Elect the Best Financed, Least Offensive Person For the Job (aka Oregon COTW)

Hello fellow WikiProject Oregon folks, it’s time for another COTW. But first, just remember that those other guys only want to raise your taxes, but I won’t. A big thank you to those who helped make improvements to Bridges on US 101 and participating in The Semi-Annual Picture Drive. And unlike the other guys, I won’t ship your jobs overseas! This week, we have Mr. Bipartisan Wayne Morse who went from being a Republican to an Independent and finally to a Democrat. Then, let’s see if we can finish up creating articles for members of the Oregon House before their January inauguration. As always, click here to opt out of these messages, or click here to make a suggestion for a future COTW. I’m Aboutmovies, and I approve this message. Paid for the committee to elect Aboutmovies. User Talk Pages

I noticed you reverted User:Zac252145 when the user removed comments from User talk:Zac252145 with the edit summary (Reverted good faith edits by Zac252145; Please don't delete legitimate notices from your talk page.. (TW)). According to the talk page guidelines a user can remove warning from their talk page. The removal of a warning is taken as evidence that the warning has been read by the user. I removed the comments from his page again in accordance with his wishes. A new name 2008 (talk) 03:25, 11 November 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, I was apparently having a senior moment when doing that. Thanks for catching it and fixing. :) -Kgasso (talk) 03:30, 11 November 2008 (UTC)

I assure you, I'm not trying to vandalize the site in the slightest. I'm simply trying to put references in a page I'm trying to create like the other editor/user guy asked for. When I did, you freaked out on me and now I don't know what to do. Please don't misinterpret my inability to correctly create a site as vandalism. It's harder than it looks for laypeople. I'm going to wait til someone gets back to me before editing further as a sign of good faith. Nasfratu (talk) 22:43, 12 November 2008 (UTC)Nasfratu

Apologies; looking at the last change, it appeared to be a standard linkspam (just a large list of links). I've wiped the warning from your talk page. I'll add a {{talkback}} there pointing you to my post here. Thank you! -Kgasso (talk) 23:01, 12 November 2008 (UTC)

Hi there,

I just updated the page for On a Sensual Note with links and external verifiable sources. I hope that helps and that the page stays up this time. Please let me know if I did something wrong or if I need to correct anything. Thanks for your attention.

Harvest Time @ COTW

Greetings WikiProject Oregon folks, it’s time for another edition of the fabled COTW. Thank you to all who helped make improvements to Wayne Morse and creating some members of the Oregon House. This week, we have by request Upper Klamath Lake which think made the news lately with a salmon plan. Then, in honor of the end of the harvest time, we will go farming with Fort Stevens. There is a beautiful link farm in the article that is ripe for harvesting into citations. It should provide for a bountiful feast, or alternatively you can take your hoe to it and weed some out. As always, click here to opt out of these messages, or click here to make a suggestion for a future COTW. WARNING: COTW is not approved for children under 3 and may contain choking hazards for small children. DO NOT leave your child unattended with COTW. Aboutmovies (talk) 08:49, 22 November 2008 (UTC)

Template:Www.lucasmc.net

Hello. I did indeed delete the above template as spam. Good call. Just a note for future reference. When you tag a template page for deletion, do it inside of noinclude tags, for example: <noinclude{{db-g11}}</noinclude>. Otherwise, not only the template gets placed in the deletion category, but so does every article the template is transcluded in, and each article displays the giant pink deletion notification template wherever the template is located within the article. Cheers.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 12:26, 26 November 2008 (UTC)

Oh dang, I didn't even think about that. Thanks for the heads up and for nuking the spam. :) -Kgasso (talk) 18:04, 26 November 2008 (UTC)

Zero Down, Zero Interest at the Oregon COTW

Hello to all the WikiProject Oregon folks, time once again for yet another bone chilling edition of the Collaboration Of The Week. I thank yee who helped make improvements to Fort Stevens and Upper Klamath Lake. For this first week of December, we have by request Mike Bellotti and his archrival Mike Riley, both in honor of that great tradition we call the Civil War (AKA the battle for the platypus). As always, click here to opt out of these messages, or click here to make a suggestion for a future COTW. This message is intended for the addressee shown. User:209.237.227.133

Regarding your message to this user, I think citing WP:USER isn't quite accurate, since the user was replacing the content with nonsense, as well as reverting the templates; this wasn't about simply removing warnings. At any rate, it seems that this particular user has found an open proxy to use, since he's now editing from 65.255.184.10. Sigh. Mindmatrix 22:57, 7 December 2008 (UTC)

Hm, thought I saw something about the templates in WP:USER... I'll have to take another look later. Anyway, thanks for the info. My guess is an open proxy:
kgasso@blort:~$ host 65.255.184.10
10.184.255.65.in-addr.arpa domain name pointer proxy.cable-lynx.net.
Thanks. :) -Kgasso (talk) 23:03, 7 December 2008 (UTC)
And he's back again from 69.27.57.178. -Kgasso (talk) 23:05, 7 December 2008 (UTC)

ignorant

you do not attend King kekaulike, so you have no right to edit that page. You must really have no life and absolutly no sense of humor to realize a joke. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.95.105.199 (talk) 02:29, 9 December 2008 (UTC)

Hi,
Attending a school is not a requirement to edit its Wikipedia entry. Additionally, your "joke" was a public personal attack and doesn't belong on Wikipedia, especially in the article namespace.
Thanks, -Kgasso (talk) 02:38, 9 December 2008 (UTC)

You a bot or are you really that fast?

???

I'm using an anti-vandalism tool to review/revert. ;) -Kgasso (talk) 04:25, 9 December 2008 (UTC)

The change that I made was accurate.

Stop editing my changes since you know nothing about the field, moron. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 199.76.164.195 (talk) 15:16, 9 December 2008 (UTC)

I'm not sure what you're trying to accomplish, but labeling a field as a dying discipline is a pretty major point-of-view problems. Since you seem to disagree, please at least use a meaningful edit summary in the future and/or discuss it on the article's talk page. Thanks. -Kgasso (talk) 19:56, 9 December 2008 (UTC)
Hello! I'm sorry I thought you were one of the mods who revert changes without reading them. You seem to be sensible. What I meant was that medicinal chemistry is quickly becoming outdated because of the shape that drug-discovery is taking since the 1990's.
I will re-edit the article and fully explain. Sorry again —Preceding unsigned comment added by 199.76.172.175 (talk) 20:32, 9 December 2008 (UTC)
It's alright! I'm glad to see that you really do want to make a constructive edit. If there's anything I can do to help, please let me know. Thanks! -Kgasso (talk) 20:58, 9 December 2008 (UTC)

Elf revert

Are you serious? Elf?

You've twice reverted my report of vandalism to http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Films_considered_the_greatest_ever

Do you really think that Will Ferrell movie from 2003 deserves its prestigious spot on the 1958 Brussels World fair list of important cinema? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.168.196.23 (talk) 01:16, 9 December 2008

Then discuss it on the talk page (regarding removal of it), or prove it's obvious vandalism and nuke it -- just please don't add meta-commentary about it to the article itself. FYI, I only reverted one of your edits, another editor handled your other one. Thanks. -Kgasso (talk) 08:22, 9 December 2008 (UTC)
The arrow to the year proved it was vandalism. I didn't want to nuke the whole table. I didn't want the error to stand for viewers to laugh at for months to come. But I don't really care if the crappy article gets fixed or not. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.168.196.23 (talk) 01:29, 9 December 2008
Hey there, I fixed the issue (diff) -- thanks for pointing it out. What happened in this case was someone else's vandalism (that you found) slipped through the cracks when it originally happened, and when commentary is added to the article itself, it's almost always vandalistic in nature. Thank you for trying to fix the issue, and please note that I didn't mean to make you feel unwelcome by reverting your change; however, in the future, please just remember to not add commentary to the article itself (that's what the talk pages are for). Also, if you need a hand with editing in the future, please feel free to ask. Sorry again about the confusion. Have a good day! -Kgasso (talk) 09:06, 9 December 2008 (UTC)
Well put. But I think you and the other vandalism bots are too aggressive in reverting pages. I understand that you want to win the award for reverting vandalism in less than 6 seconds--that's an admirable goal, and I trust it will help Wikipedia's image immensely. I'm truly impressed with the new vandalism tools. Perhaps not as impressed as you are, though.
I think you're forgetting: *the* primary beauty of Wikipedia is that "anyone can edit". Not just "official" editors. Little incremental edits add up. But not if they are automatically reverted--there's a host of people like you who have gotten hold of the new vandalism tools, and so any small edit that's not carefully documented is now likely to be reverted. Several grammatical mistakes I've fixed have been instantly reverted by overzealous Wiki-police such as yourself. This is a big obstacle for recruiting new contributors. I expect this trend is irreversible, and it deflates my interest in Wikipedia.
Regarding your dicta on how to edit: Perhaps I should have put the comment in the discussion page in this case. I was randomly surfing, and had no idea whether that page was popular. I've left suggestions on the discussion page of less popular pages that have stood untouched for months. Editing the article itself gets more attention. But not if the vandalism bots are reverting the edits without considering them. The only reason you fixed this page is because I went through the extra effort of writing to you here on your personal page. If I hadn't, the article would still have Elf as the 5th best movie of all time. When there's an obvious mistake the "meta commentary" is certainly preferable to viewers seeing the naked error.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.168.196.23 (talk) 13:15, 9 December 2008
Agreed, regarding the primary beauty of Wikipedia - if someone sees something that's wrong or needs improvement, I think that it's great how they can fix it on the spot with very little standing in their way.
FYI, I'm not a bot - I actually manually reviewed your edit and reverted - unfortunately, the context of the edit (in this case, the table's label explaining that it was from 1958) is not shown in the 'diff' due to that particular page's layout. It's true that I probably would have never noticed the issue if you didn't message me. Thank you for doing this, and sorry for the misunderstanding (it was an honest mistake). Again, if you have any questions, please feel free to send me a message. Thanks again! -Kgasso (talk) 20:56, 9 December 2008 (UTC)
FYI: I don't think you're a bot; that was a joke.

Sam Walker Edit

How was the changes to sam walker vandalism if it is true there can be more than one sam walkers. Every thing I said was true and I didn't say anthything bad in it, so it doesn't even affect anyone. Tehman321 (talk) 08:38, 11 December 2008 (UTC)

Hi,
In this case, the changes weren't related to the article subject (identified at the beginning of the article), but a different person, so it made the article inaccurate. If you want to add information about another "Sam Walker", you should probably create a new page and someone can help you move the current page to a better name - something like "Sam Walker (football coach)". Please note that if you create a new page, the subject needs to meet notability requirements for Wikipedia. Also, since it appears your edit was done in good faith, I'll remove the warning from your talk page. If you need any help, please let me know. Thanks! -Kgasso (talk) 08:43, 11 December 2008 (UTC)

Attacking Other Users

I feel that deleting another's work is just as much of an attack as anything else. You're just one of them. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 134.121.124.138 (talk) 08:41, 13 December 2008 (UTC)

What was deleted that you didn't agree with? Did the work meet Wikipedia's notability guidelines? You didn't include any of this in your message at User talk:Euryalus, just an ad hominem attack against that editor... -Kgasso (talk) 08:54, 13 December 2008 (UTC)
Look I could spend hours citing bad changes. I think what Wikipedia needs is a little human aspect. Otherwise, administrators can simply hide behind layers of law and order, and there's no way around anything done by them. There's always a reason to come up with why someone else's opinion isn't good enough, and there will always be ways of belittling users who aren't as "smart" or capable of writing. And what's the point of a user's talk page if we can talk about the user personally? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 134.121.124.138 (talk) 09:07, 13 December 2008 (UTC)
Agreed that there does need to be a human aspect, but I don't agree that administrators control everything - you have to remember that many valuable contributions to Wikipedia are done by anonymous (non-account-holding) editors. Unfortunately, many people think that everything and everyone they deal with daily is notable enough for a Wikipedia article, which isn't the case. However, properly cited, notable articles are a great contribution and should always be welcomed. If an editor/admin doesn't seem to "get" that, I agree that there's a major problem.
FYI, thank you for re-phrasing your question on his talk page. If you have any questions, I'll do my best to answer. Thanks. -Kgasso (talk) 09:18, 13 December 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for reverting the earlier edits on my talk page, and encouraging a rephrasing of the question. I've replied to it there but thought I'd pass on my appreciation for your removing of the personal attacks. Euryalus (talk) 19:00, 13 December 2008 (UTC)

Umm excuse me, but what i wrote about Tom Chilton was a known fact, and if anyone ever visits this page it will be because they want more info on his changing of game mechanics to benefit himself. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 121.215.157.96 (talk) 04:29, 16 December 2008 (UTC)

If this is indeed a fact, then you should be able to add references. However, stating that he's a "douche bag" isn't very factual (unless he can actually shape-shift into a personal hygiene product). -Kgasso (talk) 04:34, 16 December 2008 (UTC)

"Limp Bizkit" plural vs singular

Ah, thanks. A bit further in the introduction it was written using the plural verb, and I've seen this many times on Wikipedia. The second to last line of the intro says, "Limp Bizkit are currently working on new material with new guitarist Terry Balsamo and preparing for their comeback tour." Is this incorrect as well? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.179.153.93 (talk) 05:39, 16 December 2008 (UTC)

Yup, good catch! I went ahead and fixed that too. FYI, with proper names, since the name is in a singular form (no 's' on the end), "is" is usually used. Then, if you take a look at Black Eyed Peas, "are" is used due to its plural form. Isn't English great? ;) Thanks! -Kgasso (talk) 05:59, 16 December 2008 (UTC)

Very cold, must type about the Oregon COTW to stay warm

Hello again from WikiProject Oregon’s Collaboration of the Week HQ. Since there was no notice last time, thanks to those who helped improve Mike Riley and Mike Bellotti at the begging of the month and to those who helped create Oregon Department of Justice and Lindsay Applegate last week. Those last two were the red links with lots of links to them from other articles (DOJ was #1). For this week, in honor of Arctic Blast/Winter Storm/Damn its Freakin’ Cold Outside 2008/Storm of the Century/Is there ANYTHING else on going on in the world?/We Might Actually Have a White Christmas, we have Snow Bunny. Then as part of the Stub elimination drive, we have state senator Margaret Carter, which could easily be turned into a nice DYK entry once expanded 5X. As always, click here to opt out of these messages, or click here to make a suggestion for a future COTW. Have a Holly Jolly Christmas/Hanukah/ Kwanzaa/Winter Solstice.
