I left some suggestions about the article there. However, while I said take out the equations, on second thought I was wrong about that. The introduction needs more context. The Franz-Keldysh effect article starts out "The Franz–Keldysh effect is a change in optical absorption by a semiconductor when an electric field is applied." which lets readers know what area of physics they are dealing with. The article is not perfect, but I guess it's good enough for now. If you are indeed Karl Boer, I thank you for your patience with Wikipedia! I can only hope to be so patient when I reach your age.
