[edit]

Information icon Hello, I'm Zackmann08. Thank you for your recent contributions to Farah Alibay. I noticed that when you added the image to the infobox, you added it as a thumbnail. In the future, please do not use thumbnails when adding images to an infobox (see WP:INFOBOXIMAGE). What does this mean? Well in the infobox, when you specify the image you wish to use, instead of doing it like this:

|image=[[File:SomeImage.jpg|thumb|Some image caption]]

Instead just supply the name of the image. So in this case you can simply do:

|image=SomeImage.jpg.

There will then be a separate parameter for the image caption such as |caption=Some image caption. Please note that this is a generic form message I am leaving on your page because you recently added a thumbnail to an infobox. The specific parameters for the image and caption may be different for the infobox you are using! Please consult the Template page for the infobox being used to see better documentation. Thanks! Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Margaret Abraham, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Marginal (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 09:31, 19 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I just wanted to let you know that I've removed the image you added to the aforementioned article. From my experience, fair use images should be used in only one article and I uploaded the release poster just for use in the film article. I might be wrong, so you might want to cross-check from another editor more certain about image-use on Wikipedia. Feel free to re-add if another editor agrees with your edit. Regards. ArbCom 2018 election voter message

[edit]

Hello, Kangarooth. Voting in the 2018 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 3 December. All users who registered an account before Sunday, 28 October 2018, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Thursday, 1 November 2018 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2018 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:42, 19 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Autopatrolled granted

[edit]

Hi Kangarooth, I just wanted to let you know that I have added the "autopatrolled" permission to your account, as you have created numerous, valid articles. This feature will have no effect on your editing, and is simply intended to reduce the workload on new page patrollers. For more information on the autopatrolled right, see Wikipedia:Autopatrolled. Feel free to leave me a message if you have any questions. Happy editing! œ 09:45, 21 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Kangarooth - always nice to meet another librarian, there are a lot of us around editing Wikipedia.

Thanks for creating Gertrude Paul. She was on my list of "articles to get around to writing some time". But I'd listed her as Gertrude Maretta Paul, the form of name in the YP article, and that was still a red link in my sandbox until I searched around today, found your Oct 2018 article, and created a redirect.

Please provide redirects (or cross-references as we'd call them) from other forms of the title of an article. It's particularly important for biographies, where middle names and initials, short forms, nicknames, all get used variably, and even more so for women where there's often a variety of surnames too. Redirects are cheap, and useful. At the very least, make one from every form used in any of your sources. I tend to add all plausible versions of the name. The full "Sunday" version of a name often turns out to have been used as a redlink in some existing article, like a list of award-winners, and it's really satisfying to go to the "What links here" page and discover that by creating redirects you've helped readers of other articles to get through to the article concerned. It also makes it less likely that some future editor will accidentally create a duplicate article (it happens).

Having created redirects, it's always worth checking the "What links here" because that version of a name will occasionally be a red link in the competitors in a 1952 tennis tournament or something (in which case I tend to rename the tennis player with a "(tennis)"). It's all good useful stuff.

Happy editing! PamD 13:19, 26 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Wow, I've had a look at your list of article creations and am much impressed! What a great collection on a wide range of topics. Congratulations! I've had a look at a few and created some redirects, also moved Winifred Arnott to Winifred Dawson as it seems the name she's most often known by (moving creates a redirect from the old name). If you mention an alternative name in the lead, please give a redirect from it - as for Goofus Bird and also Daisy Bindi. I might look at a few more later, but lunchtime calls. PamD 13:50, 26 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I reckon the bird should be at Goofus bird so have moved it - but all the redirects which are now "double redirects" will be cleaned up by a "bot" so they all go straight to the new title. I added a hatnote at Goofus too (possibly it needs to be a dab page now with several uses...). PamD 15:16, 26 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
And have now made that dab page! PamD 15:36, 26 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
And have now created lots more redirects to your articles - I hovered my mouse over each title you'd created, and if it showed another name I went in and created redirect(s). The very last one led to a little triumph: there's a link to Meg Stacey from Modern Records Centre, University of Warwick. You told us she was known as "Meg" but didn't provide that link.
There are also lists, for most surnames, of people with the surname. I tend not to remember to add people to them, but I suppose for academics in particular it can be very useful if there's a reference to "the earlier work by Bloggs" in a paper without a proper reference (because "everyone knows" that Bloggs was pioneer in the field ...?), so might be useful to add these women to their surname pages. I did one or two of them - you can see my contributions list to see how I've spent the day. Must now get on with the MOOC course I'm doing about Lancaster Castle before husband gets home from a meeting and wants his turn on the shared computer to start writing up the minutes. Such is retired life, with Wikipedia featuring as a fascinating time-sink! PamD 18:22, 26 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Notice

The article Emma Yhnell has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Seems to be an early career scientist, too soon for passing WP:ACADEMIC yet. The awards listed appear to be junior level. H-index of only 5 in GoogleScholar.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Women in Red 8th Anniversary

[edit]
Women in Red 8th Anniversary
In July 2015 around 15.5% of the English Wikipedia's biographies were about women. As of July 2023, 19.61% of the English Wikipedia's biographies are about women. That's a lot of biographies created in the effort to close the gender gap. Happy 8th Anniversary! Join us for some virtual cake and add comments or memories and please keep on editing to close the gap!
