Username and COI

[edit]

G'day

I need to ask, what is your relationship to KUSF (defunct), and draw your attention to WP:COI and particularly WP:COI#General COI which may apply.

And in any case, I also need to question your choice of username, and refer you to Wikipedia:Username policy and particularly Wikipedia:Username policy#Promotional names, which does appear to me to apply.

Please reply here or on my own user talk page, urgently. Andrewa (talk) 19:38, 8 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello!

This account is used by myself, Dean Zulueta, and Basile Inman. We are the Production Directors for KUSF.org and are paid staff by the University of San Francisco. Our information is available on our website.

I see what you mean about the choice of username, however, we are simply using this account to update incorrect and misleading information about the station's Wikipedia page. Primarily, the (defunct) status on the name which is misleading. The station is alive and well yet when people search for us, they see that and assume we died in 2011. I get why promotional names shouldn't be used, but we aren't inappropriately making changes such as we requested a change in the name and are leaving it to Wiki editors to dispute.

We appreciate your concern. Kusforg (talk) 12:01, 8 February 2017 (PST)

Welcome to Wikipedia. Because we have a policy against usernames which give the impression that the account represents a group, organization or website, I have blocked this account; please take a moment to create a new account with a username that represents only yourself as an individual and which complies with our username policy or request a change of username.

You should also read our conflict of interest guideline and be aware that promotional editing is not acceptable regardless of the username you choose.

If your username does not represent a group, organization or website, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page.

You may simply create a new account, but you may prefer to change your username to one that complies with our username policy, so that your past contributions are associated with your new username. If you would prefer to change your username, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock-un|new username|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page. Thank you. User:Mfield, thanks for that. Please also note that this is a shared account according to their reply to me at #Reply to Andrewa's Concerns above.

I would think in view of all of that, there is no possible case for an unblock. but would encourage the two contributors to instead create accounts of their own, with appropriate usernames, and with disclosure of their COI. Note also that they have disclosed that they are paid employees, so the paid editing policy also applies. Andrewa (talk) 20:38, 12 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
