UTC)
- Now we have two articles with the exact same content, with both spellings, I think we should use the english version , and redirect the thorn version. Gaijin42 (talk) 15:32, 1 November 2011 (UTC)
- I request at the top of my page that people wikilink all articles they comment upon. Now you tell me there are two articles to discuss. Please link them here so I know what you are talking about. Are you sure it's not just that a redirect exists from your move, then my re-move of the article? LadyofShalott 15:36, 1 November 2011 (UTC)
- Now we have two articles with the exact same content, with both spellings, I think we should use the english version , and redirect the thorn version. Gaijin42 (talk) 15:32, 1 November 2011 (UTC)
- Eythor Arnarson Eyþór Arnarsson almost identical content, some whitepsace and spelling diffs (the extra s). Not a redirect. Gaijin42 (talk) 15:39, 1 November 2011 (UTC)
- Thank you. Now they both redirect to Eyþór Arnarson - the original double s was apparently a typo by Freyr123. I reiterate that if you want to move it to the "th" version, find and cite reliable sources that spell it that way. LadyofShalott 15:44, 1 November 2011 (UTC)

Help needed editing Public library article
Hi LadyofShalott! I just recently edited the Canada section of the Public library article on Wikipedia for a school project (I'm currently completing my MI at the University of Toronto). I noticed that you wrote that you work in a public library, so I was wondering if you'd be able to take a look at the article for me and provide me with some feedback as to whether or not the changes that I made are acceptable. I've never edited a Wikipedia article before, and the project requires that we comment on feedback we receive from the Wikipedia community, so any input you can provide would be greatly appreciated. If you can please respond to my talk page that would be helpful as well (being new to the site I'm still not used to navigating around the different talk pages...). Many thanks in advance! (LauraKBC (talk) 19:26, 31 October 2011 (UTC))
- Hi Laura, sorry I've been a little slow to respond this week, but here I am now. Thank you for your additions to that article. You've added some useful information, well cited. I've made a number of small edits, which you can see by looking at the article history. Mostly, I put punctuation before ref tags. I also couple of redundant wikilinks. There is one sentence where I think you either left out a word or added an extra one. I've marked that one with an "explain" tag and my question. You can find it by looking for the sentence with the words "in due to" underlined. Please followup with any addional questions. I should be able to get back to you in a little more timely manner now. List of important publications in sociology
Hi. A while back you offered to userfy List of important publications in sociology. Now, thanks to a lot of thrashing about by Curb Chain, it has wandered in and out of the main space and his userspace, and is now residing in Wikipedia:WikiProject Science pearls/List of important publications in sociology. The sad thing is, though, that in the process he gutted it of all the publications! I would really appreciate it if you could sort out this mess and restore the content. For now, I think, Wikipedia:WikiProject Science pearls/List of important publications in sociology is as good a location as any. Also, I suspect that Wikipedia:WikiProject Science pearls/List of important publications in law has seen better days. RockMagnetist (talk) 05:48, 6 November 2011 (UTC)
- OK, the sociology list has been restored to a version before all the moving and recreation, so that it actually has content. If the law article existed before, I'm not finding it. LadyofShalott 14:27, 6 November 2011 (UTC)
- Much better! I really appreciate your help. I have no idea whether Wikipedia:WikiProject Science pearls/List of important publications in law existed before. RockMagnetist (talk) 15:06, 6 November 2011 (UTC)
- By the way - have you considered joining WikiProject Bibliographies? RockMagnetist (talk) 20:15, 7 November 2011 (UTC)
- Yes, I'm thinking about it! It's on my watchlist. LadyofShalott 23:40, 7 November 2011 (UTC)
Satar Jabar
Hello, I put the PROD on the Satar Jabar talk page because that was suggested by the Help page on PROD. So I don't think the article was PROD'ed before me. When I technically "blanked" the article it was just a redirect to Abu Ghraib torture and prisoner abuse. The content had already been blanked by a previous editor. I have placed my reasoning for deletion on the Talk:Satar Jabar, rather than a link. I'll check back here for your response.
Mnnlaxer (talk) 21:10, 8 November 2011 (UTC)
- I think you are right, and I was in error in thinking it had previously been prodded. I saw the talk page tag, and that threw me off. I apologize. However, the article has been around since 2005 with a fair number of editors' hands on it. That is in itself a good reason to use a deletion method other than Prod. I suggest you take it to AfD. LadyofShalott 02:50, 9 November 2011 (UTC)
Did you mean . . .
. . . did the nominator even attempt to look for references in the "References" section? Bongomatic 02:33, 11 November 2011 (UTC)
- Hah! Yeah, well, I was being nice. :) LadyofShalott 03:11, 11 November 2011 (UTC)
- Speaking of nice (in the old-fashioned meaning of 'silly')--it was always going to come to this; I saw it coming days ago, but it's always sad when it actually happens. Drmies (talk) 03:42, 11 November 2011 (UTC)
- Yeah, I know. It was a train wreck that was obviously in the works, but not preventable by the people watching it happen. LadyofShalott 03:48, 11 November 2011 (UTC)

What's up?
sigh. Bongomatic 18:22, 8 November 2011 (UTC)
- Hey, Bongo, sorry I've led things slide... haven't had the combination of concentrated time and attention needed to do much article-building. I want to get back to it! LadyofShalott 02:33, 9 November 2011 (UTC)
Hi Lady--
Can you help me find an image of Quentin Bandera that I can stick in his article? There's this and this, among others, but I'm not smart enough (and I'm hungry also...) to figure out if I can steal them. Thank you! Drmies (talk) 18:56, 8 November 2011 (UTC)
- Hmmm.... I was really hoping to say you could use the NYPL one, but I'm not sure you can. I found this: "In general, the photos in our collections are meant to be used for personal, educational or research purposes. It is NYPL's policy to charge scaled reproduction fees to obtain a high resolution file for commercial use. These fees help fund our continued efforts to care for our collections. If you are interested in commercial use of our images, please visit us at www.nypl.org/permissions."(emphasis mine) That makes me uncertain. I'll do some more looking. LadyofShalott 02:41, 9 November 2011 (UTC)
- Thank you Lady. I appreciate your help, always. BTW, I am halfway through The House in Paris; it's been a while since I read such a relatively straightforward novel. The book I read before that was L'Abbé C, and it was strange. Drmies (talk) 03:51, 11 November 2011 (UTC)
- You're welcome, although I'm not sure how much benefit I was. I did look at some other images, but didn't find anything that I was sure could be used. :/ Are you enjoying THIP? It sounded rather bleak from the article. I'm a couple hundred pages into 1Q84, and it's very interesting. Have you read anything by Haruki Murakami? LadyofShalott 03:57, 11 November 2011 (UTC)
- I read Norwegian Wood and Kafka on the Shore, and maybe a few others. To my surprise I found one of them in my father's collection of Erich von Däniken tripe and manly adventure novels. Pity I can't ask him anymore what he thought of it. He's all the rage among my students, and with my Dutch friends as well. Happy reading, Drmies (talk) 14:04, 12 November 2011 (UTC)

Please remove this false information
This sentence ( from the Negrito wiki) " Haplogroup D (Y-DNA) are found frequently among some peoples living in the same area. In China, stone coffins were used by these peoples " It is completely misleading and FALSE. The sources cited was based on 2 random chinese forum talking about ghosts and negrito. I've checked the reference is actually based from 2 chinese forums. The sources for that sentence is from reference are 17 and 18. One of them says nothing about negrito, in fact the page is not even available, and other is just an random chinese forum with chinese people discussing about ghost and negrito.

ALSO the edit contradicts this wiki page http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Andamanese " Within this lineage, the Andamanese (Onges and Jarawas) belong almost exclusively to the subtype designated Haplotype D, which is also common in Tibet and Japan, but rare on the Indian mainland.[13] However, this is a subclade of the D haplogroup which has not been seen outside of the Andamans, marking the insularity of these tribes.[14] The person who edited that source has no understand of haplogroup. Chinese Haplogroup D (Y-DNA) is related Tibeto-burmese and Tibetans, nothing to do with Negrito. " WarriorsPride6565 (talk) 7:58, 15 November 2011 (UTC)
- Sorry, no, I won't touch that. (a) My genetics knowledge is not up to par for editing information about haplogroups and (b) I can't read Chinese to evaluate what is there. I suggest you visit the reliable sources noticeboard and Wikipedia:WikiProject Genetics. Wikipedia:WikiProject China is also obviously relevant. LadyofShalott 00:05, 15 November 2011 (UTC)
Please Explain
The move was undicussedundiscussed and on another "list of important" articles, the relevant wikiproject and an rfc should be created to access weather such "list of important" articles should be turned to bibliographies.
In the deletion review, the List of important publications in biology was restored. I see 2 editors who seem to feel the article should be renamed to Bibliography of biology. As expressed in other articles' talk pages, a separate article can be made.
I feel that the same case is identical. The redirect was undiscussed.Curb Chain (talk) 01:59, 15 November 2011 (UTC)
- While the move to the Bibliography title was initially undiscussed, there was a discussion about moving it back, which, as you well know, was closed as no consensus for that move. Also, what you did was a cut and paste job, which loses the article history. LadyofShalott 02:33, 15 November 2011 (UTC)
- The specific WP:RM was to move back the article before the unilaterality. This doesn't warrant what I did ridiculous. The copypasta was to RESTORE the content before it was changed into bibliography. Rockmagnatist discusses this on the talk page.Curb Chain (talk) 03:41, 15 November 2011 (UTC)
- No, you don't ever do cut and paste moves. LadyofShalott 03:55, 15 November 2011 (UTC)

Renaming bibliographic articles
Howdy! Here are two of the Great Questions of Our Time: "List of works of X" versus "X bibliography"?, and "List of works about X" vs. "Bibliography of X"?
Do you know of anyone who might be able to provide me with a librarian's overview of this? Or a general discussion of the positives/negatives for the issue? An article created by me is up for a rename and I have the feeling that there may be a little politics etc rumbling on behind the scenes, for which reason I would like to seek a wider discussion of the semantics. - Sitush (talk) 05:21, 21 November 2011 (UTC)
- Well, if you haven't already done so, see WP: WikiProject Bibliographies and WP: WikiProject Science Pearls as well as various AfDs and RMs for some of the recent discussions. (Yes, there is politics involved. I personally like the word bibliography better, but don't think it makes a whole lot of difference.) I'll see what I can find that directly addresses your question. That is an enormous article, and on the verge of being over the edge of how-to. Drmies (talk) 01:33, 2 December 2011 (UTC)
- Yeah. It's been, I think, through several AfDs. I'm not fond of the article. I think there's an encyclopedic argument for such an article to exist, but some of that at times does go too far. I've mostly stayed on the periphery there. I'm not exactly unbiased. (Note that among my earliest contributions to the 'pedia are AFSP and Nuçi's Space.) LadyofShalott 01:38, 2 December 2011 (UTC)

Well, both article and talk page are protected--and here we have, oddly, the kind of vandalism that we cannot do much about, as opposed to the other IP edits we've been talking about that weren't (initially) vandalism! harrassed
Hey there. I have reason to believe that user:Tryptofish is logging off and using his IP address to tag some of my work for deletion. could you please confirm if 81.106.229.34 is tryptofish ? Thanks Eli+ 00:52, 4 December 2011 (UTC)
- No, sorry, I can't do that. Only a checkuser (which I'm not) has that ability, and they won't release information tying an IP directly to a named account. LadyofShalott 00:54, 4 December 2011 (UTC)
- If you think that Tryptofish is deliberately using an IP and the named account in the same discussion, you could ask for a checkuser to look into it at WP:SPI. They'll take action if it's warranted. LadyofShalott 00:58, 4 December 2011 (UTC)
- thank you, I'll do that Eli+ 01:07, 4 December 2011 (UTC)

RFA thankspam
Thank you for your comment and support at my recent successful RFA. Being now the new fellow in the fraternity of administrators, I will do my best to live up to the confidence shown in me by others, will move slowly and carefully when using the mop, will seek input from others before any action of which I might be unsure, and will try not to break anything beyond repair. Best, Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 21:35, 4 December 2011 (UTC)
- Congratulations. If I can help you out as you're learning the new set of ropes, let me know! LadyofShalott 22:18, 4 December 2011 (UTC)

Dear LadyofShalott,
I left a note on a talkpage here I don't want any kind of TFS, and I'm sure it won't go there (I have no interest in this article) I wonder if you can use you not-agree-with-Penyulap powers to say should I retract my note on that talkpage. I sometimes aren't the best judge of these things, and think I shall take a very long time before replying to any comment left on that talkpage. But just wanted to see if there is any red flag I can't see so far. Penyulap talk 18:11, 5 December 2011 (UTC)
Bacon Challenge 2012 Update
Hey! It's been a good few months since the Bacon Challenge 2012 kicked off in June, and I'm pleased to say that decent progress has been made. While we were a bit slow to start, bacon-related contributions have been picking up again, and scores have been rising in the Bacon WikiCup. Here's a quick rundown of the overall positions as they stand:
- 1st: Silver seren
- 2nd: Worm That Turned
- 3rd: Rcsprinter123
- 4th: Doh5678
- 5th: Cirt
Currently, only a handful of participants have reported contributions: to those who haven't, remember, there is still plenty of time left to contribute and rise up in through the positions, as the Challenge and WikiCup run up until March. Just like last year, all participants will receive a shiny medal which they can place on their userpages, or use as a self-esteem booster if need be (just joking...sort of). If you need ideas for what to work on, a list is available here.
One last thing! Per request, we are bringing back territory representation into the WikiCup! Editors can now represent nations, states, or provinces, just to add a bit of fun and Olympic-flair to the event. Simply reply to this message with the territory you wish to represent, if you choose to do so.
Thanks for reading! Good luck! ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 02:02, 6 December 2011 (UTC)
Cats
Hello LadyofShalott, I noticed you are adding categories to some articles I made some time ago. These cats are useful, but I think there is no need to add both "Butterflies and moths of Africa" AND "Insects of South Africa", since "Butterflies and moths of Africa" is part of "Insects of South Africa" allready. In my opinion it would be best to limit the cat to the "Butterflies and moths of Africa" (i.e. the most precise category). Cheers and keep it up! Ruigeroeland (talk) 15:57, 6 December 2011 (UTC)
- Well, Africa is a continent, and South Africa is a country within that continent. If B & m of Africa is a subcat of Insects of South Africa, I submit that is an error that needs correcting. :) LadyofShalott 16:03, 6 December 2011 (UTC)
- Ah yes, your are right: I overlooked the "south" part of the title. Please ignore my comment.. :) Ruigeroeland (talk) 16:07, 6 December 2011 (UTC)

Hop, hop
Lady--see User talk:198.161.203.6, the dumb comments below. Then see this. Then see this. Then see this, by the last IP before protection on the DPL article--which brings us to this. Drmies (talk) 16:40, 8 December 2011 (UTC)
- OK, see my note on Elockid's talk page. We're dealing with a long-term vandal using a ton of IPs and a relatively narrow set of interests, including Talk:Suicide methods, Itinerant, Democratic Party (Luxembourg), and various Slovenian articles (Slovenian parliamentary election, 2011, Positive Slovenia). Drmies (talk) 17:00, 8 December 2011 (UTC)
- Found him, I think. Drmies (talk) 17:21, 8 December 2011 (UTC)
- Wow, I just saw all this - I've been trying to help people and put a cart of books in order while listening to the infernal beeping of construction vehicles. "Found him" as in someone did a rangeblock? Or what? LadyofShalott 17:27, 8 December 2011 (UTC)
- No, there's too much hopping, I imagine, but I think there's a master; I've asked an expert and will keep you posted. Have a great day! Drmies (talk) 17:41, 8 December 2011 (UTC)
- Ah, if that's confirmed, I would definitely support a community ban on the master account. It won't stop the IP-hopping, but has its own merits. Please do keep me in the loop. You have a great day as well! LadyofShalott 19:03, 8 December 2011 (UTC)

Recent IP block
Hi there; I will concede that this is your call, and I will not interfere further; do you think that a one month block for 125.39.16.85 is a little harsh? Perhaps I am misreading it, but the violation does not appear to me to be gross, especially as this an IP editor. Feel free to slap me down if you feel I am wrong. --Anthony Bradbury"talk" 20:34, 9 December 2011 (UTC)
- No slap down needed: it's a reasonable question. I went on the harsh side because this seems to be an admitted IP-hopping vandal who made a rather harassing edit. See this link for my removal of the edit both admitting the hopping and the harassment of Drmies. If you look at the section of this page titled "Hop, hop", you'll see a bit more about what we've been dealing with. LadyofShalott 21:38, 9 December 2011 (UTC)
- Yea. Fair call, no further comment.--Anthony Bradbury"talk" 21:45, 9 December 2011 (UTC)
Question
If you have the time, I was hoping you could help me. I don't have much experience with GA. My Russian friend and I have collaborated on several extensive Russian articles here. Our best article is on the Nobel Prize winner Ivan Bunin. My main concern is that most of the refs for the Bunin article are Russian language refs. Does it have a shot at GA with these refs? My collaborator has several GA and FA articles on ru.wiki, so his sources are trusted there. One of the reasons I ask is that GA Russian literature related articles are almost non-existant here. The other reason is that there are few or no English language sources on many Russian writers, even relatively major ones. Your work on The House in Paris is where I picked you out from to ask.--INeverCry 02:54, 10 December 2011 (UTC)
- I would say that, yes, an article with sources that are predominantly non-English would have a shot at GA. However, I suspect you really meant to aim this question at Drmies, not me, and I'll ask him to look here and respond. LadyofShalott 03:16, 10 December 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks for the quick response.--INeverCry 03:31, 10 December 2011 (UTC)
- Well, there's the principle and then the practitalities. Sources are reliable or not, it's not dependent on the language. But being able to judge them is, of course. By the way, I don't believe that there are no English sources for Russian writers, but that's beside the point, probably; I'm sure there's fewer than there are Russian sources. So the burden is one of both of the following: find English language sources, or find a reviewer who knows Russian... You might ask at Wikipedia talk:Good article nominations if anyone there can help out. I am useless here, since I've really only used English sources (with the occasional French or German article) for GAs. Lady, do you think Malleus has advice to give here? Good luck NeverCry, Drmies (talk) 04:25, 10 December 2011 (UTC)
- Oh, he might at that. I'll ask him. LadyofShalott 04:34, 10 December 2011 (UTC)
- Atleast there's hope. I've asked Sturmvogel 66 about it as well.--INeverCry 04:56, 10 December 2011 (UTC)
- I don't think believing in hope is a very Russian thing to do, or even a European thing in general. Which reminds me: we're all going to die. Drmies (talk) 05:23, 10 December 2011 (UTC)
- You might die, but I haven't decided yet; there are pluses and minuses. Malleus Fatuorum 01:25, 11 December 2011 (UTC)

Persondata data data
Hey, Lady, I noticed a few Persondata additions, and I just wanted to point out that the NAME parameter should generally be DEFAULTSORTish. Now, I don't know if it's supposed to follow all of the weird little rules that apply to DEFAULTSORT, but for simple cases it should be something like Lastname, Firstname. When I fix a DEFAULTSORT, I sometimes apply the same fix to the Persondata, and sometimes I don't. Really, I don't think anybody knows exactly what's supposed to be done with all of the fields in Persondata. For instance, I don't know if birth/death places are supposed to be linked or not. I used to link them, but now I don't. Some day there'll probably be a huge bot run to standardize all of these things. And, yes, my section heading makes perfect sense, as this is data about the data in Persondata. MANdARAX • XAЯAbИAM 10:54, 12 December 2011 (UTC)
- Oh, OK, I'll do the <lastname, firstname> order there from now on. I've been inconsistent with the linking myself. I think I remember reading somewhere that we were encouraged to do it, in the hopes that someday it will actually be useful, or something like that. I like your section header!
