[edit]Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did to Canoe. Wikipedia is not a collection of links, nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include, but are not limited to, links to personal websites, links to websites with which you are affiliated (whether as a link in article text, or a citation in an article), and links that attract visitors to a website or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam guideline for further explanations. Because Wikipedia uses the nofollow attribute value, its external links are disregarded by most search engines. If you feel the link should be added to the page, please discuss it on the associated talk page rather than re-adding it. Caution for reference spamming: the links lead to the web site of a boat builder, i.e. a commercial site, and are not needed as references, which makes it a clear case of reference spam. - Tom | Thomas.W talk 12:32, 12 March 2019 (UTC)
The change I made was an update to a long existing reference to an article that used to be hosted on another (my) website, in other words: it was already there for a long time before! No advertising or promotion here, just a reference to articles that explain in depth the claims made on this wiki page. Kanoniem (talk)
- It doesn't matter if it was there for a long time or not, it's still reference spam. - Tom | Thomas.W talk 13:22, 12 March 2019 (UTC)
- Why didn't you change it before then? Kanoniem (talk) 13:24, 12 March 2019 (UTC)
- Because I hadn't seen it before. It was your edit that drew my attention to the article. - Tom | Thomas.W talk 14:54, 12 March 2019 (UTC)
- So a reference to a book that you will have to buy to read it, is legitimate, but a link to a free and ad free web page is not? All in all I cannot see this as a clear case of reference spam, but as a rather random attack on someone who just updated a long existing reference. Not really motivatiing or encouraging to further contributes to Wikipedia :-( Kanoniem (talk) 16:23, 12 March 2019 (UTC)
- See WP:RS and WP:SPS. - Tom | Thomas.W talk 17:14, 12 March 2019 (UTC)
