Notability of Tanegashima knife

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Tanegashima knife requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a real person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. If this is the first page that you have created, then you should read the guide to writing your first article.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. WLU (talk) 21:46, 28 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Please don't recreate deleted articles

[edit]

Please note that you should not re-create deleted articles. If you think the article should remain on wikipedia, note the reasons why the page was deleted at it's deletion debate (Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Tanegashima knife) and ensure that any page you create on the same topic addresses the concerns established in this debate. In this case, the page was deleted because it was not seen as notable, and reliable sources could not be found that supported notability. If you do wish to re-create a page, ensure that it demonstrates the page is notable (in particular, since this is a page about a product, notability guidelines for products and companies is a consideration). I suggest you create a sub-page, which is like a personal note pad to test and draft pages, and ask for an admin (like User:Sandstein or exeperienced user (like me) for their opinion on the notability in question as well as any formatting suggestions. Note that consistently re-creating the page after a deletion can result in page creation being blocked,in which case you will need to find an admin to create the page anyway. You may want to ask Sandstein on his talk page to userfy the current, or old page. He will move what content is/was there to a sub-page so you will not have to start all over again.

Another issue is that the page reads something like a coat rack, a page where the discussion is about something other than the page's name. In this case, the page is supposed to be about the knife, but it spends a lot of time discussing the island and its history. My suggestion is that the historical information would be better placed on Tanegashima rather than Tanegashima knife. Please feel free to ask me if you have any questions. Per the above section:

A tag has been placed on Tanegashima knife, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion debate, such as articles for deletion. If you can indicate how Tanegashima knife is different from the previously posted material, or if you can indicate why this article should not be deleted, I advise you to place the template {{hangon}} underneath the other template on the article, and also put a note on Talk:Tanegashima knife saying why this article should stay. An admin should check for such edits before deleting the article. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Please read our criteria for speedy deletion, particularly item 4 under General criteria. If you believe the original discussion was unjustified, please feel free to use deletion review, but do not continue to repost the article if it is deleted. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. We welcome your help in trying to improve Wikipedia, and we request you to follow these instructions. WLU (talk) 19:32, 7 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Tanegashima knife

[edit]

I'm sorry the page was deleted. If you want, you can add the information about the introduction of knives to Japan to a new section of the article on Tanegashima. Please let me know if you have any questions. Neier (talk) 00:41, 8 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
