No, it was an accident. I was going to post a comment under the user's welcome banner i added to his talk page page but i forgot. You have to understand my reflect, i mean how many times has the article and the talk page been reverted over the boyfriend's age? plus, at first, it seemed to me that it was a personal opinion because of "the age of the father is of concern", then i realized that he meant the law's concern, not his. Anyway, sorry about that. -Yamanbaiia(free hugs!) 01:35, 21 December 2007 (UTC)

There are many views regarding what Newar means, which can differ depending on background and understanding of each individual. I understand and appreciate the view that you mentioned, which is one way of defining Newar, however you should appreciate that there can be more than one way of defining such a broad topic . We do have to appreciate the fact that Newars are ethnic community. I am a Newar and when someone questions me of my ethnicity, I put Newar down on it. Newars are recognized as one of the native ethnic community of Nepal by Government of Nepal, and please be aware that this is not a new phenomenon. Please refer to website of Central Bureau of statistics which have been categorizing Nepalese people into various ethnic groups and you will be able to find percentage of Nepalese who refer themselves as Newar ethnically, and percentage of people who speak Nepal Bhasa. It is sad to say that the number of people who speak Nepal Bhasa are less than the number of Newars according to official statistical figure of Central Bureau of Statistics of Nepal. Please refer to http://www.cbs.gov.np/. I do have my personal reservations about this data.
With best regards,

Kushal I am not aware if anybody has done a well designed and widely accepted genealogy study on Newars. I do not completely agree with individuals, researchers or even scholars who try to restrict Newars just as a language group. As I mentioned earlier, I feel that it is another way of looking at it. It is just my personal opinion.
I feel that people are trying to discredit Newars by branding them as "people who just care for the language Nepal Bhasa". I have even come across some articles in Nepali newspapers which have tried to discredit Newar in such a way. I like Nepal Bhasa and I support the idea that it should gain wider recognition in Government offices of Nepal, especially Kathmandu Valley. However, I resepctfully request you to remember that Newars are much more than a language group. Its an entirely civilized ethnic culture, with their own lifestyle, social norms, architecture, religion.....and many more things that a complete society or a complete culture has. A Brahman friend of mine once told me that its only Newars who have such well developed culture in Nepal. What he meant is Newars as a group are completely independent, who have their own group of people performing various professional work either as dyers, barbers, mason, goldsmith, administrators, traditional doctors etc. Newar culture and society must have been quite developed in the old country before unification of Nepal, and despite the effort of past rulers of Nepal to destroy it, the culture of Newar is still well preserved. Well, I think there needs to be more sociological research. In the meantime, I also think that we should learn to respect and preserve this Newar culture which has evolved from hard work of Newars of many centuries. Researcers of many discipline around the world today feel the need to preserve such culture and have been working for it....be it for saving the dance, food recipe, agricultural method, medicinal herbs etc. However, it is sad that Newars themselves do not recognize their own good points.

Nepal Bhasa
I just wish to share some information to you, which may not be of direct relevance here. Do you have knowledge of use of Nepal Bhasa in places like Mustang and Tibet? I heard from someone that the recent discovery of cave paintings Mustang were in Nepal Bhasa, but I found no evidence of that as the discoverers mentioned that the paintings were in Tibetian Language. Another rumour that I heard a long time ago is the use of Nepal Bhasa Ranjana Lipi in Tibet, though I dont have any evidence of that either. Now if these rumours are true, it means that Nepal Bhasa was very influential centuries ago and that it was used far wider than we currently beleive. By the way, I am not trying to change anything in the article that you mentioned. What I beleive is that there can be more than one ways of defining complex topics. Even sociologists define basic things like culture & group in more than one way. What I feel is that anybody editing in site like Wikipedia must be very cocnerned and is just contributing for the sake of increasing knowledge of mankind. I thank you for your contribution as well. Keep up the good work. By the way, you have not mentioned your location and/or what you do in your page.

What's the point of putting an "under construction" tag on an empty page? Is there some fear that the space will be taken by something else? And wouldn't doing that for somebody who has a conflict of interest in the article be a violation of WP:COI? When will there be something here? Corvus cornixtalk 23:59, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
- Just put a {{db-author}} tag on it and delete the rest of it. It's not that major a deal, it just seemed a little strange. :) Corvus cornixtalk 03:37, 19 February 2008 (UTC)

First, second
Kushal, I've looked through the MoS pages and CMOS and don't see a specific guideline on the use of "first, second" in the sense of "firstly, secondly". However, I'm pretty sure this is because they're relying on the dictionary definition to be sufficient, not because they don't contemplate it. Search for "first," (with the comma) in WT:MOS and archives and you'll see that people who do a lot of work on featured articles use "first, second" in this sense quite a lot. (Talk pages are of course more informal.) - Dan Dank55 (talk) 15:15, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

Spoiler warnings
You wrote in another place:
- Hroðulf, sometime in late 2005 or 2006 (date not accurate), there was a surge in using spoiler warning. I do not see any of those now. Could you find out why? Thanks. Kushal 15:48, 3 April 2008 (UTC) Here are two links about the spoiler warning tag Wikipedia:Templates_for_deletion/Log/2007_November_8 and Wikipedia:Deletion_review/Log/2007_November_14. Kushal 19:54, 3 April 2008 (UTC)
After a very long wikibreak, I am as surprised as you by the utter annihilation of spoiler warnings. This made it hard for me to read Damages (TV series) while watching it. As well as the links you gave, it turns out the case for deleting the warnings was discussed for years at Wikipedia talk:Spoiler before finally throwing out the whole thing in 2007. It doesn't sound like they are coming back any time soon. The culture here at Wikipedia seems to change all the time, despite the complex bureaucracy. --Hroðulf (or Hrothulf) (Talk) 17:24, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
- Thank you for your reply. Yes, Spoiler warning seems to have been a rather comprehensive debate. I thought there might be something to learn for the current debate on Tempate:ProseTimeline. (I do realize that the debate about ProseTimeline is closed by now.) What do you plan on doing with the template (if anything)? Kushal 17:55, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
I would like to edit Template:ProseTimeline to make it a talk page template. I really don't see the point of warning every reader that the article is not up to good article standards. It is bad enough that they have to read ugly prose. However, my assessment of the responses to the template for deletion discussion is that I don't think I will get very far. So I will go click 'edit' somewhere else on the encyclopedia. --Hroðulf (or Hrothulf) (Talk) 18:06, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
- How about changing the template so that it is just a category (nothing shows up in the article, just the footnote) in the article, there is a full explanation in the talk page, and the article gets added to this (lengthy) list of articles in the [[Category:ProseTimeline]]. Even though there was quite some opposition to deletion, most comments——IMHO——were receptive of the need for change. You are a responsible administrator, Hroðulf. I am glad that administrators like you are around. Happy editing, Kushal 18:15, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

Dick Cheney quote
Following on from yesterday's IRC conversation (I think it was with you), I've tracked down the event - Cheney spoke to the Discovery Institute on August 14th 1992. I've not been able to find a direct copy of that quote in contemporary reporting, but it certainly fits with what was said at the time.
- "There's no doubt we have the ability to prevail," he said. "But then what do you do?" Asked why the Bush administration had left Saddam Hussein in power at the end of the gulf war, Cheney assured the audience of 3,260 veterans and family members that the U.S. military could have ousted Saddam. "But Saddam is not the kind of individual that you could pull a paddy wagon up and say, 'Come on, Saddam, you're going to the slammer,'" said Cheney. "I would guess if we'd gone on to Baghdad, I'd still have troops in Iraq."
- (Helen Ellsberg - The News Tribune - Sunday, August 16, 1992)
The bulk of his remarks that day were focused on intervention in Bosnia, which he described as potentially a second Vietnam. "If we were to intervene with U.S. forces on the ground, it would require a very large number of forces ... take a very long time and would entail probably significant casualties for us". "[T]here are some problems that don't lend themselves to a military solution".
Some remarks similar to what was quoted by the Seattle PI appeared in the Washington Post on *September* 15th, from a speech Cheney gave to the "Detroit Economic Club" on September 14th:
- If you get into the business of committing U.S. forces on the ground in Iraq, to occupy the place, my guess is I'd probably still have people there today instead of having been able to bring them home. ... The bottom line question for me was: How many additional American lives is Saddam Hussein worth? The answer: not very damn many.
The "not very damn many" quote was also attributed to Cheney in a late-January article by Leslie Gelb (no source date given), then quoted again in a May article by the Associated Press, where he'd said it to the National Press Club on May 20th, before reappearing in September (above). The comments are quite probably from a standard prepared talk Cheney gave in 1992 to various audiences, so it doesn't seem too odd that they're being reported from a different venue to the one mentioned in the article, and it seems to be pretty likely he'd have said them in August as well. Shimgray | talk | 19:46, 27 October 2008 (UTC)
- I don't think we need to expand the sources, really - it's sourced to the Seattle PI, and what I was digging around for was just to confirm that even if we didn't have a verbatim contemporary quote to corroborate it, we do have enough contemporary evidence that they probably weren't making it up. Sanity-checking, I guess :-) Shimgray | talk | 20:36, 27 October 2008 (UTC)
