Macka Diamond
Birth nameCharmaine Munroe
OriginKingston, Jamaica
GenresDancehall
Occupation(s)DJ, Singer
Years active2003 – present

Macka Diamond is a female Jamaican dancehall artist.

Biography

[edit]

Macka Diamond also known as Charmaine Munroe, Lady Cham, Lady Mackerel, and the Money Goddess, was born in Kingston and raised in Portmore. She has been rocking dancehall charts recently with her musical talent and delivering a strong message to the world. She was influenced by her father, Phillip Munroe, a reggae producer, and was surrounded by music and made up her mind to become a female deejay in her childhood. Rather than using her father’s connection to get her foot in the door to be a singer, she decided to do it alone producing herself. She was influenced by female artists such as Mama Nancy, Lady Ann, Lady Junie and Lady G, who was big at that time. With Junie’s help, she could get the chance to record ‘Don Girl’. After a string of singles, including collaborations with Captain Barkey and Wickerman, she had finally outgrown her Lady Mackerel epithet, changing her name to Macka Diamond with her 2003 single ‘Tek Con’, a protest record to Vybz Kartel’s chauvinistic track ‘Tek Buddy’.

The album is released on September 11th, 2012 by RAW EDGE PRODUCTIONS/VPAL "Time" is going to be Bunny's 5th solo album and it contains 15 tracks. According to Bunny, "Time" is a mixture of lover's rock and social commentary. [1] The album title "Time" is came from Bunny's own belief which is, "if you don't have respect for time, you don't have respect for yourself'" [2]

"Land We Love", this song shows that Bunny’s tribute to his homeland Jamaica, its 50th year of independence. Not only reggae lovers, “It’s Time”, “Just Deny”, “We’ve Got The Formula” and “Settling Down”, these plaintive love songs in the album are attractive to soul aficionados as well. As he told Sunday Observer's interview, he took more than 3 years to produce "Time".[2]

Bunny Rugs has been nominated 10 times for the Grammy Awards as a member of Third World and received numerous awards, such as “New York City Ambassador Award” in November 2009, “United Nations Peace Medal”, and “Jamaica Music Industry Awards for Best Show Band” in 1992 and 1996.
