Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. Regarding your edit(s) to Collin Raye, it is recommended that you use the preview button before you save; this helps you find any errors you have made, and prevents clogging up recent changes and the page history. Thank you. Your last edit messed up the infobox, and garbled the entire article. Also, all the sources in the article say Collin was born in 1959, not 1960; if you can provide a reliable source that says he was born in 1960, then please add it. Welcome to Wikipedia. Everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia. If you are already familiar with Wikipedia:Citing sources please take this opportunity to add your original reference to the article. Thank you. Again, the sources in the article say he was born in 1959. If you can find a source that says 1960, then PLEASE ADD THE SOURCE! Your continued editing of the Collin Raye article to change his birth date is problematic, considering that the numerous sources used to create the article clearly state that his birth date was 1959, not 1960. If you have reliable sources that state otherwise, please present them on the article discussion page prior to making any further edits. Thank you. Tony Fox (arf!) 03:28, 1 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
One last warning: please don't make this change again without discussion on the article talk page. TenPoundHammer explains below why MySpace is not the greatest source, and suggests a route for you to take to clarify the sourcing. If you do make this edit again, you may be blocked from editing for edit-warring. Please discuss before making any more changes. Tony Fox (arf!) 04:19, 1 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Collin Raye

[edit]

Thanks for informing me of your source regarding Collin Raye's date of birth. However, MySpace doesn't meet our criteria for reliable sources (see WP:RS), and thus it can't be cited as a source in the article. The reliable sources cited in the article (e.g. the All Music Guide bio) all list 1959 as his date of birth; even if he truly was born in 1960, no reliable sources list 1960 as his date of birth. On Wikipedia, we go for what is verifiable (see WP:V), and so far, only 1959 can be verified in any reliable sources. If you can find a reliable, third-party source that says he was born in 1960, then there's always a possibility that the article could be amended to indicate that his year of birth is disputed. Collin Raye

[edit]

Again -- don't you realize that you're adding unsourced material to Wikipedia? Take a look at the following links, which all say 1959:

For the umpteenth time, if you can find a source that says 1960, then add it to the article. Wikipedia relies on verifiability, and so far, I count at least four good sources that all state 1959 as his date of birth. Your consistent addition of unsourced material can be considered a form of vandalism. Please stop or you will be blocked again. (I'm not an admin so I can't block you myself.) At this time, I have blocked your account from editing indefinitely, until such time as you indicate your understanding of the above message. I'm very sorry to undertake such a harsh method, but it seems nothing short of this will get through to you. If you agree to provide more reliable sourcing, or to use discussion pages to resolve disputes in the future, you may be unblocked by myself or another administrator. You can appeal this or otherwise get an admin's attention quickly by using the {{unblock}} template. – Luna Santin (talk) 13:15, 9 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
