Certainly?

[edit]

Certainly any editor who contributes regularly will at one point or another need the use of the flag.

Highly debatable. Lots of good editors get along fine without it. --AnonEMouse (squeak) 17:04, 21 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I meant in the since that if you are here long enough, no matter your focus of attention at some point it's likely that a user will run across nonsense, a vandal, or the desire to edit a protected page. I didn't mean that the user needs to be an admin. I mean that as a comfort level grows in editing a situation where the buttons would be helpful is inevitable. Some users won't even notice or care that the option is available, and a serious kudos to them. Teketalk 05:10, 22 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Expected duties

[edit]

Currently reads "They are also expected to delete copyright violations and privacy violations from the history logs on sight." Can admins do this? I thought the ability to delete specific revisions from the history log could only be exercised by those with WP:OVERSIGHT status. -- Satori Son 18:16, 22 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, it should read "visible history logs". I'm fixing that. Teketalk 19:02, 22 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

other abilities

[edit]

Copied by ··coelacan 03:38, 25 May 2007 (UTC) from Wikipedia talk:Requests for adminship:[reply]

You missed two admin powers; admins also have the ability to create user accounts even if the account name is similar to an existing one or they've already created 6 accounts that day; and admins cannot be autoblocked or affected by a block on their IP. (Neither of these comes up all that often for most adminship work, but WP:ACC work takes up quite a proportion of my log.) --ais523 11:29, 20 May 2007 (UTC)
Special:Unwatchedpages too? GDonato (talk) 16:10, 21 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Editprotected and move pages despite move protection (see WP:MOP). GDonato (talk) 16:15, 21 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Updated! Teketalk 05:45, 25 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I really don't see why it's neccesary to restrict Special:Unwatchedpages to administrators. It's just a list of pages nobody added to their watchlist. VoL†ro/\/Force 14:07, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Comments on abilities

[edit]

In The power of the tools you list rollback which is now available to non-admins. Also, the power to delete is supplemented by the power to view deleted pages and undelete pages. The ability to edit page histories and with it the power to perform full-history merges is an important and little discussed power as well.--Doug.(talk contribs) 04:42, 14 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I guess you mention these under the Additional and Optional Duties section. I guess I just see these as pretty important. Still the rollback part probably ought to be updated, Admins have it automatically, but from here on out most will have it long before becoming an admin.--Doug.(talk contribs) 04:46, 14 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Since even deleted edits are preserved under the GFDL - I don't believe this is technically correct. Deleted pages can be removed at any time by the developers. I don't believe there is any GFDL issue.--Doug.(talk contribs) 04:51, 14 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
