Zen Buddhism in the United States

[edit]

I am looking for editors to come to my sandbox at User:Mind meal/Sandbox26 to collaborate on creating a first-class article on Zen Buddhism in the United States. Interested parties can contact me on my talk page. I would like to see a group of research-oriented editors come aboard. I think it may work best if various editors focus on one particular dimension of Zen in America (always backed by references) and we can add various sections, come up with section titles, and eventually bring the article to "completion." While this is a labor of love for me, I fear it will take eons to get the article right alone. With the help of other editors, however, we can make progress much faster. Please contact me before starting to edit my sandbox. I want to know the members I am working with before doing so. I contacted you specifically becaue I would like to know if you could provide Japanese names for the individuals covered in the unpublished article. I will support for you.--Kstigarbha (talk) 02:17, 18 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Doshu

[edit]

G'day. I mean you no offense. Why do you keep changing どうしゅう to どうしゅ ?

I have checked several dictionaries, all list the former. Why do you think the latter is more correct? Also, can you cite any source to back up your assertion?

If you think there is a mistake widespread in dictionaries, could you indicate where the correct version is found and explain why that source should be considered more authorative? Can you give any explanation at all? I accept that the reading of the second kanji as しゅ is correct in many common words (such as for Lord), but nonetheless the references that I have provided state that it is instead the more archaic reading that is correct in doshu. I have no ideological commitment to one choice or the other, but in the absence of verifiable counterevidence I fear that I may be forced to presume you to be the one in error.

Importantly, please remember the WP:V policy. (As for you "asking" my nationality, let's be careful.) Cesiumfrog (talk) 04:27, 6 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I look you are not native Japanese and live in Japan. Consequently you don't Know, 主 read しゅう was older reading at Edo and Muromachi period. 主 read しゅ is newer reading since Japanese modern time. Aikido was started in Japanese modern time. Therefore, 道主 read どうしゅ is the correct. Understand? If you seek source, I write source from Japanese dictionary.
By the way, I often meet Aikikai 3rd Doshu and 4th Doshu (Waka-sensei) at Aikikai Hombu Dojo. --Kstigarbha (talk) 07:17, 7 March 2011 (UTC) [reply]
The source you have cited refers to 主 alone (e.g., the word for Lord), not to 道主. I had already acknowledged that 主 is more commonly read as しゅ, so that misses the point. The question is, how should the compound 道主 be read, どうしゅ or どうしゅう? (I accept that to a typical native Japanese speaker it may seem more natural to generalise the same rule across to doshu, but I'd like to verify that, especially since it's a subtle difference in an esoteric term.) I can point out multiple online dictionaries that all say it should be read as どうしゅう. Why don't you start by looking up 道主 (not just 主) in an online Japanese dictionary? Cesiumfrog (talk) 06:23, 9 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I'm late. Large earthquake and tsunami, nuclear plant's accident were occurred in Japan. 道主 written in online Japanese dictionaries? Where dictionary? 道主 isn't exist on Yahoo!Japan's and goo'S. Please tell me, online Japanese dictionary that you used. --Kstigarbha (talk) 12:23, 24 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I know. Anyway, I checked http://jisho.org (WWWJDIC), http://tangorin.com (JMdict), http://www.freedict.com/onldict/jap.html (EDICT). These all seem to be derived from one person (Jim Breen), so yes it is plausible that an error could have been introduced. But I can't find any other source that lists 道主 by itself. Do you know of any other place? Cesiumfrog (talk) 00:13, 25 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Why don't you use the Japanese dictionary made by Japanese? Are not there the library or Japanese bookstore in your neighborhood? 道主 is word of the aikido. Therefore, it does not appear in a general Japanese dictionary.--Kstigarbha (talk) 06:40, 25 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Now, I sent E-mail to jisho.org and JMdict's master. I ask them the source of どうしゅう. Please, just wait.--Kstigarbha (talk) 07:45, 25 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I received 1 E-mail. Jim Breen (Master of JMdict) say "The original source of どうしゅう for 道主 is lost. I suspect it is an error, and the correct reading is どうしゅ."--Kstigarbha (talk) 09:00, 26 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
And I asked for help to Aiki group in Lindin. Then, They taught me the following site Forvo. If you trust the online dictionaries, You should trust this dictionary. Understand? --Kstigarbha (talk) 04:17, 2 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I received 1 E-mail. Kim Ahlström (Master of jisho.org) say "Jisho.orgのデータはWWWJDICという辞書プロジェクトからきます。Jisho.orgは定期的にWWWJDICのデータを読み込むのですが、たまにこれによってJisho.orgのデータが最新版ではないことがあり得ます。そして、WWWJDICでは「道主」がすでに「どうしゅ」に変更されましたので、今度Jisho.orgでも「どうしゅ」になります。". --Kstigarbha (talk) 05:27, 5 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thankyou Kstigarbha, for contributing to WWWJDIC (by contacting Jim Breen) and for finding a source (I've cited Forvo in the article). Cesiumfrog (talk) 06:40, 5 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

您的建議很好,謝謝。當然改名後還要修改各個連入此照片的條目,在commons:file:Taiwan 2009 HuaLien City JingSi Hall at Tzu Chi University FRD 8410.jpg可找到這些條目。Fred Hsu (talk) 03:13, 19 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your quick answer. I did its. --Kstigarbha (talk) 10:07, 20 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
