RE: Finch did NOT start as Numb, or a deftones cover band.

Hello Kriscoleman! It's very rare a new editor can communicate with such civility, so I will extend you the same courtesy. I strongly recommend you read up on various Wikipedia policies and guidelines. First and foremost, Wikipedia's policy on verification states "The threshold for inclusion in Wikipedia is verifiability, not truth—what counts is whether readers can verify that material added to Wikipedia has already been published by a reliable source, not whether editors think it is true." There are several of what Wikipedia defines as a reliable source, most notably the Allmusic entry for Finch. If you are not familiar with Allmusic, tons of music sites take info from that site. Many notable music sites, including MTV[1] copy and paste from Allmusic. Both Billboard[2] and Rolling Stone (not in this case) generally take information from Allmusic, and when you try to copy a CD to your computer using iTunes or Windows Media Player, that information that automatically fills in comes from Allmusic. Needless to say, if they get something wrong, everyone gets it wrong. A quick search with Google News turns up a handful of other sources too, but most are archived pay-per-view news articles and I cannot link them for you here.

Editing Wikipedia is not just simply adding whatever you see fit, but also adding a source for readers and editors to see where you got that information. Also from Wikipedia's policy on verification, "The burden of evidence lies with the editor who adds or restores material. All quotations and any material challenged or likely to be challenged must be attributed to a reliable, published source using an inline citation." I have only seen sources supporting Finch originally being named Numb and covering Deftones songs, and you did not provide a published source supporting your claim, so I challenged the material and removed it. It's interesting that there have been no sources disproving this fact in the decade of the band's existence. Until there is a published third-party source that explicitly states Finch was never known as Numb and never covered Deftones songs, that bit of information will remain posted.

There are several sources available that directly refer to Finch (or Numb) as a Deftones cover band. Fortunately, while trying to find one to add the article, I manged to find an interview where Randy said they were never a cover. However, it is not quite clear though his response whether or not the band was also never referred to as Numb. So that little bit will have to stay until a more clear source comes forth. So yay! Thank you for bringing this issue to my attention. Again, I have only seen sources supporting this false claim, and never before had any reason to think otherwise. I too have been a long time fan of Finch, and while I would love for their Wikipedia article to be as factually accurate as possible, it also needs to fall within Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Sometimes those guidelines can prevent the article from being factually accurate due to fans communicating with bands (via forums, concerts, blogs, etc.) about unpublished information. But the guidelines are there for good reason and do sent the framework for a good article not based on "he said, she said."

I do encourage you to get that interview with Finch, though it probably cannot be posted here. The general consensus on YouTube videos as a sources is that it must be posted by an official publication. It can't just be some kid with a camera phone asking a band a question after a show. I don't know what mag you were getting the interview for, but if they have an official YouTube channel, that would be the best place to post it.

I cannot tell you how refreshing it is to communicate with a civil Wikipedian. I frequently have to deal with non-registered IP users that basically give me a digital middle finger, and are completely unwilling to adhere to the guidelines set up by this community.
