So I don't know much about how bots are programmed, but current practice at CAT:UAA is to remove any account that has no edits or log entries for over seven days. Would it be possible for KingpinBot to take over this task? Right now it is done manually, and basically by myself only, which is quite time-consuming. I figure this could be automated, and it would be really appreciated. NTox · talk 21:58, 14 September 2012 (UTC)
- Let me know if I should contact Avicennasis about this as well. NTox · talk 22:00, 14 September 2012 (UTC)
- Firstly, sorry for taking so long to get back to you. AvicBot already removes accounts which have been in the category for a certain amount of time. I'm not convinced that removing users who have no actions over the past 7 days is something that should be automated. It could request in users who were only added to the category in the last few minutes being immediately removed. - Kingpin13 (talk) 15:37, 19 September 2012 (UTC)
- No worries about the wait. I didn't know AvicBot did that; thanks for mentioning it. It sounds like then this would be something to think about a tad further and send off to Avicennasis if it's something people would think is a good idea. And I should note that immediately removing the category from old accounts is something that is already done; empirically what I think you would find is virtually none of those accounts act again after the warning, if they're old. Anyway, I'll peruse on this slightly longer and talk to Avic if necessary. Perhaps the time might even be better changed from 7 days to something slightly longer. On a related note - I wonder: how often does KingpinBot check and remove blocked accounts from the category? I've noticed that they can sometimes be there for over 24 hours without being removed. - The bot tends to run every 24 hours, but on occasion it might miss a run for various reasons (e.g. if the computer is off). You can see how often it completes a run by looking at the history of User:KingpinBot/UWCOIreport. That page will also tell you if there was an error removing the category from certain pages, which would also explain why some accounts stay in the category for longer. Feel free to ask Avicennasis about the task, his bot is probably more suited to it anyway (KingpinBot removes accounts which have been actioned on, his bot removes accounts which are stale). - Kingpin13 (talk) 17:34, 19 September 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks, Kingpin. Honestly appreciate the help. NTox · talk 17:54, 19 September 2012 (UTC)
