Question about the IPN

[edit]

I am picking on you because you were in the same case I was, but I think you paid more attention than I did to this part: how to evaluate IPN publications, particularly if they seem to be be out of print and also are not available online. Does it depend on the date of publication? Does it make the work someone more authoritative because the IPN no longer hosts it? Is it borderline unverifiable? (I read the memo about how verifiable does not necessarily mean easy to verify, but how far does this go if it is a lot of the references?)

If you don't know or don't want to comment, sorry to bother you, but you came to mind as someone that might know off the top of their head, so if you do have a comment I am interested. Thanks for any brainpower you apply to this problem Elinruby (talk) 08:11, 5 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  1. If the work is held in libraries (search worldcat) it is not unverifiable
  2. Yes, the IPN has gone through various periods of political influence, that particularly affect its more public-facing content. I would say that the more scholarly publications are probably a better source to cite as well as hopefully less affected by political bias.

I don't recall asking you, buidhe, nor is that what asked. Thanks anyway I guess. Elinruby (talk) 09:13, 8 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
sorry this squabble followed me here. Go ahead and disregard the question though; I'm just re-reading the decision for myself on second thought. Elinruby (talk) 06:23, 10 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
