Hello. Before making potentially controversial edits, such as those you made to Mel Gibson, it is recommended that you discuss them first on the article's talk page. Also, make sure to use an informative edit summary for such edits. Otherwise, people might consider your edits to be vandalism. Thank you. --Jaysweet 16:46, 5 August 2006 (UTC)
Hello there Kingstowngalway! Please note that we are currently discussing whether the quotes that you blanked should be included. If you would like to participate in the discussion, please come to the talk page, but do not unilaterally change the quotes without making your opinion known. Mel Gibson citations
[edit]Thanks for the citations. Next time you add one, please put the citation between <ref>..</ref> tags. That way the system will turn it into a proper footnote.
For example: <ref>Mel Gibson; Living Dangerously, Page 8, by Wensley Clarkson</ref>

Thanks again.
Fwend 22:52, 24 August 2006 (UTC)
- I see that you've been trying to get the footnotes in. I'm afraid you haven't yet quite got it right. Please look carefully at the example I gave: you don't need the curly braces {{..}}, only the ref tags: open: <ref>and closing:</ref>. Thanks Fwend 23:57, 24 August 2006 (UTC)
Do you have a source for the assertion that he had a reputation as a "deranged psychopath"? I've no difficulty in noting that he was a notorious torturer, but this is laying it on too heavy.--Shtove 10:41, 4 September 2006 (UTC)
Indigenous Australian bushrangers
[edit]- I am not sure if Yagan is correctly categorised in Category:Indigenous Australian Bushrangers. Bushranger has some commotations that I don't think sit well with a warrior resisting European settlement. Not sure how the definition excludes him, but just starting to open up the discussion. Mary Ann Bugg or Musquito (bushranger) are correctly classified in my view, but I don't think it is a correct categorisation for Midgegooroo, Tullamareena or Jandamarra either.--Golden Wattle talk 00:58, 8 September 2006 (UTC)
Your request for citation

Salvado
[edit]Nice work creating this page. For some reason the catholic categories needed the term 'roman catholic'. I am not sure why, but I'll bet there was some heated debate on that terminology. It seems to be a rather anglocentric pov, but I know little about these things. Red links are like red rags to some bullish editors, they indicate a non-existent page. I think one or two are a good idea if I find something that ought to exist (imho). Red linked user pages tend to attract attention from critics, you should consider editing you own, even a single character makes it blue. Keep reading the help pages and creating needed articles, this one had been listed for creation at WP:WA. Regards - Fred 09:33, 19 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit]Hi Kingstowngalway.... I just wanted to let you know that I have added {{fact}} request for your updates concerning Paul Touvier being arrested at an SSPX priory. While I have no doubt that this did occur, this is the type of information that can be controversial if not backed up by a citation. The Wind That Shakes the Barley
[edit]Your recent edits to The Wind That Shakes the Barley seem very politically tilted toward Teddy's favor and toward an indictment of Damien, despite the fact that Damien is a more prominent character, that the film is very sympathetic toward Damien even as the situation is complex, and that more of the characters in the film stand with Damien than Teddy. Damien's death seems to be more Teddy's tragedy than the man killed! In my opinion think you need to strive for a more NPOV tone in your edits, both politically and in from the perspective of interpreting a work of fiction. I don't have time right now to address your edits, but perhaps you can give your tone some more consideration on this. [I am going to copy this comment to the film's talk page.] Thanks, Melty girl 21:35, 18 October 2007 (UTC)

Honestly why did you create this category? I mean you include people who were assasinated abroad Assasination might be a crime (though these fellows had it coming!) yet its not exactly a form of repression. You include people like Isaac Babel and Lev Kopelev who were not even Ukrainian, and Symon Petliura who was assasinated by a Jewish nationalist (not exactly something the USSR endorsed). Most of all there is already a category Victims of Soviet repressions which at length lists them all. While this one picks random people out of there, with no defined guideline. --Kuban Cossack 10:12, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

Unsure
[edit]I'm not sure why you are removing Category:Executed Irish people from articles about Irish people who were executed. It is not redundant to Category:People executed by the Kingdom of Ireland or Category:People executed by the Republic of Ireland or another subcategory of Category:People executed by Ireland since not all people executed by Ireland were Irish. One is for nationality of the executed person; the other is for the jurisdiction of the authority that executes. Also, the Kingdom of Ireland ceased to exist in 1801 when the island became part of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, so someone couldn't be executed by the Kingdom of Ireland in 1803 or 1916. And the Irish Free State became the Republic of Ireland in 1937. I think you changed some of these dates without explanation on the categories. Good Ol’factory (talk) 01:48, 6 August 2008 (UTC)

[edit]Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Category:Austrian victims of Soviet repressions, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Category:Austrian victims of Soviet repressions has been empty for at least four days, and its only content has been links to parent categories. Former Old Believers
[edit]Hello. I'm curious what evidence you have that Mihail Moruzov and Serghei Covaliov abandoned the Old Believer faith. - Biruitorul Talk 15:22, 26 December 2008 (UTC)
I regretfully must admit that I do not have any rock hard evidence for either case. However, I doubt that Serghei Covaliov would have been allowed onto a Communist-era Olympic Team if he had remained religiously observant. As for Moruzov, my decision was based on an erroneous belief that he was a Communist-era Romanian intelligence chief. If you wish to remove my category edition, I will defer to your judgment. Kingstowngalway (talk) 23:02, 26 December 2008 (UTC)
Truth be told, I don't have any evidence that either man was an Old Believer. Still, let's work through this. Moruzov's father was a priest, so he was certainly raised in the faith. Did he continue to profess it afterwards? Probably (ruthless spy that he was) none too actively, but neither do I know of his having renounced it. (It would help to know details of his funeral.) For Covaliov: probably baptized (small, highly conservative society held together by a distinct faith). Under Communism, practicing religion was usually OK for non-Party members (and even for some of them) provided it was reasonably discreet. (Though the head of the Orthodox Church was also a member of Parliament, interestingly...) Plus, he's had 36 years since his Olympic performance and 19 years since the fall of Communism to resume practicing the faith, in case he ever stopped.
Of course, 90% of this is informed guesswork (ie, original research), but there you go. - Biruitorul Talk 06:33, 27 December 2008 (UTC)

I'm perplexed by your addition of this article to the category "Anti-Catholic publications". Could you explain your thinking? Jd2718 (talk) 01:04, 1 March 2009 (UTC)
Isaac Babel's writings contain many vicious attacks against Eastern and Latin Rite Catholicism. In the "Red Cavalry" stories, he refers to the basement of a Catholic Church as being filled with women's underclothing and implies that all the women in Catholic parishes are sleeping with their parish priests. He also mockingly refers to his unit looting the rectory. In his "1920 Diary," he describes encountering a portrait of the Servant of God Andrei Sheptytsky and mocks his "aristocratic hands." In his letters from France during the 1930s, Babel referred to French parochial schools as suffering from "the plague of religious instruction." Unfortunately, none of this was unusual in the propaganda of the Soviet regime which Babel supported. Kingstowngalway (talk) 01:18, 1 March 2009 (UTC)
- You tagged Red Cavalry, not Isaac Babel. That leaves the basement scene (which story, please), and even if he implies what you say he does, and I see no source for that, that leaves open the question if Babel was generally hostile to religion, or to one religion in particular. I am removing the category link. If you have sources that support the idea that Red Cavalry is an anti-catholic work, please bring them to the article's talk page. Jd2718 (talk) 05:19, 1 March 2009 (UTC)
- Could you also please explain Taras Bulba? There is nothing in the article that points to such a characterization. Sparafucil (talk) 06:53, 14 June 2009 (UTC)
I notice that this category you created is unpopulated (empty). In other words, no Wikipedia pages belong to it. If it remains unpopulated for four days, it may be deleted without discussion, in accordance with Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion#C1. I'm notifying you in case you wish to (re-)populate it by adding [[Category:Czech victims of Soviet repressions]] to pages that belong in it.
I tagged the category. This will not, in itself, cause the category to be deleted. It serves to document (in the page history) that the category was empty at the time of tagging and also to alert other watchers that the category is in jeopardy. You are welcome to remove the tag if you wish. However, removing the tag will not prevent deletion of the category if it remains empty.
If you created the category in error, or it is no longer needed, you can speed up the deletion process by tagging it with {{db-author}}.

An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is Ron Gonen. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also Wikipedia:Notability and "What Wikipedia is not").
Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Ron Gonen. Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).
You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.

Thanks for your recent additions about the viral video to Jane Austen. However, the section you added it to is really a summary of Reception history of Jane Austen and Jane Austen in popular culture, so the information must first be added to those articles (if it is relevant) and then we have to decide if it necessitates mention in the main article. Reception history of Jane Austen is a featured article and uses only Austen scholarship, so it takes a long view on what is important to mention about Austen. Generally, we are waiting for something to be mentioned by scholars before we mention it in that article (the source you used was not a peer-reviewed, academic source). The video is too ephemeral at this point to merit mention in that article. Perhaps the video is more appropriate for Jane Austen in popular culture? You might want to consult with the editors who maintain that article. Thanks! Awadewit (talk) 19:54, 7 August 2010 (UTC)

The article Dáibhí de Barra has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- Needs reliable source citations to establish notability.
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. ConcernedVancouverite (talk) 03:57, 7 June 2011 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of András Kun
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on András Kun requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Gaspipe
[edit]Do you have it or are you working off Google Books?
I dunno, I'm kinda interested in making Anthony Casso a GA in the long-term. I've got Five Families and The Brotherhoods, and I'm thinking about some time getting Gangbusters.
One thing about Carlo I've read (I'm registered on an organized crime forum with this handle too) is that he tends to give his subjects the benefit of the doubt too often. I haven't read his books, but I did check the GB preview for "Sharpton" and got nothing. I'd say Gaspipe is still as much an RS as anything else - I'd just take Casso himself with a pinch of salt. --Lenin and McCarthy | (Complain here) 19:39, 4 September 2012 (UTC)
- I also didn't find anything when I looked for Casso supporting Kuklinski's accusations. I don't know if there's something that isn't included in the Google books preview of Gaspipe, but I'm removing it. --Lenin and McCarthy | (Complain here) 19:06, 8 September 2012 (UTC)

Freemason cats
[edit]You added Freemasons convicted of a crime cats to several biographies of people, none of whom were Freemasons. Just about the only one who fits the cat is Noye, who was expelled, so he's really not a Freemason either. You sourced one person's membership to a rumor in a book that a "Grand Lodge resurrected him" after he was dead, which is absolute nonsense. You also added a woman to the list, and Le Droit Humain is not Freemasonry as anyone understands it. Please do not add material that you cannot source or do not understand. Given the nature of the cat you created, I am not inclined and will not assume good faith with regards to your edits, because you've been on Wikipedia long enough to know better.
- "Le Droit Humain is not Freemasonry as anyone understands it". Le Droit Humain understands itself as Freemasonry, and the Catholic church will automatically excommunicate you for joining it under the provisions of its prohibitions on Freemasonry just as surely as they've excommunicated those who've joined Anglo-American lodges. So two rather important anyones seem to disagree. JASpencer (talk) 08:19, 20 July 2013 (UTC)

July 2013 ANI still open...
[edit]Hello. There is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. Thank you. MSJapan (talk) 18:08, 25 July 2013 (UTC)
- The only admin to comment on this said that MSJapan "misused" the ANI noticeboard. I think it's hard to disagree on that point (although MSJapan does seem to believe ANI exists so that he can treat people in a way he would greatly resent if the same thing was done against him). Also interesting to see that the usual tag team threw in the apron this time (I don't think Amit Kumar's a goat botherer). However there was no official closure, the issue was simply allowed to go to archive. This may mean that MSJapan could raise this particular one up again, but I suspect he knows that the most likely outcome is that he'll get thwacked by some admin for wasting time - particularly after John Carter's comments. Finally, congratulations for keeping cool on this one - MSJapan deliberately tries to goad people and then sits back when they explode. Turning the other cheek is the best thing in these situations. Still got a problem with police misconduct cats...
[edit]I still think you are miscategorizing all these supposed cases of police misconduct. The article on police misconduct does not mention murder. Use of deadly force is there, but that is different, and is not necessarily misconduct unless it is considered such. The definition of misconduct is vague, and can apply either on- or off-duty, depending on circumstances, but it does not appear to encompass all crimes. Therefore, I would like to know on what basis you are classifying murder as misconduct. MSJapan (talk) 20:53, 4 August 2013 (UTC) Murder is an illegal activity, as are other acts which I have categorized under police officers with criminal convictions: armed robbery, kidnapping, planting evidence, assault, and accepting bribes. Perhaps the definition of misconduct is too vague and should be renamed.Kingstowngalway (talk) 22:00, 4 August 2013 (UTC)
- I even asked the Law Enforcement WikiProject about this, and didn't get an answer. If the definition is problematic, maybe it would be better to classify those actions under what they really are, e.g., bribery under bribery, murder under murder, etc. If the definition is too broad (which it appears to be), it isn't really useful per WP:DEFINING. Jurgen Stroop
[edit]Just as a reminder, you reverted my edit which removed the "anti"-cats from this article. My reason for removing it was because there was only one quote from one instance supporting those cats. You indicated you were going to add more support for those positions, and I haven't seen anything new yet. MSJapan (talk) 16:01, 18 August 2013 (UTC)
- I suggest you re-read the article. I have added several other statements from Stroop's own lips in which he denounced Freemasonry and Christianity, especially Catholicism. See especially the section on the Dachau trial, during which Stroop complained that one of his defense attorneys was wearing. a Mason's ring. See also the section on his 1934 meeting with Bishop Clemens von Galen. Kingstowngalway (talk) 02:46, 19 August 2013 (UTC)
- Well, I have done so, and I'm still not convinced, because Stroop apparently liked the bishop and respected the Jews on the one hand, and then was against them on the other. Many of the statements made are decades apart in occurrence, and I'm not seeing the thread of consistency I would expect to make a solid ideological stand. I'll see if I can review Moczarski myself. MSJapan (talk) 21:07, 27 August 2013 (UTC)
- I would strongly rrecommend that you read Moczarski, which I have found every bit ads disturbing and riveting as a Hannibal Lecter movie or HBO's The Iceman Tapes. I will say, though, that one of the fascinating elements of Moczarski is what you find so perplexing. Stroop often did spew Nazi ideology to justify his crimes, only to later express respect for the very peop whom he had just called Untermenschen. To me, this reveals that Stroop still had a part of himself which remained human in spite of Nazi indoctrination and numerous acts of mass murder.Kingstowngalway (talk) 12:49, 19 September 2013 (UTC)

[edit]Hi, and thanks for your work on the English Wikipedia.
I noticed an article you worked on. Just a short note to point out that we don’t normally link:
- dates
- years
- commonly known geographical terms (including well-known country-names), and
- common terms you’d look up in a dictionary (unless significantly technical).
This even applies for infoboxes, too.
Thanks and my best wishes.

Copy/pasting
[edit]I am having to revert a fair few of your recent edits to the British war crimes article. You are adding stuff that is trivial in the context of a summary-style article and, worse, you are mostly copy/pasting content from other articles without even attributing it as such. Please could you familiarise yourself with WP:CWW. Thanks. - Sitush (talk) 06:01, 18 February 2015 (UTC)
- In fact, I now see that you have been doing this sort of thing for months. You are creating a lot of problems for others as a consequence. It may be that we will have to wind the article back to the state that it was in prior to your first edit there. - Sitush (talk) 06:08, 18 February 2015 (UTC)
- I have been adding source citations and have been rewording the textual additions. I will continue to do so. I agree with several of your removals of text and disagree with others. All the same, I would never expect or desire to dominate the writing of this article. If you have materaials to add, I look forward to seeing them.Kingstowngalway (talk) 04:10, 20 February 2015 (UTC)

The article Eilean Mo Chridhe has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Not notable
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. buidhe 21:03, 26 April 2019 (UTC)

Use of multiple accounts
[edit]Please clarify whether you are the same person as K1ngstowngalway1. Both accounts have edited to the same articles, including War poets and Joseph Pearce. It is not normally recommended to use multiple accounts, see WP:MULTIACCOUNT. If you do own both accounts then please indicate this on both user pages, possibly using {{User alternative account}}. If you are not the same person then you may want to ask the newer user to change their username, and if necessary discuss the situation at WP:RFCN. Verbcatcher (talk) 04:03, 16 November 2020 (UTC)
