Writing articles

[edit]

I saw you post at WP:HD. When writing an article for Wikipedia, a few things need to be remembered. The subject must be notable enough. This means that third party sources will have written about the subject. An article needs some structure, such as

  • infobox
  • Lede
  • Content
  • See also
  • External links
  • References

Those in italics are not always required. Referencing is the biggest thing to remember, per WP:CITE. It may be useful to create a personal sandbox to work on an article before it is ready for release to mainspace. What is the subject of the article you have in mind? Let me know if you need help creating a sandbox and I'll do it for you. Mjroots (talk) 10:24, 8 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Oops, should have checked your contributions before I posted that. So, you've made a start then? Good, now, {{infobox person}} would be a useful addition. As a biography of a living person, references are a must, or the article would be liable to deletion. You say she's an author, so a section on books written would be useful, use {{cite book}} for these. Have a look at William Coles Finch, which I wrote, to give you some idea of structure and what to include. Mjroots (talk) 10:30, 8 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
