Welcome messages!!

[edit]

Hi @Kitblake:! as you can see , I have posted several welcoming messages to your talk page, below. each of these have different numbers of links.

If you wish, you can simply use the welcome message that contains ten links to get yourself oriented. if you want, you can read the links and data in the other templates as well; alternately, if you don't wish to use them, that's totally okay, and you can delete them from your talk page if you wish to do so.

I hope that's helpful. feel free to let me know any questions, or if I can help. thanks!! --Sm8900 (talk) 17:08, 12 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Wow, thanks @Sm8900:! I feel very welcomed :D

It's going to take me awhile to work thru these, in parallel to other, analog tasks. But it's nice to have such pointers because I know the questions will inevitably be forming. I'll ping you!

New help page

Hi kit! hope all's going well. guess what, I just gave you your very own copy of a major help page.

you can view it at this address: user:kitblake/help.

basically, adding a slash after your user page name allows you to create enw pages, as sub-pages of your own user page!! you can do this any time. in this case, I created a new page at the address above, then copied and pasted all of the code from the page Help:introduction into that page.

so now you have your very own copy of that page. there is no actual functional difference between the original page, and the copy here, of course. I simply copied the page over, just to illustrate to you some of the myriad things that can be done here at wikipedia, simply by utilizing your own user space, and copying over the code from particularly useful pages. I hope that is helpful. feel free to be in touch.

by the way, if you want, I can also put collapsible boxes around the different help messages that I posted above on your talk page. by doing so, this would enable you to either view the information, or hide it any time you want, just for greater convenience. I may do that a little later, but I wanted to proceed one item at a time. I hope that's helpful. feel free to be in touch. thanks!! --Sm8900 (talk) 01:20, 13 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Kitblake. Welcome to Wikipedia and thank you for your contributions!

I'm Sm8900, one of the other editors here, and I hope you decide to stay and help contribute to this amazing repository of knowledge.

Some pages of helpful information to get you started:
  Introduction to Wikipedia
  The five pillars of Wikipedia
  Editing tutorial
  How to edit a page
  Simplified Manual of Style
  The basics of Wikicode
  How to develop an article
  How to create an article
  Help pages
  What Wikipedia is not
Some common sense Dos and Don'ts:
  Do be bold
  Do assume good faith
  Do be civil
  Do keep cool!
Do maintain a neutral point of view
  Don't spam
  Don't infringe copyright
Don't edit where you have a conflict of interest
  Don't commit vandalism
  Don't get blocked
If you need further help, you can:
  Ask a question
or you can:
  Get help at the Teahouse
or even:
Ask an experienced editor to "adopt" you

Alternatively, leave me a message at my talk page or type {{helpme}} here on your talk page and someone will try to help.

There are many ways you can contribute to Wikipedia. Here are a few ideas:
  Fight vandalism
Be a WikiFairy or a WikiGnome
  Help contribute to articles
  Perform maintenance tasks

Become a member of a project that interests you
  Help design new templates
Subscribe and contribute to The Signpost
Translate articles from Wikipedias in other languages

To get some practice editing you can use a sandbox. You can create your own personal sandbox for use any time. It's perfect for working on bigger projects. Then for easy access in the future, you can put {{My sandbox}} on your userpage.

Please remember to:

  • Always sign your posts on talk pages. You can do this either by clicking on the button on the edit toolbar or by typing four tildes ~~~~ at the end of your post. This will automatically insert your signature, a link to your talk page, and a timestamp.
  • Leave descriptive edit summaries for your edits. Doing so helps other editors understand what changes you have made and why you made them.
