Welcome to Wikipedia!

Hello, LH440!

Welcome to Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

Hi LH440, I'm Encoded and I've been assigned as your mentor. Welcome to Wikipedia!

About half of new Wikipedia accounts receive a mentor chosen randomly from a list of volunteers. It just means I'm here to help with anything you need! We need to have all kinds of people working together to create an online encyclopedia, so I'm glad you're here.

Below, I've attached a whole host of information regarding how Wikipedia works. You don't have to read it all now, but I'd recommend remembering this message and coming back to it if you're unsure on anything. You can also send me any questions you may have, and I'll be happy to help! I highly recommend doing the tutorial before you start editing, it's incredibly useful in helping you get started.

Getting Started

Tutorial
Learn everything you need to know to get started.

The Teahouse
Ask questions and get help from experienced editors.

The Task Center
Learn what Wikipedians do and discover how to help.

Tips
  • Don't be afraid to edit! Just find something that can be improved and make it better. Other editors will help fix any mistakes you make.
  • It's normal to feel a little overwhelmed, but don't worry if you don't understand everything at first—it's fine to edit using common sense.
  • If an edit you make is reverted, you can discuss the issue at the article's talk page. Be civil, and don't restore the edit unless there is consensus.
  • Always use edit summaries to explain your changes.
  • When adding new content to an article, always include a citation to a reliable source.
  • If you wish to edit about a subject with which you are affiliated, read our conflict of interest guide and disclose your connection.
  • Have fun! Your presence in the Wikipedia community is welcome.

If you need assistance with anything, have any questions, or just want to say hello please feel free to send me a message, I'm always happy to help :) Happy editing! Encoded  Talk 💬 21:33, 13 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello, I'm Meters. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, Salisbury School, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so. You can have a look at referencing for beginners. If you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Meters (talk) 21:18, 31 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Managing a conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, LH440. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Salisbury School, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for article subjects for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicizing, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Encoded  Talk 💬 17:40, 2 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Please do not add or change content, as you did at Salisbury School, without citing a reliable source. Please review the guidelines at Wikipedia:Citing sources and take this opportunity to add references to the article. Thank you. Meters (talk) 22:45, 12 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
