Hello, Kamik97, and welcome to Wikipedia! My name is Ian and I work with Wiki Education; I help support students who are editing as part of a class assignment.

I hope you enjoy editing here. If you haven't already done so, please check out the student training library, which introduces you to editing and Wikipedia's core principles. You may also want to check out the Teahouse, a community of Wikipedia editors dedicated to helping new users. Below are some resources to help you get started editing.

Review comments on Lake Namakagon page updates

[edit]

The revision to this page has greatly expanded the content including new sections with detailed information and several new graphics and images. Detailed below are a few suggestions for issues to address that would improve the contributions.

  • A few of the terms used are somewhat discipline specific and may benefit from additional definition or linking to other pages with details on these topics: drainage hydrologic lake typic, eutrophic, fragmentation, tubercles, trophic state index, mesotrophic
  • Some facts and details should be supported with specific sources or additional context about the claims being made for clarity and/or to maintain a neutral point of view:
  1. data presented on physical aspects
  2. context for the claim that it is a "thriving" fishery
  3. statement that Namekagon trail is 'great for beginners' (according to what standard?)
  4. Claim about ways to control and prevent invasive species (Sentence beginning "some of the ways to..")
  5. Statement about environmental concerns that "need to be addressed" (who or what group identified these issues as problematic?)
  6. Statement about preventing woody cover - is it a lake association that has this desire?
  7. Statement that Namakagon lake's watershed "needs to have" strong management (in management practices section)
  8. In herbicides section, a source should be provided for where "APIS mentions that..."
  • There are several grammatical/style issues/typos:
  1. Consider removing the geographic coordinates from the physical aspects section because they are already provided in the infobox
  2. The section title "Living, Biological, and Wildlife" sounds redundant. Is there a more concise phrasing that could be used?
  3. Remove 'is' from second sentence of recreation section? ('campgrounds is usually have')
  4. Run-on sentence beginning 'Water activities..."
  5. In invasive species section, weland should be wetland?
  6. Change is to are in sentence "Some of the ways to control"
  7. Change affect to effect in 2nd sentence of herbicides section
  8. The list of fish species in the recreation section is redundant with the list provided in the earlier section above; consider removing from one of these locations
  9. In herbicides section, Amry should be Army
  10. Transparency should be capitalized 2nd to last sentence of the water quality section
  11. replace spawing with spawning in erosion section
  • Consider revising sections written in first or second person ("where you can", "our environment") to third person to be more consistent with the rest of the article and neutral point of view.
  • Some of the information added (e.g. about water quality or how secchi depth is measured) is very informative but may be more appropriate for topical pages and linked to, since they are not specific to this lake in particular. This applies to details in the water quality section about Secchi disk calculations and the nice graphic that was added, as well as the images added for the snail and vegetation species in the Photo Gallery section.
  • The trophic status of the lake is described somewhat inconsistently between the 4th section and the water quality section (eutrophic vs mesotrophic to eutrophic). Consider clarifying this point e.g. by adding more details to the figure showing the trophic state index time series.
