ARBPIA

[edit]

This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

You have shown interest in the Arab–Israeli conflict. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect. Any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.

To opt out of receiving messages like this one, place {{Ds/aware}} on your user talk page and specify in the template the topic areas that you would like to opt out of alerts about. For additional information, please see the guidance on discretionary sanctions and the Arbitration Committee's decision here. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.

You may not edit material related to the Arab-Israeli conflict in any namespace beside the Talk: namespace. That includes Portal:. If you continue to do so I will ask that you be topic-banned. You may also not misuse the article talk pages for a web forum. Thank you for cooperating. nableezy - 16:51, 8 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Please elaborate on what do you refer to. Thanks. Kuketski (talk) 16:55, 8 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
This and this. You may not edit material about the Arab-Israeli conflict in any namespace besides Talk:. Please see WP:A/I/PIA for further explanation, specifically this section. nableezy - 16:56, 8 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, so I need to get out of 500/30 zone first? Oh, thanks, didnt knew that! Kuketski (talk) 16:59, 8 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Yes 500 edits and 30 days tenure. But please make them productive edits, not simply changing a character to get around the restriction. The point is to help you familiarize yourself with our content rules. Additionally, I tagged your upload at commons as a copyright violation. You cannot simply upload material and insert a license of your choosing, the company that made that video owns its rights and you may not host non-free material on commons. Please do not do that again. nableezy - 17:03, 8 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I've looked up the license that Al-Jazira is using before uploading, but another user has pointed out that it was not Al-Jazira...
I dont know how to verify it, the media was since deleted from the official channels since it goes against channel's agenda and nobody wants to touch it with five-feet stick. IMO the media I've uploaded is much more valuable than the IDF's footage - it was captured LIVE, during the day and in color and was done by Gazan journalists, so its much more bias-proof.
What is the usual approach in such cases apart from doing nothing? Kuketski (talk) 17:12, 8 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
If you cannot prove something is licensed under a free license then you should not be uploading it to commons. It doesnt matter if you think it is valuable, this is a project dedicated to creating a free encyclopedia, free to use, free to re-use, free to profit off if you sho choose. We sometimes allow fair use media in our articles in furtherance of the educational aims, but that has very strict rules (WP:NFCC). There is no chance you can use a video pulled from a news clip that is covering what the news clip is covering. Regardless of if you think it is useful. If you cannot prove it has a free license then you are, and Im not trying to be harsh or attacking but this is a fact, stealing their content and making commons participate in a copyright violation. That will get you blocked from commons if you do it repeatedly. Again, if you cannot prove a certain license then you may not place that license on your commons upload. nableezy - 17:24, 8 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
