Very nice Sharon, thank you! I've removed the multi-licencing thing for reasons of personal preference, but otherwise great! Thanks again and expect yet another token of thanks to be posted to your user page soon! --kingboyk23:33, 27 January 2006 (UTC)
That's ok, I love challenges! ;p Piece'o cake, my friend - I kept the same format as your user page, just let me know if you want the borders removed. And btw - I would have loved to see that scuba pic at your page (sob!) Well, I can always go to your website to see it (j/k) Enjoy Stevie! - Phædriel♥ tell me - 23:40, 27 January 2006 (UTC)
Give me about a week to cover the article appropriately. I keep finding subjective comments that were missed in previous edits. I also need to contact the biographer (Matovina) about some dates, as I know he keeps meticulous records on the subject. Thanks. ZincOrbie23:32, 27 January 2006 (UTC)
Yes, this looks much better since January 10. It still needs tightening, and I'd like to get some more dates and attributions in it, but I'll give it a rest for now. Thanks Kingboyk! Good job. ZincOrbie18:09, 3 February 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for the heads up, Stephen (and nice to meet you, too). Ron Griffiths and Mike Gibbins stated that McCartney played piano on those two Badfinger tracks. If memory serves, Tom Evans claimed as much, too. I'd say it is safe information, although not particularly pertinent (unless the reader is a Beatles fan). I'll leave it up to you whether or not to reinsert it. I am more concerned with some of the other new edits that confer undue significance to the band's post-Ham albums. Relative to the band's earlier albums and singles, these later efforts were neither critically nor commercially well received. In case you weren't aware, there are some fans of Joey Molland who have a tendency to hype the band's post-Ham history. They need to be counter-balanced.
Hi, you recently commented on bible-verse articles, and may therefore be interested in commenting about a proposed policy covering roughly 50 specific verses:
I'm the person who made those account names on speedy deletion. I have nothing to hide. I'm not previously banned or anything. I just want my old account's pages to be deleted because it contains some personal information. Well, not information that people can steal identity just want to be anonymous. Thanks. --J. Nguyen20:55, 28 January 2006 (UTC)
No need to apologise and thanks for not assuming I meant you do have anything to hide. I was just pointing out to the admin that with an account with history a thorough check should be done first. But try to settle on one ID, yeah? :) --kingboyk20:58, 28 January 2006 (UTC)
If an admin doesn't take care of it, I'll look through the page histories and remove my objection if there's nothing to hide. Gotta dash now though, sorry. --kingboyk21:27, 28 January 2006 (UTC)
I can't find anything personal in the history (nor anything controversial for that matter). I've blanked the pages and suggest you leave it at that, but if you request a speedy I'm not gonna interfere. --kingboyk01:18, 29 January 2006 (UTC)
Punk Rock
Just responding to your comments, Japan is generally considered on the tour circut for world-wide punk rock acts, None of them go to China or other asian countries. Also the punk rock scene here is huge and thriving, I'm not so sure about other countries.
Yeah, from what I gather it's arguably more thriving in Japan than anywhere else. I used to hear some of it on the John Peel show, good stuff. --kingboyk18:05, 29 January 2006 (UTC)
Let me think about it (the question, and the wider issue). The list is certainly adding to the record label sorting task. I'm not sure if it would pass AFD or not, though. --kingboyk02:23, 30 January 2006 (UTC)
I don't think you are banned, as you are able to edit my page! :) Sorry, I'm not an admin so I don't know. --kingboyk15:24, 1 February 2006 (UTC)
Hello there!
Hi Steve, believe it or not, my name actually is Vanky- albeit a long-standing nickname. I may have a go at rewriting the festival article at some point- looks like it was written by one of their publicity staff! Vanky17:51, 1 February 2006 (UTC)
Yes, I had my suspicions the moment I saw it. It seemed professionally written and very gushing. A quick Google search confirmed it. --kingboyk17:55, 1 February 2006 (UTC)
It was AFD, but qualified as Speedy A8 because it was copy/paste from their site, the uploader had an edit window open, resaved it, and reworked it. --Admrb♉ltz (T | C) 05:40, 2 February 2006 (UTC)
OK. I'm keeping an eye on it, it's better but I'm not sure he isn't here just to plug that company. I'm assuming good faith for now. --kingboyk05:43, 2 February 2006 (UTC)
I removed your speedy deletion tag from this redirect. It will be deleted when/if the main article is deleted. Miscapitalization does not qualify as an "unlikely typo." Regards, howcheng {chat}07:35, 2 February 2006 (UTC)
Hi. Thanks for your work on these articles, but can I suggest you read through some of the discussions in a bit more detail before making changes. For example, the matters you raised about Rose Island have already been resolved a long time ago. --Centauri23:04, 3 February 2006 (UTC)
I've replied on the Talk page there. I don't see they've been resolved. We have a list of stamps (proves nothing) and an article in Italian. I shall back off, however, as I have no desire to get involved in a war over trivial matters. --kingboyk23:14, 3 February 2006 (UTC)
Blimey, am I going to be on some hitlist now? Is it safe for me to go out? I don't understand the big deal. If these entities are as notable as some are claiming, they will survive AFD. I'm working to rid Wikipedia of what I see as cruft articles on non-notable things, so please can people tone down the agression and the incivility. I expect some people to disagree with me, and if the AFD fails I'll accept it and move on. It would be nice if others could take the same approach. --kingboyk07:09, 4 February 2006 (UTC)
It would be nice if you respected other people's years of hard work and long, patient discussions on topics that are considered controversial by some, in the same way you obviously expect others to respect you - before whacking articles all over the place with the AFD ugly stick. There are many of us who consider Linux and related geek articles little more than irrelevant overblown "cruft" too, but we don't go around telling people their opinions are rubbish. --Centauri07:42, 4 February 2006 (UTC)
Apology accepted. In turn I apologise for making unfounded bad faith accusations against you. I'm way too tired and cranky today to interact properly with other humans. More so than usual, :-) --Centauri03:14, 5 February 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for lending a hand around the Britop articles. I've been trying to improve the standard recently but there's a lot to do and it's an uphill battle sometimes. As far as Robbie Williams goes, I'd say he'd be best left out. He may have drawn from Britpop but he wasn't part of the movement at all really. I'd go as far as removing Theaudience, Babybird, The Charlatans, Elbow, Embrace, Feeder, Franz Ferdinand... and that's just as far as F. --Sachabrunel17:08, 4 February 2006 (UTC)
lol. It really is hard to categorise these sub-genres isn't it. I don't fully accept what you say about Williams. I understand where you're coming from (I think) and we shall leave it unsaid (I probably agree with you). I feel that he rode that wave and tagged onto the movement. I didn't buy it myself, but lots of people did. I won't revert. Thanks for the message and no doubt we'll see each other around! --kingboyk18:18, 4 February 2006 (UTC)
Removing references
Just so you know there have been new developments at my talk page. I think it would be best if you did not remove references from articles that are undergoing AfD, even if you think they're spurious. It just looks dodgy. Better to comment in the AfD itself or the article talk page. That's my view anyway. I don't know how many you removed, I only searched a little way back. Suggest you comment there but did want you to be aware... Happy editing! ++Lar: t/c02:02, 5 February 2006 (UTC)
OK. Only that one edit. I didn't think of the AFD consequences and you are quite right. I'll revert if you haven't. --kingboyk02:06, 5 February 2006 (UTC)
Good deal, thanks (saw this on your posts to my talk.... one of my beefs with WP is how talk gets splattered all over everywhere... no more here from me) ++Lar: t/c02:52, 5 February 2006 (UTC)
Yep, the software is a bit primitive in some ways. Having been exposed to the inner workings of the code, it's undoubtedly because they've had to put so much effort into scalability. It's a wonder it works so well, really, given Wikipedia's explosive growth! --kingboyk02:55, 5 February 2006 (UTC)
Hey Sweetie pie! I just saw your reply to my comment at the DfA talk page - now that was a true flattery! ;) Anyway, I'm extremely new here, and I wouldn't even dare to dream about actually attempting to go for adminship as I am. Who knows, maybe eventually, but I'm far more concerned about cooperating with the community without a mop right now. With admins as great as you, who needs me anyway? Besides, I'm too busy being a cop in RL to also become one online! ;) j/k
Sweets, I also took note of your request for help with the new table you insterted at your userpage. It beats me too (geez!) since I'm not entirely familiar with Wikicode tables. Unfortunately, I must leave for a few hours, but as soon as I return, I'll have a go at it. I'll rewrite it to HTML if I have to, so relax - help is coming ;) Kisses! Sharon ♥ tell me - 04:11, 5 February 2006 (UTC) PS. It's the first time I get a message from someone I'm writing to in the meantime! ;) *hugglz*
I'm not an admin sweetheart, but thanks anyway, you're flattering me now (blush). Oh btw: I'm not intimidated by the uniform unless you plan to arrest me! Well, anyway, I hope you have a fun time out/an enjoyable day at work/insert as applicable. Stay safe!
Thanks for the offer of help by the way, if it comes down to HTML code I should of course be able to do it myself - it's just that, whilst I can write PHP and design programs, as soon as I get to CSS or design my mind goes blank! --kingboyk04:31, 5 February 2006 (UTC)
Hello Kingboyk, I saw on your user page that you are importing the XML dumps and generating link tables... I'm taking it you are using something like the link analysis scripts? I'm not surprised it takes a very long time to do, thats getting outside the realm of things that SQL is good at. I'm a perl programmer myself, not sure what kind you are, but I wrote a Perl module that can parse the entire XML dump file in about 4 hours on my 800 mhz iMac (see Computer help desk/ParseMediaWikiDump. Using a little custom code I build my own indexes in memory using Perl and I can do cleanup operations in just a couple hours. Would you be interested in something like that? I'm sure we can find a way, using an intermediate format, to convert the XML into something that can be easily parsed by what ever language you prefer if you don't know or like Perl. Please leave a message on my talk page if you would like more info, I'd be glad to help make your life easier when it comes to cleanup projects. =) Triddle09:07, 5 February 2006 (UTC)
You'd get my vote. If you ever feel like running and you have another admin to nominate you, give me a shout! You are one of those users that I mistakenly thought was "an admin already" :) --kingboyk22:04, 5 February 2006 (UTC)
What I did was revert to your previous version and add in some of the information that the anonymous user included (while correcting his misspellings). Feel free to add more back in if you think it helps the article! Steve Casburn04:37, 6 February 2006 (UTC)
Well how do you like that?! The article hasn't been touched in 5 days and then wham we both edit it at the same time! Crazy :-) I'm happy with your version as all I did was wikify/copyedit what was there. --kingboyk04:41, 6 February 2006 (UTC)
Re-creation
The new version isn't an exact copy of the old. The old one seems a little better written to me, with maybe more info:
Katherine Horton (born 1979(?)) was a British student at Reading University who was raped and murdered on 1 January 2006 on the holiday island of Koh Samui, off the East coast of Thailand. She had been spending the New Year period abroad with her companion, Ruth Adams, before returning to complete their final year of studies toward a degree in psychology.
Horton was talking to her mother in Cardiff on her mobile phone before her conversation was cut short. Her mother reported hearing a dog bark and a scream before being cut off. Her body was found by a tourist and a jet-ski operator on a secluded beach less than twelve hours after she was killed. A post mortem examination revealed she had been beaten about the head and arms with a blunt instrument before being dragged along the beach, and was still alive when she was drowned in the shallow water. Thai police also suspect that she was sexually assaulted at some point during the attack.
Thanks for giving me the text. What do you suggest? Can I speedy it? And if I find such cases in the future what do I do with them? --kingboyk05:21, 6 February 2006 (UTC)
Let It Was
...or whatever the past tense of "let it be" is.
As per your request, "Let It Be" has been moved to "Let It Be (album)", and the original slot is now available to be made into a disambiguation. DS
If you could help out properly formatting the links in the table on the micronations category discussion page I'd appreciate it. I'm trying to include a link to each AFD discussion for each micronation, and I'm not sure how to do that where there have been multiple AFDs for 1 micro. I copied the current format from another discussion and have tried to rework it, but I'm no expert, as you can tell. Thanks. --Gene_poole21:40, 6 February 2006 (UTC)
Many thanks for your help. I'm trying to add [1] as "1st nomination" but it doesn't seem to want to work - can't see what I'm doing wrong. --Gene_poole23:33, 6 February 2006 (UTC)
To be honest, I'm not sure how to do that other than for external links or footnotes. I think it looks fine at is, but if you don't agree I guess you could use external links for the debates which have closed. It's preferable to use internal links where possible, and near mandatory for active AFD discussions so that interested parties can keep on eye on where voters are coming from and what's being said. Since we can't find a technical solution I think it's ok to use the http: form for the completed AFDs only - or ask someone else who is even geekier than I am! :-) (they do exist, in small numbers) --kingboyk23:40, 6 February 2006 (UTC)
ROIO, IMDB, etc
Thanks for the kind words about my Dylan site; they're certainly appreciated. As for the IMDB issue in the "Surf's Up" AFD, while IMDB allows users to submit information, it's run through a vetting process before it's allowed on the site. See [2] for some details. I'm acquainted with several people with nontrivial listings there, and even a registered/verified professional user isn't allowed to add material without some scrutiny. Frank Alexander
Nils Gessinger plays jazz (www.nilsgessinger.de). He is a very notable musician in Germany, also in São Paulo, Brazil where I live. I'm into jazz therefore I've heard of him. You suggested it's a lie by saying: "Comment Same editor has created entries for this guy's parents, who also seem to be of questionable notability: Nils Gessinger and Susan Caldwell. --kingboyk 22:28, 5 February 2006 (UTC)"
http://www.rottentomatoes.com/p/frank_alexander/ is exactly the same person. Sometimes he is credited as Alex Caldwell (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm2091444/). I'm entirely sure he isn't that notable, because IMDB has written nothing about him. He is Ashton Kutcher's friend (www.ashton-kutcher.net). I know this site isn't a reputable source. It was created by fans of the actor. Ashton Kutcher also mentioned him on Making The Band (2001) (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0236907/).
I do understand your point. He doesn't fall into the criteria of notability. But I also feel you people should check more pages on google before posting things like that. Apparently you took a look on the first page.
Finally. Well, I got that TalkPage link through the Orkut community "Wikipedia fooled Alex G" (he is also known as that).
Thoughtfully, Márcio201.1.1.6206:30, 10 February 2006 (UTC)
Hi Steve, thanks for your support in my RFA, which succeeded. If I can ever improve or help in any way, please let me know! :) —Quarl(talk)2006-02-16 11:54Z
The Beatles
Hi Kingboyk - if you're thinking of getting a group of editors together to work on a list of unreleased Beatles songs, let me know - I'd be willing to help (if you look at the afd saves on my user page, you'll see "I'll Get You" and "Matchbox (song)" there, so that should give you some indication of my musical interests :). I'd suggest that if the list is done it should be for any songs not officially released, so that it would include songs released in bootleg form. Grutness...wha?00:25, 3 March 2006 (UTC)
There was me telling you to be bold, and I now discover you are a veteran with a stonking - and frankly quite riduculous - 61,235 edits!! How on earth do you find time to work and write a book? I think I need to have a serious talk with you about time management, something I'm quite abysmal at! --kingboyk19:21, 3 March 2006 (UTC)
a lot of them are tiny edits - you rack up huge numbers of edits when you're a stub-sorter. As to the book, I haven't really started work on it seriously yet - just sounding out artists and writing an intro - since (believe it or not) I'm waiting until after an art exhibition I've got coming up in a couple of weeks! As for time management, I only work part-time, it's probably more a case of not having a life :) Grutness...wha?00:58, 4 March 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for the message, and yes, I think that would be a good idea. If we could find all the stubby and badly maintained articles and consolidate them into something encyclopedic and of high quality it would be great. Can you suggest a suitable venue to take the discussion to?
Suzy Parker (Beatles Song) is a bit of an anomoly - apparently it was included in snippet form in the Let It Be film (I've never had the priveledge of seeing it). Therefore, it has arguably been released.
Sorry about the little run in on CFD but I couldn't quite follow the tangent you were taking - if you want to create a list of members you can just go ahead! :-) It doesn't - to my mind - have any bearing on which category the existing articles belong to. --kingboyk00:31, 3 March 2006 (UTC)
- Please feel free to add to or strike out from these lists!
I'll have a hunt and see what track names I can come up with from my Beatles-related books. I don't think "The Beatles bootlegs" would be the place for it, because some of the songs mentioned may never have ben released even in that form, or were shelved and only released bby one of the Beatles as solo works. "The Beatles unreleased songs" might be a better title (possibly with an apostrophe after the s). I agree that the items on Let it Be might be a problem (I've never seen it either), but perhaps the intro of the article could define exactly what goes on it, and those have never been officially released on record. Oh, and no problems with the CFD business :). Grutness...wha?07:27, 3 March 2006 (UTC)
The obvious approach - and it's kinda surprising there isn't one already* - is a Beatles Wikipedia:WikiProject. *I've not located one, anyway. I'm willing to sign up, although I don't want to commit to starting it because I have a large Todo list and more importantly once I've cleared that I ought to attend to some real work! What do you think? Shall we float the idea? --kingboyk15:44, 3 March 2006 (UTC)
Mkay maybe I'm overcommitting here but if a project gets set up I'd join, I love the Beatles and this would be a chance to learn more. I've never set one up though... don't want to commit to that level of effort unless no one else will, my todo list is too long! (I'd crib from how dear Phaedriel set up the NA one, though) ++Lar: t/c16:37, 3 March 2006 (UTC)
Sounds like an interesting project. I'm pretty over-stretched myself, but if a WP:Beatles gets up and running, I'd certainly add my name to it and do some towards it. Grutness...wha?00:15, 4 March 2006 (UTC)
